“Classiest Resort in PV”
Reviewed March 5, 2011

My two twenties-something daughters and I fell in love with Garza Blanca and were ready to stay forever! We enjoyed a two-bedroom suite on the 5th floor of the 3rd (and last) building which was incredibly comfortable (although duvets would have helped at night). We grocery shopped for our breakfasts which helped us appreciate the well-outfitted kitchen (stainless Kitchenaid appliances). The washer/dryer were also a blessing.
And don't listen to any bad comments regarding their restaurant Blanca Blue - our supper there was the best we had anywhere in PV and plentiful too. Try the boneless short rib - to die for!.
The State Governor was at GB for 2 days which, I think, says a lot about the quality of security, service and all around grace of the place.
We had the good fortune to see whales many, many days frolicking off our beach. The beach, by the way, is not private but is relatively quiet given the distance from PV (a 100 peso taxi trip to the Malecon).
Our day trip to Sayulita (a surfer's town) was a trip highlight and well worth the trouble of getting there - I recommend it!
Go to Garza Blanca before all the development (condos, restaurants, shopping mall) is completed and the prices skyrocket. You'll fall in love with it too.

This is a beautiful hotel on a quiet stretch of beach about 10 minutes' drive south of PV. The room was large and well-appointed, with a jacuzzi on the balcony and a great view of the bay. The restaurant was very nice, with extremely reasonable prices. The infinity pool was gorgeous, and we enjoyed the poolside bar. I can't think of a single negative thing to say about this place.

The Garza Blanca is a stunning property. The common facilities are very attractive, the pool area is gorgeous and the rooms are huge and well-appointed. Our family of five had a two bedroom suite that was 2000+ sq. ft. Top quality towels, robes and linens, appliances and toiletries. We found having a washer/dryer in the room was a real plus. Secure parking is free right under the buildings.

The staff was so friendly that I hate to say anything critical about the place but there are a few things that need improvement. The biggest issue for most people will be the internet service. The hotel has wireless internet in the common areas but it is really slow if it works at all. In our room, we had an ethernet cable but no wireless. I had read about this in advance so I brought a small travel router but the quality of the internet service to the room was so bad that we couldn't use either the wired or wireless connection. The hotel claims they are switching providers but who knows. The hotel location is far enough out of town that I had trouble getting an iPhone signal unless I wandered around the property.

The hotel is directly adjacent to the main road south out of Puerto Vallarta. There is a lot of construction going on across the street. I assume that someday that will go away but there will always be road noise. It may not bother most people but you will definitely hear the trucks and busses at night.

Our room had two frosted glass windows in the master bathroom with no shade. The door between the bedroom and the bathroom also has frosted glass so there was no way to get our room completely dark at night. Not a big deal for us but if you need a pitch dark room to sleep it would be an issue.

The beach is nice but not very swimmer friendly. It's fairly steep so the surf pounds hard and there are too many rocks to count on a soft sand landing when body surfing.

Finally, the pool food service is nice but definitely too expensive for what you get.

Now that I've said all these terrible things, I have to add that we can't wait to go back again in April. Besides the incredible facilities, the hotel is well located for day trips to the south. We had a rental car which is very easy and made day trips to Mismaloya, Boca, the Los Veranos zip lines and El Tuito. Our best meal of the trip was at Alta Mira Ranch just south of El Tuito. An incredible lunch for four of grilled meats, grilled peppers and onions, fresh tortillas, and guacamole, unlimited beer and sodas for about USD $65. They even have a large fishing pond and 4-wheelers for rent. First time I ever used tortillas for bait but the tilapia go nuts for them.

All in all, the Garza Blanca is a fantastic place which could be even better with a few adjustments. I strongly recommend it.

We stayed at the Garza Blanca in a suite with the all inclusive pkg. The room, cleanliness were bar none, all of the time. The grounds, pool etc. were all very clean and well manicured. Service whether from the pool bar to the Garza Blue was mediocre at best and we felt that as all inclusive guests that service was not a priority. The concierge were fabulous, always willing to help and answer questions, very patient with us as were the pool personnel always there with towels. The views are gorgeous, loved watching the whales play either from your room or the pool, awesome! I thought the beach could have been cleaner, with a little bit of litter strewn about, I know thats nitpicking but for a 5 star hotel? it shouldn't be there at all. We went into town every night for dinner even though we were all inclusive, you just tire of the same food every night for dinner and it takes way too long, we were there 1st night from 7:30 until almost 10:30 Pool Bar food is good for lunch, snacks etc. Again, the rooms, grounds, pool are beautiful, the employees are very nice, service is just very slow and not very accurate for a 5 star hotel, has to be made a priority as we talked to some vacationers there who wouldn't return there due to service issues. I am happy with my stay but we wouldn't go back again.

This is a spectacular hotel. The views are beautiful and the hotel itself is very nice. The pool is not huge, but one of the best decorated and most beautiful I have seen.

The staff are very nice, but lack a sense of urgency.. When I travel, I have to check in to my business, online everyday, the hotel advertises " Wireless Internet " .. but when you arrive, you find out the rooms are not wireless. They supply you with a 5' cable, which didn't work.

So we have to travel into Vallarta everyday to use the internet at Starbucks.. They got the wireless working in the lobby, but it was so inconsistent that I gave up.. I have to ask myself, in a building that was built a year ago.. who doesn't install wireless internet in the rooms?

The internet being down may not be the fault of the hotel, but trying to get an explanation from the staff was impossible. That was the real frustration..

This would be a wonderful romantic getaway hotel. For business travelers, not so good. The staff are very relaxed, which is nice, unless your trying to get something done.. lol

I would give them a 5 star for facility, but as a new hotel, they need to work on the rest.

Stunningly beautiful and very romantic. Very quiet, relaxing and soothing. We did not opt for the all-inclusive package but did eat primarily at the resort (just couldn't bring ourselves to leave it). Meals were pricey but good. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and if we return to the PV area it will be simply to have the opportunity to stay at Garza Blanca again. Watching the whales play in the rays on the setting sun from the side of the warm infinity pool will always be my highlight - or maybe it will be watching the whales play from the hammock - hmmmmmmm

We arrived to this lovely resort and were pleasantly surprised since the lobby. On check in we got a free upgrade to a one bedroom suite, which is incredible. Includes all the amenities, as well as a balcony hammock. Overall, everything was great but lacking attention to details. For example, there was no "DND" signs anywhere to be found. You know those directories with menus/phone numbers/hotel info? None of those either. Nothing that would ruin your experience, but small things you'd miss/notice.
Pool: Incredible, infinity view of the ocean. Also, we especially liked the available free board games and sunscreen. Never overcrowded, comfortable pool-side furniture, drink service (try the Maracuya smoothie!)
Restaurants: There are two options, pool side with more causal dining. Food is okay, overpriced as you'd expect. In general the service was very courteous but slow... and occasionally missed ordered items. The main restaurant was where we had Valentine's day dinner and the food was pretty delicious, but the service was again slow and somewhat unorganized (e.g. bread arrives halfway through meal).
One of the highlights was the concierge service, which was especially helpful and pleasant, full of good suggestions.

Overall, would love to come back and would recommend to our friends. Once management works on the service aspects this resort will be top notch.
