Spent a great week in Dec 2004 at Casa Magna. Rooms were great-clean, new beds (ie Westin Heavenly Bed) and rearranged to face the window and the ocean. Food around the pool was good, varied and reasonable. Staff and consierge service were fabulous. Weather was great. Every morning there was free coffee in the bar and a NY Times summary. Mikado rest. was good but pricey. Champs bar a good place to snack. The only negatives--poolchairs were tight, there were always chairs but you were on the lawn or beach if you weren't up early, also there is construction of a large timeshare project next door which made some noise. All in all minor negatives.
In summary--friendly staff, very clean hotel with great room and good food. You can't go wrong and I'll be back next year.
PS--consider the Canopy tour for something to do, it was great and I don't even like heights.

I had read all the reviews and decided upon this hotel. We arrived there and got out of the taxi. The guy at the taxi drop off asked who we were and gave us our room number. Told us to leave our bags and go up to the room. Within minutes our bags arrived and we were checked in! Wonderful. The service in the hotel was amazing from the beginning and remained so throughout. We booked a snorkeling trip which included a trip to Yelapa..a little fishing village I had lived in 33 years earlier. It was great. The swim up bar and the infinity pool were fabulous. This is a great place to visit because you don't have hawkers or too many strange Americans (at least at the time of year we visited...October!) Our room number was 6032...great views and ice cold (it was hot so the cold room was wonderful. Clean and granite floors..great tv reception for those that care about that kind of thing. Our favorite restaurants...River Cafe, Pipis. We drove to Punta Mita..the little town not the fancy resort...ate at El Dorado on the beach and lounged for hours in a palapa on the beach...I highly recommend this place to any and all..Checked out the competition (Westin and others) ...this surpasses any of them...

We recently stayed and the CasaGrand on our 6th trip to PV. We had a wonderful time. The hotel grounds, pool, and beach are large and have a grand feel. Our room was luxurious. We loved the comfortable bed and all the pillows. It's proximity to the Marina is a plus. If you don't want to go all the way to town or eat at the hotel, you can stroll over to the Marina for dinner. (There are some nice inexpensive day spas there too.) Having stayed in 5 other hotels in PV, this is the only one we have plans to go back to. We loved it.

We just returned from a stay over Thanksgiving at the Marriott. I read all the reviews before going and realize you can always find something to complain about. It is a beautiful hotel and the staff really tries to please. Yes, there is construction next door and the noise is 7 days a week. But the music at the pool helps and it wasn't that bad. Some people compained about the food and prices. We ate at he outdoor restaurant for lunch every day and it was wonderful. Had a couple dinners and they weren't so great. The first day they didn't clean our room and we had to complain, but it was done early every day after that and they called to make sure we were satisfied. We had a king bed and used the sleeper sofa for our daughter. The sleeper was awful and they sent a rollaway (free) the next day. Some people complained about the beach and we thought it was great. No, it isn't the blue water of the Carribean, but the sand was fine and you could walk for a long way in one direction (the other way got rocky) past some beautiful condos. The vendors were kept on the beach, but had some nice things and were available when you wanted to shop, with lots to choose from and good prices (after bartering). All in all we loved the Marriott and would return.

All in all this is a beautiful hotel. The service is also great and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
However, next door, I mean right next door construction is being done on one of the four towers that is to be the new Shangri-La condos. The noise the construction is creating can be heard from everywhere, even at the seaside. The noise starts at 7:00 am and continues well past 7:30 PM at night. We had to actually change hotels as it was impossible to relax by the pool or the ocean. And it was impossible to sleep in. In short, i f you are looking to relax on your holiday then stay away until the construction next door is completed. This may be a while too as they are only framing the steel on the first tower. Noise noise noise!!!!!!!
I would however return once the building nextdoor is complete as it is a nice hotel.

I stayed at this hotel back in 1998, I felt the hotel was even better than before. The service throughout the hotel was excellent. The pool area is beautiful and clean. The beds are comfortable, the maids come in twice daily to take care of your room. We only ate breakfast at the hotel, all other meals were in PVR. The breakfast is good.
Over all this hotel is a great value. They are building condos on one side of the Marriott so at times it can be alittle noisy. I had a room on the 8th floor oceanview over looking the pool it is well worth the extra cost.

We stayed here several years ago. The hotel has charm and atmosphere. We loved PV as well. But... after touring the area and seeing the other "inns" "B&Bs," condos, and houses for rent, we deduced there literally is ZERO reason to stay in a large hotel in Puerto Vallarta. Why limit yourself to a standard, "blah" hotel? It's upscale, very nice, but lacks any charm or semblance of being Mexican. Next time, we'll stay further south, in beachfront house.. we had a great time, the hotel was clean, but if you want a beach, this is NOT the hotel you should go to. It's really a slice of America within Mexico. Why travel all the way to Mexico to stay at a Marriot??? We used Rewards points and so paid nothing.. but if we'd paid to travel to PV, we'd certainly not stay at this Marriot, nor any other standard "chain" hotel.
