“Lovely casa on the side of a mountain”
Reviewed March 14, 2011

Lovely, rambling hotel built up the side of a mountain. There are many stairs and interesting twists and turns to traverse. The room we had included a kitchen, queen bed, bathroom, and balcony. The room was clean. We enjoyed having coffee in the mornings and drinks in the evening on the balcony overlooking the city. The view was spectacular. Just a short walk to the Romantic Zone of PVR and many wonderful restaurants and night life. The pool was icy cold. Plenty of lounge chairs for enjoying the sun. Enjoyed free internet in our room. This is not a luxury hotel, but we thoroughly enjoyed it! The staff was friendly and wonderful!

I first discovered Casa Anita in December, 2010, and shall be returning often for it blends an old world charm with modern amenities. Perched on a hill with spectacular views of Puerto Vallarta, it's a leisurely stroll into town. Although there is no restaurant at Casa Anita, there are numerous and varied restaurants close by. The hotel does deliver beverages to your room. Rooms are spotlessly clean and a friendly staff attends to all your needs. One of its attractions is being in a quiet part of town. The hotel is owned and managed by a Canadian family which now resides in Puerto Vallarta.

we stayed at casa anita for 16 days in studio 17.javier and silvestre welcomed us with open arms and great help during our entire stay especially javier(thanx again). The room had a great view and was more the adequate in size for a couple. It had a king size bed,a small kitchenette which had an old gas stove that was in need of replacement and the kitchen utensils were under equiped(no matching silverware,no decent chefs knives,no dishrack,a moldy wood spoon and old cutting board that was roughand splintery)So we went out and bought those items at walmart fairly cheap, which we didnt mind ,but if you are offering a fully equipped kitchenette then it should be so and matching also. After all people stay in kitchenettes because they prefer cooking to eating out in restaurants. The chambermaids were friendly and prompt in their duties but could use alittle more attention to detail. The hotel itself is charming to look at,and as advertised has no elevator but is equipped with many stairs which we didn't mind the 104 steps from the highway to our room ,but not reccommended for older or out of shape people.Although if you are planning to come to Puerto Vallarta you should expect to walk and climb many hills and stairs unless you are planning to cab it everywhere because the city is built on hills and Casa Anita is about half way up the hill on the highway to Manzanillo.so if you are packing groceries it si quite the daily work out,but we enjoyed it daily.Watch out for traffic at night as this section of road is badly lit and has poor sidewalks.Overall Casa Anita ,besides being in a very busy and constantly noisy highway location,is an enjoyable and safe place to stay.we slept with our patio doors open often whenevre it wasnt as noisy from traffic.Door could use a screeen to keep bugs a odd iguana from coming in.The city itself is busy and very interesting to see, split in 2 ares Nuevo Vallarta, where the all inclusive hotels are,and Old Vallarta where we stayed,Of the 2 areas, old town is much more interesting and alive with activity.Lots of shops and restaurants, but if you're looking for MacDonalds then you best stay in New Town.It was our first time in Mexico and Puerto Vallarta and although interesting and sunny with many fun things do see and do,the citys biggest draw back is its lack of cleanliness.Garbage in the streets, though the sidewalks are washed clean every morning by the merchants,it all ends up in the streets and stays there to fester and ferment until the buses run over it or it blows into the sea.The smell of urine is around every corner and stray dogs are allowed to roam in the streets and defecate being left there to be stepped on.Smog and dust are also another proble,so for those with allergies not arecommended destination.Sadly, tourists seem to contribute to the garbage and filth in the streets more than the locals, especially in the downtown ares of Olas Altas and the Malecon. In closing lets just say that local merchants and civic government should implement a strict anti-litter program for the entire bay area and instill some pride in their people, starting from the cradle to the grave.Unlike the television adds that proclaim"MEXICO,The Place You Thought You Knew!" it is not what everyone makes it out to be,but with a little polish could be a shining pearl.

Casa Anita was a great place for all our friends and family to stay for our Anniversary Party. The rooms were ideally suited to different families staying together, and the penthouse became our daily gathering place, with a perfect kitchen and patio for entertaining. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the prices made it possible for so many people to join us in Puerto Vallarta. Thank you to Sonia and her staff for a great stay!

We really enjoyed our stay. It was a good bit of exercise getting to the room, but once inside, apartment was very spacious and clean. Great view of the ocean - saw lots of whales jumping - an added bonus. The staff, including Javier, was so helpful.

I stayed in suite A15 for two weeks and loved this place. Sure, there are lots of stairs to climb but the website clearly identifies this.( The website also mentions the traffic noise which is no different than any busy street but use earplugs if you must. It did not bother me.) I looked on these daily climbs as a good cardio workout. I sometimes did those stairs 3 times a day( not bad for a 64 year old who does not exercise regularly). The staff are amazingly helpful and nice people. This is not the Ritz , it is a wonderfully Mexican style accomodation - spotlessly clean, very well cared for and excellent value for money. If you want a place with all the bells and whistles such as bar restaurant etc then go someplace else. If you want a place that is charming, different, affordable with million dollar views of Banderas Bay then Casa Anita/ Corona del Mar is for you. My only warning is be prepared for a little too much closeness on the small balconies. For the most part these balconies are not private and some are quite open. Thank you Sonia and your staff. I will return next year for sure
