“a nice afternoon at the beach”
Reviewed October 31, 2004

after reading other reviews i think i know part of the problem. go on a day that the ship is not in port. it gets very crowded on tours with so many people in one place looking for somewhere to go. i went on friday- no ship in port-only one boat load of people at caletas. it was relaxing and the water was great for swimming(i am 59 and managed quite well) food was good. they have added swim with the seals. they are cute little guys who arrive by boat and are not quite ready to play with humans. you can get your picture taken with them though. i opted to not snorkle as there seemed to be alot of people going. those who went seemed to enjoy it. i do believe that alot of people would spoil this tour though. i think i just got lucky.

“Not worth the money”
Reviewed December 28, 2003

The tour we took to Las Caletas didn't live up to its hype or its cost.
The area is very beautiful and you almost get the sense of being on a "Survivor" island but we went for the snorkling and is wasn't that great. Sure you see the odd fish but for poor swimmers trying to swim and battle the surf at the same time is quite difficult. I have 40 dives to my credit and found the surface swimming to be very difficult.
The amount of time you can snorkle is limited and not many people spent more than 30 minutes in the water due to the difficult conditions. I expected a calm, sheltered bay where one could easily swim around...this wasn't the case. On the bright side our meal was very good and the margaritas where much better than at our all inclusive resort. In summary, for four of us to spend the day wasn't really worth the cost of about $350 US. Make certain you don't bend a flipper and crack it or you will be charged an additional $15.00.

“My wife and I wanted to leave!”
Reviewed August 9, 2003

I guess we had a differen't idea of what this tour was! Maybe it was our mistake to actually believe the idea that you could relax there! I felt like I was at camp to tell you the truth. The head guy yelling LUNCH, AND RETURN THE SNORKLE GEAR NOW! I am glad we went there to see this hideaway, because it is gorgeous. And Snorkeling was very interesting but I would never do this again. John Huston is probably turning over in his grave.

“Has potential, but...”
Reviewed August 7, 2003

Four of us took this trip while on a cruise to Mexico in January 2003 hoping to have a few hours on the beach. Unfortunately, the boat trip turned into a hunt for whales (really a delay to get other tourists off the site) which was uneventful and lasted two hours. Arriving with very little time for the beach, we made the best of it. An ok lunch, nice site, very abbreviated stay. The worst part was the boat trip back when the crew apparently equated sound quality with volume. They cranked the sound system up so loud that all the passengers were seeking refuge in the bow or stern to get away from it. They were oblivious to passenger complaints and roamed the boat leaning on people for tips. We will be in PV again next month and regret that this nice site is so poorly managed. We won't be visiting it again!

“Beautiful Clean Water and Beach”
Reviewed July 30, 2003

We visited this beach and it is beautiful. You will get a typical Mexican lunch and the food is delicious. The water was so clear that you could see the fishes swimming alongside you. The beach is secluded and small, so if you are looking to tan laying flat, save that for the beach at your hotel or the boat ride back to the Port. This is a people watching beach. There are hammocks in quaint little places overlooking the Caleta. Make sure you are on the first boat, and leave quickly after arriving or you will have a hard time finding a choice spot. For lunch time, sit at a table at the balcony outside the covered area for more privacy and beautiful views. The bathrooms are clean and the staff is friendly. Don't forget plenty of suntan lotion and maybe a sweater because it gets cold on the boat ride back to the hotel.
