“We love this hotel”

We were welcomed home at this hotel, by Luis (at the front desk) when we arrived . And the staff really look after you. This is our fourth time here and as always we enjoyed our home away from home. Luis is the best, he is friendly, and always does a great job .All the staff from the activity coordinator, cleaning ladies, guards,Waiters , Bartenders, and cooking staff are very friendly and take very good care of you. The San Marino is located on the beach, ( brown sugar sandy beach) Nice papalas , three pools (cleaned each morning) , one for the kids, and two for adults. Nice clean rooms( Before each guest arrives the complete bedding and towels are all cleaned and freshly laundered, yes even the bead spreads,.) and clean lounge areas. No its not a five stare but it is a fantastic 3 star. The new pier is right in front of the hotel and is nice to walk out on. THis hotel is in the romantic zone , lots of restaurants, OXXO convienence stores , farmacies, and , shopping. Our head of the kitchen and serving staff Santos is retiring and we will really miss his attention to the great meals. Breakfast and Dinner are really good , supper is not always what we liked, but there is always a varity of dishes to try. We had a great vacation again this year here, and it was hard to go home to the snow and cold. We will be back again next year.

Room Tip: We like the ocean front rooms, but there is always entertainment in the next hotel so it is a bit no...

This was our first time in Puerto Vallarta and we loved staying in Old Town. This hotel is in a great location at the end of the pier where you can catch boats to various day trip excursions. We did not do the all inclusive package but there are so many great places to eat around the hotel that we were glad we didn't do all inclusive. The hotel overall was a great place to stay but the main complaint we had were the rock solid beds and poor connection to WIFI thought the hotel. The wifi was so bad that we ate breakfast at an Internet Cafe two blocks away so we could get online. For these two reason we probably would not stay there again because comfortable beds and readily available wifi are important to us.

We went to enyoy sunny weather and nice ocean views. First, we got a third floor Jr suite but we found it too noisy and we had already written to e-concierge and print-out confirmation of our request for an upper floor.

Next day, we got an 8th floor multi-million dollar oceanview , after only one request to frontdesk. Nice clean room, 802, good AC , along a very large balcony :)

About the food: we are not crazy about buffet food, but it is absolutely designed to latin customers . We only ate there 2 mornings, despite we got the all inclusive plan with AC vacations... Also, they had only 2 draft beers: Indian and Modelo light. None of them were good for our taste . We had to buy beers from Oxxo and put them in our mugs.

We gave to San Marino hotel a 5 stars reviews because we are not going to PV to eat buffet food ( just discover all good restaurants all over ) but we'd rather pay an extra $ to get our preferred beers ( Sol, Corona, Dos Equis) buy the beach or pool.

This hotel has an ideal location right in the heart of old vallarta. It is right at the foot of the new pier. Close to all the gay places in zona romantica however the rooms are terrible. The first room we had was right by the pool on the first floor was bad. The Bed was hard as a rock bathroom was quite dated and no space to move at all. TV was an old box one and you could hear every single person on the street below. We spent one night and upgraded to a Superior room. This room was a bit more acceptable. Flat screen TV, and a bit more space. To flush the toilet you needed 4 goods pulls. The maid however was very good, she left all sorts of towel art on the bed everyday. The main bellman or door man is not very friendly at all. At check out he was more concerned that we had checked out versus asking us if we needed a taxi or help with our bags or even asked if we had enjoyed our stay. That left a sour taste in my mouth but alas we will be looking elsewhere next year as we will definitely return to Puerto Vallarta. A friend of ours was staying in a Jr Suite Ocean View which was quite nice, we tried to upgrade to that but no availability. Also it took 3 days to finally get a safety deposit lock... Not acceptable. Buy more locks!!!

Room Tip: Upper Floor, Jr Suite , Ocean View

First the good.

You cannot go wrong with the location of this hotel. I have never met any nicer people working in a hotel. They all went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. The air conditioning was a bit loud, but kept my room at the perfect temperature. The bed was hard as others have said, but not any harder than any of the other hotels I have stayed at in the area. The view from the Jr. Suites is to die for. I could sit on that balcony all day and people watch. Drink service was good, and drinks were cheap.

The not so good.

Only 1 beach towel per person, and you have to have a card to get a towel. Lost the card, and you will be charged $25 USD. While the cleanliness of the rooms was fine, the grounds could have been kept up much better. An example was a drink spilled on my second day at the pool. It was still there when I left 5 days later. There is no hotel lobby to relax in. The elevators were frequently out of order. Wi-fi was barely existent, and only in the restaurant, and the pool area. All the pool lounge chairs at the adult pool were taken before day light. That is not an exageration. At 7am in the morning I watched a parade of people plunking their stuff down on all the chairs, despite a sign saying that saving chairs is not allowed. Rude behavior that should have been policed better by security. The Jr. Suites did not appear to be very much larger than the standard rooms. They also did not have any extra amenities, like refridgerator or stove.

For the price I paid (under $75 a night) I was happy, but if I had paid more, I would not have been. I probably would not go back simply because other hotels in the area have nicer grounds, although the nice employees went a long ways to make up for what the hotel was lacking.

I did not do the all inclusive, so I cannot comment on the food. The people I talked to said it was often cold, and not very good, but that is just heresay.

Nice pool area, food was just ok, the bedroom felt like hell too hot, loud cool system, the beds too old, I wish I had more information before to avoid it, location is great. the front desk guy was too slow and distracted.

Room Tip: good luck if this is your choice

We stayed here for 17 days in January 2013. We returned two days ago so the place is pretty fresh in my mind. We arrived and check in went smoothly, although we were the only ones checking in at that time. I think that if this was not the case, it would have been a lot different. There was only one guy working the front desk and he seemed to always be the guy working there. We checked into our room and the bellman was courteous and gracious. The room was OK, basic with an old style TV and a king-size bed. We were a bit cold the first night as the bed had only light bedding on it and it was a bit chilly at night. With some difficulty, we managed to communicate to the maid that we would like a blanket or two and she brought them straight up.
The hotel is ideally situated if you like a lot of city life and perusing about the streets. We found it a bit noisy for our tastes. The Los Muertos pier is directly out front of the hotel. Water taxis make regular trips from here to and from the village of Yelapa. Our room faced the street that accesses the pier and this added to the traffic and noise that could be heard from our room. There's a bar on the beach, adjacent to the pier, that features a reggae bad on two or three nights of the week. This draws a good crowd, as does the pier itself. The area is undoubtedly the busiest in PVR.
The restaurant had plenty of staff and dishes were cleared in a timely fashion. On weekends a good crowd of Mexicans would holiday at this hotel, as in most hotels in PVR, and the restaurant would often be busy and it became necessary to take meals at odd hours to avoid the rush and find a good table. The food was not fancy but was OK and the menu varied enough that it wasn't too boring.
Overall, if you like a lot of off resort activity and don't mind some noise, this would be recommended. It was a bit too "hot" for my taste but I wasn't sorry for the experience.

Room Tip: Try and avoid the rooms on the east side of the complex. The have no balcony or private window. The...
