“Fell in love”
Reviewed March 27, 2005

Let me say this hotel was great. The service was magnificant. Let me start off my saying my boyfriend left one of his bags in the federal taxi and no longer being 5 minutes there we realized it. The wait staff there went through many phone calls to locate our bag and they found it for us. Never had we had so much help on something. Our room was ALWAYS cleaned and beds were turned down at 7ish. Maybe I was staying at a fifferent hotel than all teh other people but when we were there March 12-17 we never had a hard time finding chairs at the pool or the beach and we went to the pool at different times each day. As to the noise, I hardly even noticed it when we were there, I think we heard it finally the day before we left but it wasn't anythign to bad. Besides its your vacation why look at the negatives aspects. The hotel can't help someone is building next door to them, give them a break. The food was good but I recommend going to the Marina area and eat there. The SeaFare was our FAVORITE restaurant. Great food, service, and strong margaritas. The best seafood soup I have ever had. The pool was very nice and the water was always a nice tempature even on the not so sunny days. This hotel was in a great walking distance to the marina, and if you wanted to go to the Malecon (highly recommended) its only 50 pesos. My boyfriend worked out at the gym twice and he liked it. He said it wasn't to big or to small, just enough to get him to wake up and get ready for the day. For all the sports lovers Champions is a great place watch a game and relax. get to know Eduardo (the bartender) he is extremly friendly and loves learning english and new slang words. The hotel it self was very nice and you really felt like you were on a tropical island on vacation because you feel the outside breeze throughout the hotel. I would with out a doubt stay here again!!!! 5 stars!

Upon booking our first trip to Puerto Vallarta we discovered some negative reviews while browsing the TripAdvisor web site. We do not know what the previous travelers were looking for on their vacations, but all we can say is "this is a very nice resort" and we would definitely consider coming back here at some point in the future!
First of all - this is not a "filthy" resort as described in a previous review. We found our accomodations, the restaurants, pool areas and the entire property all very clean and well kept up. Secondly, yes there is construction next door and you should probably consider asking for a room away from the construction (especially if you plan on sleeping past 9:00 AM), but the construction had little or no impact on our trip. Our pool and waterfront front time was not impacted by the construction at all (in our opinion this subject is way overrated!).
We ate at every one of the restaurants at the resort and we felt they were all worth the price. The service extended at all of the restaurants was outstanding and helped to make our trip memorable. Champions Sports Bar has great burgers, La Estancia offers great fine dining and has a nightly buffet. The Deli Los Mangos is great way to start your day with a coffee and a breakfast pastry. The Lobby Bar is a great way to end your day with a "night cap", but beware as there is a lot of cigar smoking at this location in the Resort. The entire resort staff is very helpful and accomodating. Our room was made promptly everday and I would encourage you to contact guest services and let them know the time you want your room cleaned by each day. You'll be very surprised at the service you recieve!
Special things to consider:
1.) Try to get your lounge chair(s) by the pool area as early in the day as possible. Also, you need to go to the "swim-up bar at least once!
2.) If you desire, arrange for a massage by the waterfront (very peaceful and relaxing).
3.) Beware of the numerous timeshare "hawks" when visiting the marina area. Just say "NO" and they will leave you alone.
4.) At the Marina area, Porto Bello Restaurant (left when arriving at the Marina area) and Victors (right when arriving at the Marina area) are very good.
5.) The downtown area was safe and worth the trip. Daiquiri Dick's is worth a stop!
6.) Bring cash as not every place takes credit cards. In addition, someplaces give extra discounts for cash vs. charge cards.
Have a good time!!!

Can't say enough about the great experience at this hotel. Staff very attentive. Beautiful grounds and very clean rooms. Bed very comfortable with six big fluffy pillows. Check in was very easy and fast. Pool was awsome. Staff at pool and beach area great. Definately would recommend and return.

This Marriott is designed to maximize the feeling of natural beauty. The horizontal, open air design of the ground floor lobby and hallways combined with the beautiful flowers and fauna and the lovely water lily strewn water ways stocked with multi colored fish and the outdoor restaurants make for a very inviting and appealing feeling.

