“Best, Friendliest Gay Hotel Experience”
Reviewed June 30, 2012

The Mercurio was recommended to me by a friend who travels to Puerto Vallarta every year and who can afford the best hotels wherever he goes. He suggested this small, intimate, unbelievably inexpensive, insanely friendly, gay owned and operated oasis two blocks from the beach. Located on a quiet, beautiful street, it is still smack in the middle of everything one would want to do - whether you are gay or straight, a frequent visitor or a first timer to Puerto Vallarta.

The owner is an American with strong, liberal and progressive ties to the community, and he and the staff are not only friendly, enthusiastic and utterly charming, they are just simply adorable. I enjoyed the local, very generous complimentary breakfast every morning by the pool, and even though I don't drink, I met a number of locals and tourists at the pool bar in the afternoons and evenings.

The year before I stayed at he ultra-posh, majorly expensive Westin Resort, and of the two hotels, I heartily recommend the Hotel Mercurio for those men and women who wanted to be treated with courtesy and charm, and who are looking for that very special Mexican experience.

I will be back soon!

Room Tip: I stayed in a room on the second floor overlooking he pool. Not only did I have a clear view of the...

It was my 4th time in Puerto Vallarta and this time, I wanted to stay in a gay-friendly hotel. I booked Mercurio, based on the previous reviews from this website. I was hesitant at first, because I was going to be there for 15 nights, but what an amazing surprise!

I was welcomed with a great smile, friendly and professional staff. They speak perfect English and they made me feel at home! They are actually why my stay was so enjoyable!

I had booked a single room through Orbitz, but when I realized that Hotel Mercurio has some king bed rooms with kitchenette, Gabriel (the manager) offered me to upgrade for a special price. It was worth it: I was able to cook because there is a small portable range and a mini-refrigerator.

I travelled in low-season so the hotel wasn't busy but local people come around during "happy hour" from 3-6 (the drinks are 2 for 1). I met great people there: american expats and local gay/bi mexicans.

The guests are mostly masculine, half single gay men, half coupled. Although it is mostly a gay-oriented hotel and that it is clothing-optional, it does not feel like a bathouse or a non-serious place. There is no sexual activity tolerated in the pool or in public and guests respect that.

Be prepared though: you will see some kissing, some cuddling and cruising amongst guests. But everything is done with good taste, in a friendly-responsable manner.

The breakfast is AMAZING! It is a great compromise to an all-inclusive hotel: fresh fruit salad every day, always a selection of eggs and potatoe/vegetable. Bread, croissants, chocolatine, yogourt, cereals, coffee, tea and orange juice are also offered.

The rooms are basic but the beds are comfortable. The decoration is "antique old casa mexican" and could be updated. They have flat screen television, but no HD. Some american channels are offered but not all of them. They offer free wi-fi high speed internet and it works great! The air conditionner is powerfull and you have a remote-control to adjust it.

You can also buy soft-drink at reception and they offer a free phone to call Mexico, USA and Canada! That is a GREAT bonus!

The hotel is greatly located in the heart of the gay area of Puerto Vallarta. It's only 2 blocks from the pier and the sea, and about 5 minutes to the gay beach. You will also find a Subway restaurant 3 blocks away, if you need a "north american" meal :)

Overall, it's a friendly place, where you will find many new friends. It is great for single or couples. There is no attitude, and everyone is welcome: bears, men, women, older, younger.

Room Tip: If you want to save on restaurants, book a king-size bed room with a kitchenette!

Just returned from an eight day stay at Mercurio.
Thanks to the professionalism, friendliness and knowledge of the desk staff, especially Isaac and Joey, who invariably had the answers to all my questions and requests, my visit was very enjoyable. The location of the hotel (a short walk to Los Muertos Pier, which is where all the tours I took departed from) is within a 10 minute walk to nightlife, restaurants and banks (very useful for money exchange). While the rooms are not new, they are scrupulously cleaned, the bed very comfortable, lots of hot water in the shower, good internet connection and tons of free tv which I only turned on once. Each day as I left and each night, returning to the hotel, I felt like a most welcome guest staying with friends.

I just returned from a weeks trip to Puerta Vallarta, Mexico. The Hotel Mercurio is in a great location that is close to the beach, the Malecon, and the Old Town of the city. The hotel is safe, secure, and a fun place to stay. The staff is great. They are very helpful, attentive, and knowledgeable. Thanks to Alex, Isaac, Joey, Alfonso, Eduardo, Jorge, Jose Luis, Alma, Erasmo, Luis Manuel and Gabriel. I would definitely stay here the next time I visit PV.

We spent a great week in Mexico. The Hotel is centrally located in the Old Town section many nice restaurants and bars nearby. The entire staff was exceptionally friendly and accommodating. The rooms are a decent size and the staff works hard to keep the entire hotel clean but the rooms could use a bit of updating. However, for the price and the economy, we were satisfied overall. The guests are a nicely mixed age group and about half seemed like regular visitors. The beakfast was quite satisfying with a special Hot Mexican dish served daily, along with the usual morning fare. Will definitely stay here again!

I won a via gaycities.com trip to PV (my first time to PV) which included my hotel stay at the Mercurio. That this place was chosen as the hotel of choice became very apparent to me over my 6 day stay. Welcomed with friendly courteousness, rooms were spotlessly clean. Overall, it feels more like the feeling you get when staying at a bed and breakfast, awesome huge breakfast in the morning (I did not need to eat till dinner time). Awesome service at the pool bar during happy hour and rather cheap drinks, I might add. You get a LOT for what you pay for, and the wireless internet service is fast, and there are ample AC outlets in the room. Safe in the room too! Towels available for the beach with is a 5 min walk away. If you are used to 5-star accommodation, this place is NOT for you. But if all you care about is a clean, safe, friendly WELL run establishment, close to everything, then this IS the place for you. I definitely will be staying here again on my next trip. I believe from my traveling partner who has stayed here before, that there have been many improvements at the hotel, so it's nice to see that the owners are here to ensure WE have a good time, and not just them with our money.

Room Tip: The rooms away from the pool area are more private and quieter.
