WOW! The best experience I have ever had in a destination. The location was fantastic! Right in the downtown area on the beach with all the ammenities right at our door step. The staff were the most friendly people I have EVER met and went above and beyond our expectations and went more than out of their way to help us have the experience of a life time. The beach may not be like one you would see in the Carribean but with this resort you get the real Mexican feel with all the luxurys of back home. Food was amazing, shopping was awesome, and I can't stress enough LOCATION,LOCATION,LOCATION! It doesn't get any better than being able to walk to the boardwalk and do some shopping at the local markets and grocery stores and feel like you are right in with the very friendly Mexicans and some of the best food in Mexico. The area is very safe as well and the Hotel has a purified water so the whole experience was very worry free. Miriam was very helpful to us while we stayed at the Buenaventura. She didn't just make the whole experience in Vallarta worry free and easy for us but she treated us like close friends. The many other staff members were incredible, such as the cleaning staff and the waiters. The day we had to leave we were in Tears because we had to leave the great friends we had made in Vallarta. We exchanged many emails with the staff at the resort and gave them a hug and tryed to fight back tears but we had to leave what I would call Home! I would recommend this hotel to ANYONE!! All inclusive is amazing because you get everything Unlimted and its all the best foods! It includes room service as well!

Room Tip: Any room is great! Ocean view rooms are the best but I would be happy anywhere I stayed at this reso...

We stayed there in early March 2012 for 7 nights... Room 1333...We had the all-inclusive plan which proved to be a very good choice as we enjoyed tremendously the breakfast, lunch, and dinner there... each and every time... The staff were friendly, cheerful, and attentive... The beach is right there by the lunch restaurant and bar, and it was picture perfect... I felt like I was staying in paradise...! The buffet meals are fine with many varieties.. and there's always a fish dish there which is always fresh and tasty...Our room was clean with an ocean view - one caution, when you sit out in the balcony, be careful not to lock yourself out... as the door to the balcony locks from the inside once it's shut...! At dinner time, there's always some entertainment activities going-on... a Hawaii Night theme, Mexican music, Karaoke etc... Location of hotel is perfect for us... as we take walks to the Malecon (the downtown, romantic zone) everyday which takes only about 10 minutes... and it's worth it as there's always some interesting activities going on along that stretch of land... shopping at the flea market is just close by the malecon...and it was fun... but please, do bargain with the vendors.... We had been advised to take a 25% off everything when we bargain..and sometimes, that did work for us, which is actually part of the fun... The bar at the hotel down in the lobby area serves nice cocktails... and the architecture of the hotel is interestingly appealing... A Walmart is about a 3 minutes bus ride which cost only about 60 cents each ride... cheap and fun... Would definitely go back and stay at this charming hotel again...

Room Tip: always ask for a room with the ocean view.

Our group of 10, ranging in age from 40-78 enjoyed a fabulous week Jan 13-20, 2012. We had an enjoyable, quick check in, very compact functional clean rooms, AC worked great, lots of hot water, great closet space, with in room safe (get lock/key at check in desk). The service at the pool bar was the best we have have seen or had, nothing but accolades for the staff, they bring food and drinks to the chairs, the pool side and the beach. The Shatki spa is worth the trip up for treatments and the view. Very quick easy walk to the Malecon (recently redone and closed to vehicle traffic). Lots going on around the hotel - paella class, tacos al pastor class and bartending class - try them out. Great Activities people and Jorge got us involved. Only negative is in trying to cash travellers cheques at the front desk (issue with Amex us dollar issued in Canada), one day yes, next day no - from talking with Ronald Vega the GM issue is with the bank, so if you take travellers cheques save time and go to a cambio they have no issues. Did a side tour with our Sunquest rep to San Sebastian - old 1500's mining town, had a great dinner at Hacienda San Angel - highly highly recommend. A must do for anyone looking for a great location near town with excellent service. Can't wait to go back again soon.

Room Tip: 1248 has great view, I have a property map if any requires

Pros:
Service People
Location (5 minute walk to walking District, Melocon)
24 Hour Room Service (Free with All Inclusive)
Drinks
Weather in Puerto Vallarta

Cons:
Overall Size of Property is Smaller
Size of Private Beach (30 Beach Chairs Available)
Street View Rooms (For a small price go with oceanview room)
Day Passes Sold to Locals (Thur to Sat Can be Busy)
Front Desk Staff (They treated us okay though. If you get here at rush hour expect to wait)

Summary:
Service staff makes this hotel great! Small tips go a long way. Jorge will bring you food and drinks all day at the pool area. He even hugged and kissed us when he saw us in the morning

The food is exceptional, definitely 4 star quality. You can order off the menu all you want or do the buffets.

Room service is 24 hours. This is something unique to this hotel. Wake up and order a pot of coffee and some fruit to your room.

Overall this a 4 Star Resort. For that extra star you're looking at throwing a whole lot of extra money away.

Price to Quality Ratio is the best here.

