This was my first time to PV. I found the area beautiful and lush despite it's lack of beach. The rooms at the resort are spacious and well kept. Do not bother to upgrade as it is not worth the money. We upgraded and other that a higher room did not see much difference in service. The bottle of wine and tequila promised did not show up until the last day after we demanded a refund since we asked for it everyday. I found the front desk and concierge unhelpful to resolve issues, I have been to many resorts in many different countries and never had as much difficulty communicating as I did at Barcelo. On the fourth day after eating at the spanish restaurant the night before 6 out of 8 people in our party were violently ill for hours and it lingered for days. The resort was notified and was not helpful or concerned. I would have hoped for at least a call the next day. We heard people complaining of the same illness two days later. The food overall was decent for an all-inclusive. We did an excursion from the beach which was fishing/snorkling, we had a great time on the boat. We did a dinner at the huts down the way and it was not worth the money or what was promised (not resort issue). There is no night club which is a downfall and although the entertainment crew is very hard working can sometimes be annoying. Pools were nice and well kept. Overall I would return to PV but never will spend another dollar at a Barcelo property.

Room Tip: we heard tower two was quieter but it is two bedroom rooms. try to get as high as possible without p...

Just left on March 17th and cannot say enough good things about the resort and their staff. Great service and the food in the Spanish and Italian restaurants was exceptional. The rooms and the pool areas were kept exceptionally clean. Staff always looked like they enjoyed their jobs and were always helpful. Room 1209 had a great view and was very spacious. I do think the hotel should include internet with the rooms.

Just returned from this vacation on Saturday March 16th. The way the resort is set up everyone should get a some of an ocean view. We were on the 5 floor room 2517 and it was a great view..
The food was ok. There was always alot of it but pretty much the same everyday. You had to pay for internet but you couldn't get it in the room only on your balcony.Even the premium guests, even though it was free for them they couldn't get it either in the room. They are also suppose to give you some coupons too use at the Hotel and there is a $10 OFF internet but they don't give it too you until after you have already paid for it. In fact our travel rep got it for us. This resort is a family resort so if you are wanting quiet this wouldn't be the place. They have a children's pool but not alot of people use it. They seem to want to hang around the adult pool with there kids at the pool bar. Which was a little strange to me. You all know what comes out of people mouths when they have had a few. The resort should have strict rules about that. The rooms were very clean but need a little repair in the bathrooms. One of the things that really bothered us was that they would run out of glasses at the swim up bar they would hand wash them in a sink. Not sure how sanitary that is. The staff were AWESOME!! everyone was so friendly and helpful. They will get you anything you need. That was the best part of this resort. In previous reviews it was mentioned that if you want to stay longer then the check out time you had to pay. As long as you check out of your room and had a late arrival when you checked in you can keep your bracelet until bus comes to take you to the airport. As for us we checked in at 10:00 pm on March 8th and left the hotel at 4pm on March 15th. No extra charge for that. All in all it was a great vacation but not sure if I would return.

Room Tip: The higher the better the oceanview.

This is our second trip to Barceló in beautiful Puerto Vallarta. Two couples joined us for this trip and they thoroughly enjoyed their experience at this beautiful, all inclusive resort. We were upgraded to Room 2519, three floors down from where we stayed last year for nine days. Our housekeeper Cecelia Moreno always made sure our room was spotless and well equipped including some great towel sculptures on several days. The view of the small bay and surrounding area from our room was spectacular and most relaxing. We again enjoyed a daily breakfast buffet with everything one could imagine from pastries, fruit, waffles, french toast, eggs and omelets made to order by Martha, along with many yummy Mexican dishes. There are three "specialty" restaurants (make your reservations early on Sunday) which are Capri (Italian), Don Quixote (Spanish), and the outdoor Grill Los Arcos (Steak/Seafood). Grill Los Arcos is converted for luncheon and snacks at 11:30 AM and the main buffet also for lunch. The adult beverages are top-notch. The food service was always attentive and the food was always good. There are four pools to choose from with plenty of chaise lounges and umbrellas. There is good entertainment nightly in the theater area beginning at 9:00 PM and live music in the Cantina nightly. The grounds are beautifully manicured and all of the employees we encountered met you with a smile in addition to a friendly greeting. Special thanks to all the hard-working employees and fine folks at Barceló. Special shout-outs to Brenda Hernandez (Cantina), Leonardo (Cantina), Guillermo "William" (Cantina), Edrey (buffet/restaurants), Rene (buffet/restaurants), Giovanni (buffet), and Carlos (buffet/restaurants). Many thanks to Management Assistant Paola Martinez G. for all courtesies extended to us during our two-week visit.

