“6 day wedding trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2011

We stayed at Barcelo 6/3-6/8 and had an amazing time! I went for my sister in-laws wedding at the hotel. We were there with a group of about 13 people. It was my wife, 14 month old daughter and I. It was a great setting for the wedding and the staff was awesome. I will break up the review in to categories.

Hotel Grounds:
We were immediately impressed upon arrival of all the beautiful palm trees and flowers that covered the entire hotel grounds. The general area of PV was in a dry season and looked a little dry, but the hotel showed no signs of that. The hotel was very well maintained and was very clean at all times.

Pool/Beach:
I prefer to hang out by the pool more than the beach, and this pool is great! There is a main pool with a waterfall and swim up bar, a side pool with waterfall, kiddy pool with a slide next to it and a rec pool for volleyball. Most people wake up and claim a poolside spot. We went to breakfast by 9:30 and always found a spot we were happy with. I hate to say anything bad about Barcelo because we had such a great stay, but if you are looking for a place with a big amazing beach, this may not be the place. Personally, it had everything I needed in a beach. The waves are crashing right behind the hotel creating a great ambiance and the view of the water is great. The sand is really more like an accumulation of a bunch of tiny pebbles. The more you get into the water, the bigger the rocks get. The water drops off within a few feet so it's probably not too safe for kids. The vendors on the beach are what you would expect, but if you say no, they don't harass you.

Food/Drink:
I was a little skeptical of an all inclusive hotel because of mixed reviews of other places. This was my first time at one, and I have to say it was well worth it. Breakfast has pretty much a full variety of food with an omelette bar, fruit, pastries etc. For lunch, you can eat in the same buffet with a wide variety or go to the snack bar that has great tacos al pastor and a menu with several choices. We had the rehearsal dinner at Don Quixote restaurant. Good food and a nice setting with someone playing piano inside. We also ate at the Italian restaurant one night. It was average Italian food. When the food was lacking, the service and ambiance made up for it. The drinks were always good and there was always someone close by asking you if you were ready for another.

Entertainment:
We went to the cantina on most nights which is really the only option. They do have some live performances but we didn't go to any. There is no club or anything like that. The pool closes at 10. So if your looking for somewhere to party the night away, this place pretty much closes down by 1. I was totally content with that being as we were drinking all day anyway.

We also went downtown one day to shop in the market and walk down the shoreline. I felt totally safe with it and felt fine walking around with my baby. Don't buy in to all the hype about it being dangerous. Maybe it is in other places, but not here.

Beautiful grounds, nice location, I like the fact it's about 20 minutes south of PV and not right in the busy town. Go check out the zoo about a mile up the road from the hotel-very worth it. Fed a giraffe and a hippo, saw all kinds of tigers, monkeys, etc. The Spanish restaurant and the steak seafood restaurant were great, didn't care too much for the Italian. Breakfast and lunch buffets were awesome. I agree about the entertainment, it really isn't too good. We only went to one show. Very amateurish. The spa was great, we had a top notch massage and I thought the prices were very reasonable. Overall this is an awesome resort and we would definitely come back again.

This is a beautiful, hacienda style property on a small bay in Mismaloya, just south of Puerto Vallarta. We had excellent service from the time we arrived from the airport until we checked out. Our room ( all are suites) was spacious and cool with a pleasant balcony that looked over the pool area and a partial view of the bay. All balconies have plantings of beautiful flowers. This is a slower season for the resort so we never had problems finding shady pool-side chairs. We enjoyed the buffet restaurant and appreciated the lovely supply of fresh fruits and vegetables as well as many choices of entrees for every meal. The 3 other restaurants on the property were also lovely, but we enjoyed those with outdoor seating, especially with tables overlooking the bay the most. Bartenders were attentive and friendly. There was an evening show every day, but the quality was poor-it would be great if the hotel could provide top quality evening/night club type entertainment a couple of time a week rather than poor quality shows every night. Also, we had problems with the in room hairdryer -- the staff replaced it 3 times, very promplty, but it took that long to get one that worked. The ice machine on two floors was broken as well--so a few maintenance problems. And, when the bar ran out of certain liquor on Friday it was not replaced for the weekend. These were very small problems compared to the overall satisfaction with the hotel. The grounds are beautiful with lush plantings and the little beach on the bay is charming. It appears to be a great place to bring children as there were many young families enjoying their stay.

