I have a friend who owns a house in this neighborhood. It is quiet, convenient, safe, and within walking distance to good places to eat , drink, and shop. Also, close to bus, and taxis and small stores.
This is the real heart of Puerto Vallarta. I would encourage all visitors to get away from the hotel zone and newly rebuilt Malecon and come and explore this area. Some real gems to be discovered in the way of restaurants, galleries and neighbourhood events.
A great stroll for lunch or dinner and some shopping, pretty scenic and not too touristy. Lots of good food spots and amazing views makes this area definitely worth a visit. Just hop on any bus that has zona romantica written on it and for 65 pesos you can be on your way.
This is the restaurant/club district of PV, adjoining the artisan island and El Centro, where the banks, cathedral, and city hall are. Adjoining the two areas is Malecon, a beach prominade along Banderas Bay. This is also where all of PV's lgbt clubs are; see also Olas Altas and Playa de los Muertos. Prices in Zona Romantica are PV's highest, but still affordable for most tourists.
