“Can't beat the view!”
Reviewed January 13, 2013

I definitely recommend staying here over the areas in downtown Puerto Vallarta or Marina Vallarta. You're far away from the more "slummy" areas and are situated in your own personal cove! The beach is beautiful and you can jet-ski and participate in all sorts of boating activities. Food was pretty good-- the fish was my favorite. Drinks are strong and plentiful! The rooms were beautiful and perfect, they're huge with gorgeous white marble floors and blowing drapes. Also, 2 flats screens. Every room has a great balcony with a view of the pool and ocean (even if it doesn't say ocean view.)

Make sure to organize a car pickup from the airport with Esteban (concierge.) It's $70 total (per family) and includes RT to and from airport. We felt very safe and our driver was friendly.

The only thing that was a problem was the "resort credit." You may have signed been offered resort credit when you signed up, which is basically a book of useless coupons. Don't be fooled when it says "$550" of resort credit. No one at the hotel (staff) even knows what the coupons are for and they didn't let us use them. The gift shop wouldn't take them (even though it was a coupon for the gift shop) and room service gave us a hard time too. The staff needs to figure this out because it was very frustrating for us.

Room Tip: Even the standard garden view rooms were ocean view!

This was my 1st time to PV and a Barcelo resort. The location is far from the airport and the downtown area but gorgeous. The wait staff is wonderful and the pools are great (it would be nice to have an adult only area). The rooms are lovely, spacious and clean.
On the downside: if you get promotional coupons, don't expect anyone to help you understand how to use them. Book your restaurant reservations ASAP! They only open 1 a night unless the hotel is packed and you can't always get in which means you have to eat the dinner buffet- mediocre at best. Food was look warm and had been sitting for a while. The breakfast and lunch buffet are good w lots to choose from. And if you want nightlife, this hotel ain't it. Great live music in the cantina bar but no dancing or any activities for adults at night. That said, we had a great time and would return.

Room Tip: North tower gets more sun.

We went for a long weekend this past summer and it was great!! Nice rooms, the buffet and the snack bar were very good, the drinks were the best, the barman and waiters were really nice to everybody and were always very attentive, our glasses were never empty.
I have recommended this hotel to my friends and family.
We really loved and enjoyed our day.

We were there through the Christmas holidays and experienced illness, dirty rooms, even dirtier public bathrooms and rude staff in the premium lounge. When we checked in, we were informed that because we tried to "pass off" our 17 year old daughter as an infant, we would not be getting the 2 bedroom we had reserved. I showed the reservation information with our daughter's accurate birthdate and the clerk said I would have to take it up with our travel agent. (Travel agent later confirmed that they did in fact have the accurate birthdate). Her English was quite good when she was scolding me for trying to sneak in my child; later when I went back with some concerns, she really struggled to communicate. At any rate, we waited an hour while they prepared our room, got our key and found a dirty room, wet towels, bathrobes on the floor, unchanged linen, etc. I went back to the premium lounge and presto 15 minutes later, our room was ready. (fifteen minutes between guests? you can imagine how well cleaned the room was). At any rate, we went to the pool, which was quite lovely and proceeded to enjoy our day. By day five, our child was sick and vomiting, only to be followed by her hapless parents. It was a challenge to get clean sheets and towels to avoid sharing the bug our child had caught. People I talked to in the buffet (we could never get a reservation for the a la cartes before 830 at night despite being told that premium customers would get unlimited reservations) and they said many in the resort were falling ill. I am not surprised as the public washrooms on the resort were not really clean. The floors were clean and shiny but there was feces on the wall above the toilet paper roll in one stall that remained there during my entire stay. For the most part I returned to my room to use the washroom rather than risk the public washrooms. Any concerns we had were pretty much ignored. I went to the premium desk several times as we were supposed to receive a bottle of champagne and petit fours as well as upgraded amenities in our room. We didn't get anything the whole time we were there (don't pay for the upgrade-a HUGE rip off). All in all there were a lot of really great things about our trip to Puerto Vallarta and even a few things about the hotel (really loved the pool waiters and the band in the cantina), but they don't outweigh the low standards of cleaning and subsequent illness..

We had booked a premium room for ourselves and placed our adult children who were travelling with us in a standard room. We decided to treat them to the upgrade at 30.00 each for ten nights. The hotel took our money willingly, but gave them none of the upgraded services. The upgrades include premium alcohol, but only if you drink it in a windowless lounge, unlimited a la cartes, but only if you can get a reservation. The upgraded in room amenities didn't happen either. Don't fall for this gimmick! If I hadn't paid for the upgrade, I would have been more accepting of the average service in the buffet and at the front desk. At check in, we were sent to our room after an hours wait, only to find the room still un made up from the previous guests. The hygiene standards in the hotel are substandard, with the public washrooms being quite foul at times.. A virus seemed to be affecting a great deal of the travellers, including several members of our family. Typically, when these things happen, upgraded cleaning will help to mitigate this, but I saw no evidence of extra effort on the hotel's part. Last, a member of the hotel staff kept leering at our daughter and made repeated attempts to lure her to a nightclub, even going as far as finding out her room number from a young member of our group and calling her room. The locale is beautiful and the hotel has potential, but if I go back to PV, I will definitely give this resort a miss.

We are trying to detect what are causing all this, but I can assure is not our food and beverages due our Buffets and Specialty Restaurants food are liked by the majority of our guests so they let us know in the surveys we carry out in the resort.

I am very sorry since we didn´t meet your expectations and your comments will be taken very seriously as certainly they help us to improve and try to be better every day in our services.

Stayed there 11-18 dec 2012. Seven people travelled in our party and for the first night things were pretty nice, from there things got very bad. for the next 5 nights, five people in our party had food poisoning and had to get on anti-biotics. On one occasion the Dr advised we go to local hospital and asked if " We have a good medical ins coverage". The hotel manager got involved
when i asked for a refund for the nights that were spolied , he gave me a 4 night free stay for us too return. I would NEVER GO BACK i told him. He refused to pay me , as he had not been paid from Expedia for our trip. the food was a very poor quality from breakfast-lunch-dinner
I cannot understand people's mindset when they say "it is Mexico after all" im sorry but call me dumb.... i dont go on vacation to get ill
