Amazing old churches and markets where no one is constantly pestering you. We loved walking around and meeting new people.

An excellent way to soak into yue local culture of food and it's people. The sights and sounds of old Vallarta is the best experience outside the resort. Take a bus or hail a taxi from wherever you are staying and make it a point to walk and taste the restaurants on the streets.

Old Vallarta is an amazing peek back in time but also has a blend of architecture blended in over the past and very recent years/decades. There are many very old buildings and cobble stone roads as well as magnificent new build mountain side villas. Its often a rocky uneven road with lots of high curbs so don't do it in flip flops. Lots of authentic restaurants and some of the best food can be found in the hole-in-the-wall style places.

The streets are a delightful way to browse the local scene. Go from the hectic and buzzing Romantic Zone to the historic Centro area... just a ten minute walk to the old residential center with magnificent church. Continue along Hidalgo toward famous Cafe Des Artistes, Pipi's and Art Walk's nine galleries to have both a feast for dining and creativity. Guadalupe Sanchez is the street to continue on. Brasil Steakhouse and cafes offer more dining treats.

I visited shortly to eat at a Thai Restaurant (I wanted something besides Mexican) and I loved the area! There are many restaurants, local shops, places to stay overnight, and the beach...all within walking distance. If I return to PV I will definitely stay in this area.
