If you want to enjoy a wonderful Sunday breakfast with that special person, then La Chata on the Malecon is THE place for you. The upstairs restaurant is next to Bubba Gumps on Paseo Diaz Ordaz and enjoys a beautiful view of the Malecon and the bay.
There is nothing better than getting up a bit early Sunday AMs and heading down to the Malecon for a hot breakfast. La Chata was founded in 1942 and is one of the oldest continuous operating restaurants in the El Centro zone of PV. The ambiance is "Old Mexico" with white stucco arches, glass double-doors to the outside, al fresco dining and about 30 tables with colorful table cloths.
On this occasion I selected a classic scrambled eggs with bacon and my wife had the Juevos Mexicana. We also ordered coffee and a nice selection of muffins and small pastries.
The Mexican coffee and muffins were excellent and we received our breakfasts within 15 mins.
The presentations for both meals were very nice. As the meals arrived so did a trio of string guitar musicians known as "Los Faraones." The trio serenaded the assembled diners for an hour and I have to tell you that they were some of the best I have had the pleasure to hear in Mexico. Bravo, caballeros!
Both of our meals were tasty and of sufficient portions that we did not leave there hungry. Our server was attentive and kept our cups filled with java. The excellent strings and singers playing, the sun shining through the open doors and the beautiful view and scent of the bay all around us made our breakfast a wonderful and memorable experience.
Prices at La Chata are very reasonable and the staff is always polite and helpful. This is the Old Mexico you won't find in "Cabo." I assure you.
After eating, we took our time and strolled down the Malecon enjoying the artwork on a beautiful Sunday morning. This is what a vacation is all about. Enjoy!
