Hacienda Buenaventura Hotel & Mexican Charm All Inclusive
Ranked #20 of 122 Hotels in Puerto Vallarta
Reviewed July 27, 2014

Hotel is nice, food was edible but not great, drinks were watered down.
it was a hassle checking out, you must have a release slip to leave the hotel.
Food selection could have been better, it was just ok.

this hotel was chosen by a travel agency for me. i am an american living here in mexico, so i have had my fare share of crazy places to stay. i stayed at this hotel the weekend of June 19-23. most of the reviews are accurate. our room was nice, clean and comfortable. we were on the second floor overlooking the pool. the hotel is nice as well, but is not near the malecon or any taco stands mentioned. that is a 10 minute cab ride or about 15 minutes by bus. this hotel is located near the harbor where cruise ships dock. it has beach access, a 3 block walk or they have a small truck to take you. now the bad part. the food is horrible, breakfast, lunch and dinner. the snack bar by the pool and at the beach house only offers hamburgers, chicken nuggets and nachos. the fruit is fresh, but the cooked items are just the worst.the alcohol is the lowest brand available, with only two types of beer on tap. the pool is open to the public during the day and on saturday the water was so oily and dirty it was just plain gross. a family had a small boy with a nose bleed and they just washed him off in the pool, other children washed off their beach sand in the pool, given there is a shower located right by the pool. in dollars you are paying about 150 a night, so keep in mind what you spend is what you get. i would stay here again, because i enjoyed the room, but i would really recommend eating out, or just find a better price point hotel. last, the wi-fi works for the first hour of your stay, then nothing. but it is free.

I was just looking at some of the negative reviews on the Hacienda and being as how my wife and I just stayed at this hotel in April thought I must comment myself , the hotel is situated close to the malecon and rustic downtown , the location is great for those that are not squeamish travellers , you can go out in the evening and enjoy some tacos in the alleyways close to the hotel which are great food and very inexpensive you can chat with some of the local folks which is very enjoyable also or stroll the malecon and enjoy some music and drinks at the varios restaurants along the way , local vendors have wares and lots of food carts with a lovely variety of deserts and treats to try out , the hotel staff from the bar tenders to the cleaning staff and servers are all very friendly and perhaps may try too hard sometimes to make your visit special , we travel a fair bit so don't really require the extra pampering as some of the less seasoned travellers , the hotel is an older model and as such shows a little wear most nights we left the patio doors wide open on the balcony to have a breeze ( we don't use the air conditioners normally better to have the morning temperature equal to the room temperature prior to leaving the room in the morning ) bugs ? what bugs ? your in a tropical area folks there is going to be a few bugs but there was hardly any here and if we see the odd cockroach somewhere it doesn't bother my wife or myself it's the tropics stay home in your house if you are afraid of a few bugs , the food was great at the resort the first few nights we ate at the taco stands but did enjoy a few evening suppers at the resort , took a few tours from the guys off the beach lot's of fun there , but again we are seasoned travellers and are not afraid of touring around a bit , breakfasts were great you could custom order an omelette and garnish it with the varied sides , the location is great , the staff attentive and the hotel provides some evening entertainment all in all a great place to stay .....I will be booking a trip there for October to see wonderful staff and tour around a bit more

We lasted one night here. Going to the hotel we we weary of the recent bad reviews. Hoping for the best, we got to the hotel and realized it was an absolute dump! Our room looked about 1000 years old, our door would not close, the shower didn't work, and we woke up to a cockroach in our room! We are not at ALL picky people, but when you are paying for an all inclusive resort, you are thinking pina coladas on the beach, relaxing by the pool, eating nice meals, etc. First of all there was no beach close to this hotel, the pool area was filled with locals who would stare at you (being the only Caucasian people there), and the meals were the same left overs for breakfast, lunch and dinner... and don't even get me started about the "snack bar". It was such a relief when we were able to move to our new hotel the next day, I don't think I've ever run so fast in my life. All in all, this hotel compares to a dirty old motel and should probably be shut down

Room Tip: Do NOT stay here

We booked this trip thinking the resort would be fine read all the reviews and figure it would be ok for our first trip. We found the negative reviews exactly what it was. We are not picky people at all. But this place is a joke. When we got there I was starving hadn't had anything since we left home. The buffet was closed. So we checked out the snack bar. The food looked like it had been sitting there all day nothing was consumable. We went to the outback steak house across the Street. The pool was over crowded with local people. We got a lot of strange looks and felt uncomfortable. They cranked the music all day long tell late at night. No ac in the room and it had an smell. The bed was like sleeping on cement. The front counter people didn't exactly seem like they enjoyed working there. There was some dude in the lobby trying to sell time shares. My girlfriend is very assertive and called the airline rep and they had us moved the next day to the hilton where we had the most amazing vacation thank god we didn't have to stay at this place we would have wasted our money please don't go here

We stayed at the Hacienda because we were on a budget. We nevertheless expected a certain level of service and cleanliness but didn't get it. The staff at the door and the front desk were apathetic at best; the bartender was the friendliest! We didn't mind so much that the whole place needed maintenance and repair. What we did mind was the black mold in the bathroom - yuk. We hadn't signed on for the all inclusive food and drink plan and, after dining and drinking there the first day, we were so relieved! The food was low quality (left-over hot dog casserole? really?) and the drinks were watered down. Just don't even bother.
