This is a very friendly hostel. From the arrival they gave us a warm welcome. The father and daughter that run the hostel are wonderful hosts. Even if the rooms and bathrooms are not be very comfortable - they are not well designed - they are fairly good for one or two nights stay. The dining room is spacious, well ventilated and the kitchen is fine. Breakfast is served there. The staff is very helpful and kind. The hostel has a meeting space at the roof terrace. The view is not nice from there but the human environment is friendly and gatherings can get fun and enjoyable.

Room tip: I don't know about the rest but our room was fine. Not noisy at all.

Nestled near the hills surrounding Puerto Vallarta, Oasis hostel provides clean and cozy accommodations to suit any budget! Don Juan is the perfect host, and his staff of family members make you feel at home. In addition to 2 terraces with calming views of the hills, the property also features a rotating continental breakfast. This area is conventiently located for access to Centro and the beach!

Oasis Hostel is a great budget option in Puerto Vallarta. This backpackers’ hostel is not the closest to the beach or city center. However, the distance is walkable and you will get the chance to know less touristic areas of the town. Besides, I really enjoyed the relaxed and fun atmosphere, the city views from the rooftop terrace and the pancakes for breakfast. I definitely would go back.

I have stayed in hotels across several countries and all across the US and I can tell you there are fancier places to rest your head...

However.

If you want to sample the "real" spirit of PV where you can immerse yourself in the same place the locals live and work, away from the cruise ships (and Walmart), where the smiles of the people are genuine and you don't mind a fifteen minute stroll through neighborhoods and picturesque "old" Vallarta to the beach... Then this location is for you.

It seems a few of the reviewers have forgotten that hostels were not created to cater to people who seek the pinnacle all-inclusive experience that you find along the beaches or in places like the Las Vegas strip. Thankfully, they remove you from that and place you in areas where you can hear the hum of the genuine spirit of the place. Hostels are designed to be comfortable for you to go to sleep and wake up in but are small and inexpensive enough that you actually want to go OUT to spend your day in the place you traveled to. They also are hubs for bringing people together who are like minded and world travelers from all corners of the globe. The tables are usually touch and go points for conversations with an ever changing base of varied peoples. You’ll make connections in different countries and start friendships that may last a lifetime. If you are the sort of person that travels to exotic locations only to stay in your flashy room then yes, you will not enjoy your stay at a hostel.

This hostel in particular, features a colorful and friendly staff that is wildly knowledgeable about the location and what there is for you to do. Be kind and respectful and listen to these folks as they can be what makes your time in PV truly magical. As for the accommodations, I found the rooms clean and though Spartan they were absolutely utilitarian and exactly what I required. Evenings on the roof with a Pacifico in hand were absolutely enjoyable and relaxing. Guillermo personally took me down the block one evening and introduced me to a very small mom/pop food cart with the best quesadillas I’ve ever had in my life. I know I ducked out of a few dinners in nice restaurants for the privilege of sitting on a curb at night and munching a couple delicious quesadillas. I would have never known this place existed had it not been for his guidance.

Personally, I would stay here in an instant before even slightly considering the larger all-inclusive and amenity rich locations. But I like adventure, meeting people, and connecting to the area.

I was actually charged twice: once by hostelworld.com and then again once I arrived. I did not realize this until later. I do not beleive it was intentional on the part of the owner, just a misunderstanding. No big deal because the (hostel bed) bed price was very reasonable. The shared room was not fancy, the bedding was ok and there was a fan. In the hotter part of the year it might be too hot without aircon. Overall though, this was a great first location in PV, friendly, with cheap Coronas and a cheap (and frequent) bus ride to town. Good place.

Hello Mike,

We really appreciate your comments. I would like to say “HostelWolrd” never charges the full amount is just 13% of the total and at the check-in the hostels pick up the rest of the money. Unfortunately Hostels do not have any control related with Hostel World charges.

PS. I have check any reservation under Mike and our last one stay on 2016. You may stay in another Oasis, Oasis Downtown Hostel. Unfortunately is running by another administration.

Saludos desde PV,
Alejandro