I went with my two teenage daughters, wife and her mom and we have been spoiled by the white sand and green waters of the Caribbean side so going to PV for our spring break was not my first choice (also having been there 3 times before). However, I have to say, after getting there and to this quaint, Mexican style hotel, I really enjoyed my stay well beyond my expectations. Yes, the sand is brownish and the water a bit cooler (especially at this time of the year), but it beat being in rainy and cold Vancouver. The people here were very friendly and helpful (sorry to see a few reviews below that say contrary), the food was good with lots of options (i liked it better than my wife who feels some extra choices in dessert and some fresh cheeses would have been nice), the hotel was located in a great location. It felt tropical and peaceful when inside and just step out the front doors and you're in the hustle and bustle of real Mexico. Loved that! The grounds, pool and rooms were all kept clean. People have to remember that this isn't the Fairmont hotel and there are going to be a few glitches here and there...make the best of it...you're in Mexico!!! Here are my pro's and con's

Pro's:
- Location - as mentioned above, great combination of quiet tropical feel and also the real Mexico once you step outside the doors. A short 10 minute walk to the Malecon either on the road or on the beach
- Food was tasty and waiters always smiling and willing to get you something. We never got sick and my favorite was breakfast which had the eggs made in front of you, always with a smile. The restaurant by the beach was so great and had a beatiful view of the ocean while having your lunch or dinner. The a-la-cartes were just ok, not great. But they try hard.
- Jorge at the pool and beach was great and really went out of his way to make you comfortable. So did Blanca, Omar, Gustavo, Lluvia, Rosa and many others that I have forgotten. These guys don't earn well and rely on tips so tip well.
- Rooms were clean and fridge was always restocked daily. So were the towels. A/C and fridge worked
- The free internet service really helped (you can use their own computers or the free wifi in the lobby) as we could send emails to everyone to let them know we were all ok
- felt very safe there. I know there's a lot in the news about going to Mexico but really felt safe. No one hassled us. Yes, you get the peddlers on the beach but a polite "no gracias' and they were gone.
- Lot's of lounge chairs at the pool and at the beach (the week we were there). Got up after 9am a few days and still got a hut on the beach. Yes, the busier holidays might be tougher to get them, but don't go then :-). Actually we went there from March 11-18 and it was fairly quiet until the last few days when all the locals came into the hotel due to a Mexican holiday and it really got busy but still not bad. Got busier at the bars!
- We went with my mother who has trouble walking, but the hotel was very handicapped friendly. Elevators, ramps, walk in showers, etc
- A few doors down was a massage place for 25 bucks for a one hour massage! And it was really good too.
- Sunsets were beautiful

Con's:
- Because its a smaller hotel, getting upgraded to a room with a balcony was tough. Our room was actually really nice with an ocean view but no balcony.
- You get a better exchange rate at the bank a few blocks down the street than at the hotel. But yes, you will still need to show your passport.
- Again the beach is not the white sandy beach and green waters so that was a bit of a downer for us... but made the best of it. The colder Pacific waters, rockier beach and undertow didn't allow us to swim in the ocean for very long like we love to do when we go somewhere tropical.
- The night entertainment was just ok. It's not on every night so some evenings were quieter. One night they had a band playing some great tunes, but that was about it.
- Really didn't take part in the daily activities so can't comment on that. They did have a free tile painting lesson for the kids and my 2 teenage daughters really enjoyed that.
- The halls can be quite noisy and echo a lot which can be a problem for light sleepers when you have drunk teenagers running through them at 4 in the morning. Not really the hotels fault though

That's all I can think of right now. Hope you find this helpful. If you need more info, feel free to message me.

Note that my mother-in-law can't do stairs very well and unfortunately the Sunwing plane didn't stop at the gate with a ramp. It stopped on the tarmac and they brought those stair thingy's to the plane which really made it tough for her to go down. So if you are travelling with someone like that, please be aware of this. Not sure if this happens all the time because when we left PV, the plane came to the gate with a ramp so it was ok.

Room Tip: Stay on an upper floor with a ocean view and with a balcony if possible. Also try to get a room clo...

We picked this hotel mainly for the location and we were not disappointed. It allows you to walk pretty much everywhere. The hotel is well set up also for families and it has a nice space with 2 swimming pools, a nice area with lounge chairs in the water where you can relax and have a drink facing the ocean. There's a private beach and service included. Our room was at the 3rd floor and had a little balcony with garden and ocean view. The room was very spacious and well mantained. The bathroom was spacious as well, just needed a little mantainance for the shower. The hotel is a few blocks from Malecon and you can walk towards the Zona Romantica where all the little typical restaurants are (our favorite in that area was Cafe' de Olla, better to make a reservation). Breakfast we had a little later (and we'd consider it more like a daily brunch) and it's really delicious and abundant. We consider that a very strong point for the Buenaventura hotel. On that note we had to deal with a little inconveniences. By the time we booked the trip on Expedia, we have received from it a coupon for free breakfasts on our 7 days holiday, which seemed to be easy to get but... when we got there we've been told that there was no name on the coupon therefore it wasn't valid. We spent much time on the phone and sent numerous email to clarify this with Expedia which was very helpful in convincing the hotel to honor the coupon. The front desk was really helpful but we ended up having the final OK the same day we checked out. That was worth it, cause the breakfast would have cost to us over 400 dollars. So our suggestion is to make sure everything is clear when you check in. You'll save time/money. A very good restaurant not too far from the hotel (it needs a cab, anyway) it's called "La Langosta Feliz". Not a fancy area and not touristic but the seafood is really excellent (it needs a reservation).
