“All We Could Want”
Reviewed September 11, 2013

Just finished spending a week here and loved every minute of it. The entire staff goes out of its way to sincerely make each guest feel important and that they personally care. The buffet is scumptious with all the diversity you could ask for. The menu changes every evening ; the Asian night was great - who would have thought. Great having a small refrigerator in the room. Maids kept it stocked with drinks and snacks. The resort has activities all day long and then at night they have entertainment. Yes, mostly the same people are performing every night, but we enjoyed that because we learned the personality of each performer which made it more fun. What they may have lacked in technical talent they more than made for with their energy and drive to put on the best possible show. Must compliment the beach hawkers... they were absolutely not pushy and not a bother - this removed our fear of actually looking at what they were offering. Kudos to Barceló. We will be staying at more Barceló Resorts in the future.

Room Tip: Any room towards the ocean end and away from the bar is best. We were on third floor, farthest from...

We were at the Barcelo Premium tower. The premium experience was great. The suite was clean and big enough for a comfortable stay. The staff is really friendly, always trying to support you to have a wonderful experience. The spa staff arranged a program for all the family, including the kids. Open areas and beach ver clean.

This would've been a solid 4 star resort if it wasn't for an incident that happened to us on the second day there. During an intimate session with my girlfriend, the phone rang. I picked up and said "Hello?" then the person hung up. This happened 5 times! After the 5th time someone tried to open our room door with a key card. We had to stop our intimate session and answer the person knocking at the door. To my surprise there was a staff from security by the name of A. Navarro. I will not mention his full name. He asked "Is your card reader broken?" I said "No it's not." He couldn't get in because I engaged the deadbolt. He then asked to check my phone, while my girlfriend was still naked in bed. As he was talking on the phone, I asked what he was doing. He raised his index finger to signify "Give me a minute." He was on the phone for approximately 60 seconds, hung up then apologized and walked out of the room. We called front desk to log a complaint. They said that they sent security to our room, 1311 instead of 1308. We asked who else has access to our room because that's not safe. He said he’ll disable all cards including security’s, to our room and send new cards up immediately. The cards never arrived. On our way to dinner which was 2 hours after the incident, we stopped at the front desk to pick up new key cards.

Food selection was minimal and quality was average for a buffet. The food is left under heat lamps so they dry out fast. The prime rib dinner was more of a hard and dry rib dinner. There were no slabs of prime rib steak.

The support staff is very courteous and friendly. The rooms are clean and decorated well. Tip the staff even though all inclusive packages said tip is already included. They do work hard for their tips.

There are several swimming pools. One for the partiers that has a bar and music. One for the folks that want to relax and one for the kids with a small water slide.

My friend and I were unhappy at the Melia so we took a taxi over to the Barcelo and bought a day pass. Within minutes of taking our first tequila shot we met so many friendly people from all over the world. The hotel was immaculate, the staff friendly, food excellent and we decided to check out of our hotel and came back to the Barcelo. Alejandro at the front desk helped us pick a Premium "family" room which consisted of an 8th floor suite with two rooms, overlooking Banderas Bay. After unloading the luggage we decided to get lunch. Riccardo immediately made us feel at home by making bird sounds and putting smiles on our faces for the first time since we arrived. Fresh pizza made in a brick oven, homemade guacamole made by our table, tequila shots and after lunch drinks. Look for Riccardo - he is the best!

Can't say enough about our room - my friends room was huge with a king bed and private bath and I chose the room with two single beds and a private bath with a big bathtub. Because we were premium guests, we had a room that we could go to at any time with a bar, food, expresso machine, free internet, and a TV. We started each morning with a triple expresso before going into the buffet. The buffet overlooked the bay, with ample seating next to huge glass windows. The staff was so very friendly, offering Mimosas or one of 12 fresh juices - loved the watermelon. Breakfast was omelets made to order, or several counters full of local mexican or breakfast foods. I already miss the waffles with seasoned apples and juice.

Our huge balcony was one room from the end. At night you could hear the ocean roar while sitting on the balcony. The room was clean, quiet, well-equipped, and excellently stated. Ample elevators and air conditioning available everywhere throughout the resort. There was an evening show which we never did and also a Cantina with live music each night. Pool games were really fun and a great way to meet new friends. Two beautiful pools with iguanas wandering the island in the middle. On the very last day we picked flowers and placed them on the rocks for the iguanas to eat...absolutely memorable. Ample shopping available at the resort with beautiful jewelry and other selections to bring home. My crema tequila made it home safely in by luggage - yeah!

Absolutely the best vacation in several years. If you're planning on Puerto Vallarta, you need to stay at the Barcelo!

Room Tip: Upgrade to a premium room to be closer to the ocean.

Very nice and well kept hotel. Great place to go as a couple or bring the kids. Mine said it was the best vacation ever. The staff is very friendly and the quality and variety of food was very good. The grounds and pools were impressive, especially the one with the pool bar. The rooms were spacious and the beds and bedding were top notch. I really don't have any complaints. I highly recommend.

Room Tip: Well if you can afford to upgrade to a suite, go for it. But all the rooms have a good view. Can'...

I stayed at what used to be la Jolla De Mismaloya many times in the 90's and early 2000's and I have to say since the Barcelo group bought the hotel and added it to their chain the hotel has declined from a one of a kind 5 star to a run of the mill 3 star. It's sad, it was so full of life. The hotels food is average, the service is average the beach has somehow shrunk to a thin strip between the hotel and the ocean where as it used to be fairly roomy. You could throw footballs around, play volley ball etc.
The location is still great though, out of the way, 30 minutes south of town

Room Tip: if u want sunsets get the rooms in tower 2 top 3 floors down at the beach end i.e 2716 plus u can k...