Room Tip: Try to get a room in Tower 2 on an upper floor as they are quieter.

We stayed from the 5th of March to the 13th. The Property is very well maintained and the gardens are beautiful. The resort is very compact with three pools and two hot tubs, the one pool has the swim up bar. The staff were just great and were always helpful and friendly. The nightly entertainment was very good and worth taking the time to watch and participate. The ocean and beach is short but is quite stunning. We observed a couple of pods of Whales swim by during our stay. We also took one of the many available boats to snorkel at Los Arcos. This is an amazing experience. We paid 50 dollars an hour for two hours and this was more than enough time to snorkel and to take in some sights. There are several guides and boats available on the beach just off the resort. We went with Chui. He was great and pulled star fish and other creatures from the bottom for my girls to see while we snorkeled. I highly recommend going to Los Arcos which is a five minute boat ride from the resort.

The resort is next to the set for a movie filmed in the sixties called The Night of the Iguana and is credited with initiating the tourism boom in Vallarta. Much of the set remains and can be seen from the hotel and the walkway comes up close. Rent or buy the movie its well done and stars Richard Burton and Eva Gardner. The scenery in the movie shows what the site looked like before the hotel was constructed. Good fun!!!

Food was adequate in the buffet restaurant, breakfast is best. The reservation restaurants are really great as well as the Los Arcos Cafe by the beach during the day they serve a la carte burgers and sandwiches etc.

Town is about a twenty minute bus or taxi ride. Both are fine and a taxi is 8 pesos and a taxi with tip 150 pesos. Little or no difference in time between the taxi and the bus, I recommend the bus!

The only constructive comment I have for the hotel is to improve the Internet fee system. I paid for the Internet access and discovered that the first device that pairs with the server is the only one that will have access. If you want an additional device you pay again. This is the first time in all the traveling I have done (which is considerable) that I have encountered this type of restriction. If you pay for the Internet be sure to ask many questions to fully understand what you are purchasing. On the upside Internet is free all along the Malecon and many places in Puerto Vallarta including most of the other resorts.

Room Tip: All of the rooms face the ocean from what I could see. Higher would allow you to see the ocean and...

We added a three night stay at the Barcelo 'all inclusive' to accommodate our flight schedule. The hotel, grounds and location are very pretty. Our room was quite spacious with a living room area, plus a large bedroom with an additional seating area. Bathroom between the two rooms with a nice shower. Perfect set up for families as the living room area has a day bed with a trundle, and a sliding door. There is no mini bar in room, just a small fridge with 2 beers and pop. Room service is an additional charge for regular rooms.
The balcony had a nice view (think they all have an ocean view), the patio furniture was nice, but it was not private. A guest two rooms down could talk to me as the walls separating balconies are low.
Maid service was good, however it only happens once a day, so you won't have fresh towels in the morning unless you ask for extra. There is no turn down service, robes or slippers.
Pool wait service was quite sparse, I initially thought there was no service and you had to get your own.
Making dinner reservations is a chore. We were finally told they could squeeze in a table for four at 7 pm at Los Arcos. We were there for two hours and there were still many empty table around us. On our last day we were told the earliest we could get into the Spanish a la carte was 9:30. We showed up at 7 and the maitre de was able to find us a table, thank you. The Mexican coffee here is not quite the show we have had at other Mexican resorts.
It only took half an hour in our taxi back to the airport, however the locale is quite different from PV. You are right by the mountains in a lovely little bay. Staff for the most part were very pleasant, though our check in gal could use some customer service.
Would I stay again? Certainly not for a week, but if I got another Hotwire deal to accommodate our flight schedule I might consider it.