We stayed here for spring break, 2011. My husband and three kids, ages 12, 10, 8 enjoyed our vacation here. The pools and the restaurants were terrific. The entertainment every day and night kept everyone busy. The buffet was everyone's main choice only because it was quick and everyone could get what they wanted. Our room was a 2 bed 2 bath, which was perfect for our size family. Everything was very clean and well kept. My daughter did a mini massage in the spa and loved it. Our only complaint is the beach. There basically isn't one. Don't plan your vacation here if you are beach people.

When we first pulled up at Barcelo on Mismaloya Beach in Puerto Vallarta, I was stunned! I could not believe how beautiful the grounds were. We were greeted by friendly staff (champagne in hand) who kept our bags in a safe place while we checked in.

The grounds were beautifully kept - lush flowers everywhere! Pools were a little on the cold side and full of children - if you are looking for quiet time you have to get to the pool fairly early in the morning.

Rooms were spacious, had a nice view, and were kept clean daily and mini fridge re-stocked as necessary, no complaints there at all. We stayed in a Junior Suite and loved it. Modern and up to date yet comfortable - and the view from the balcony was stunning! Lush mountains, poolside view, and ocean view all in one!

Staff at the buffet are friendly and prompt - just make sure you tip as they deserve it and will continue to treat you well throughout your stay. Food is decent, pretty much the same stuff at the a la cartes and the buffets, I prefer the buffet as there is lots of variety and it is in a beautiful location right along the beach. Beware of the guacamole! It's delicious - but it tends to sit out from first thing in the morning until later in the evening, and I got dreadfully sick one day and the guacamole seems to have been the culprit.

Attention Young People! If you are looking for a resort where you can get extremely drunk and be loud by the pools every day - this may not be the ideal location for you as there are children everywhere. Also, It's a bit of a far cab ride into town to enjoy the nightlife, just as another caution.

Last note - safety: This resort made me feel extremely safe and secure. The grounds are away from the town in a secluded beach area. When you leave for the day in a cab, they ask you where you are going and when you plan to return. Coming back into the hotel they check your wristbands at the gate to make sure you belong there. It really felt very safe!

All in all I loved this resort. I would stay at any Barcelo after my positive experience at this hotel. It tends to cost only slightly more than some of the other vacations that are available but trust me it is well worth it.

Not only is this hotel located in the picturesque village in the jungle on the beach, it's also family friendly and has amazing service. I would never expect anything less from a Barceló brand! When you are greeted with a flute of champaign at arrival - you know things will only get better!

Staff were amazing, food was delicious and abundant, beach was clean and well-maintained, amenities were plentiful for both a lazy traveller (pool and bars, bingo and music) and an activities seeker (kayaks and snorkling equipment free, scuba lessons and spear fishing)! Multiple options in the nearby village as well (tequila factory, zoo, "Predator" filming set - to name a few).

There is a place for kids of all ages as well with fussball table, ping-pong, and other fun stuff! Boats on the beach can take you snorkling to Los Arcos islands with amazing tropical fish schools, pelicans, and turtles to observe for about $30/person.

Rooms were cleaned every day not to say that chocolates were placed on pillows (haven't seen that done in ages).

We spend an awesome 7 days here and will definitely come back next time. We were hooked!

Thank you, Barceló, for an amazing time!

The hotel staffs were very friendly and welcoming and gave excellent services, foods were very diverse and wonderful, pools are fantastic for different ages. the place was very beautiful and clean, Bar and show has great musicians and dancers- Heaven on earth. If life in every corner of this planet is as beauty as life in this resort, there is no heaven needed.