The staff was very friendly and followed-up on every request that we made to be certain that the staff did what they said they would do. The concierge could not find anyone to get something for me so she closed the desk and went to get it herself.

There is construction going on at 3 of eventually 5 condo buildings so it behooves you to request a room away from the construction although, during the daytime at the pool, the loud guests were more annoying than the construction noise. Which brings me to one negative, the number of group meetings held there and the participants tend to get very rowdy and disturb other gets when the meetings let out.

The food at the main restaurant was pretty good and the prices were in-line with the restaurants in town.

The only other thing that might be considered a negative is the drive into town. On a Friday night it took us almost 40 min. to get to town and a normal drive takes from 20-30 mins. If you want to spend a lot of time in town, it may be an inconvenient location.

Stayed here February 12th-14th, 2005. Most of the reviews are accurate from the standpoint that chairs do go fast and there is very little you can do about it. Seriously, who wants to get up early on vacation? My vacation dates were not peak time (hotel not nearly sold out) and while I had no problems getting a chair there were few left by 11am. Pool was large, nice, and had a great pool bar.

The hotel is close to the marina which provides a relaxing walk and plenty of restaurants and bars. Food outside the hotel and major tourist stops in town was reasonable. Taxies to town ran $5 USD both ways and took approximately 15-20 minutes but was an easy ride.. No negotiating, no meter. It was a system and everyone knew it. From the airport, I got a taxie for $10, it was organized and stands right there. Hotel was 5 minutes from the airport. On the return trip to the airport, the “system” cab outside the hotel was only $5. At the airport they have you and can charge the $10.

Downtown was crowded but lots of shops and restaurants and a nice boardwalk. I felt safe 100% of the time. Lots of timeshare sellers. Do youself a favor. Just say “thanks but no thanks.”

I visited several other “top” hotels and truly believe that this hotel was the best of the bunch. As usual, it pays to eat out of the hotel. Breakfast was outstanding even though it was $17.50. I had lunch once at the hotel and a hamburger and two beers ran $17.

Without a doubt, this is an outstanding hotel just be aware that chairs can be hard to come by I think you may find that at any hotel in the area during peak season.

The only snafu was that my wife and I left $20 out and it was “taken” by someone. We just pulled it out of the safe and forgot to put it back. The hotel did take $20 off of our tab. This is life and it could happen at even the “best” hotels.

We travel a great deal and would highly recommend this hotel, with a but... The hotel itself is what you would expect of a Marriott, attractive and well run. However, there is a MAJOR construction project next door, virtually on the hotel grounds. Five 20 story condo buildings with serious noise 8:30AM to 6:30PM seven days a week to at least the end of 2006. Do not think of going to this resort unless you can be promised a "sunset" room. These rooms are on the side of the hotel facing away from the construction. All the rooms 4th floor and above have wonderful ocean views, even those not near the ocean.

My wife and I just returned from a 6 night stay at the Casa Magna. Having read some reviews beforehand, we had very few surprises. Just as we had been warned, there was considerable construction noise while sitting at the pool, but I found that they provided earplugs at the towel booth if it gets to be too much.

We had an all-inclusive package which worked out to be a bargain considering we ate most of our meals onsite, and consumed more than our fair share of beverages!

The food and drink service at the Marriott was excellent. We were especially impressed by the servers in the Lobby Bar. It turned out to be our favorite place to go after a day in the sun. They serve great tapas, which was probably our favorite meal. Some evenings they had a guy rolling cigars, and there was a great band on our last night. We had fun talking with Audrey the supervisor as well as the bartender and server.

The only real complaint is with housekeeping. One day we returned to the room at around 4pm, and it had not been made up. I called housekeeping, and they said they would send someone right up. We went back out for an hour, and when we returned, they still hadn't been there. I called again, and they said someone would be right up. They finally got there an hour later, and opened the door as my wife was getting dressed.

I had left a very generous tip on the second day hoping to ensure good housekeeping, but even when they did clean the room, it was evident that it was done hastily. Dirty dishes were left, and we could tell the sheets hadn't been changed.

Enough complaining. All in all, it's a very nice place with great service. We'll probably go back again, but will wait for the construction next door to be done first.

If you go, say hello to Audrey from the couple that gave them some magazines to practice their English!
