Description: If you enjoy European sidewalk cafés and fine continental cuisine, this award-winning eatery evoking Old Vienna at its heyday is sure to charm you. A longtime Vallarta favorite, Austrian owner Andreas Rupprechter named the place in honor of fellow countryman, Mexico’s former emperor. And Maximilian himself would have loved dining here, perhaps, choosing hearty comfort food like Wienerschnitzel with potatoes and Austrian salad. Or delving into gourmet renditions of contemporary European fare, like Duo of duck breast and duck confit with Spätzle, mushrooms and sugar snap peas. And while the menu is constantly being tweaked, it’s nice knowing that some things don’t change, and for a dozen of years we’ve been able to count on enjoying our favorite plates here. So whether dining al fresco with unparalleled people watching, or in an intimate, air-conditioned, Old World milieu, when a fabulous meal or just a perfect pastry and a special coffee is what you crave, this is the place to be.

We went to Kaiser Maximilian last night for Restaurant Week. We have been coming to PV for 10 years and always passed it and wanted to eat there but never have. It's a lovely little wood and mirrored place reminiscent of a French bistro or European Café. We arrived around 9:00pm and there was only 1 small table inside, although all the tables outside were open (it was a warm evening). We were afraid since we didn't have reservations we may have to come back or eat outside but they were more than hospitable to give the table to us inside.
While the menus on the Restaurant Week website list 3 items in each category we were very pleased to get a menu that had many more choices included in the $299 pesos per person special.
We got the red cabbage soup and crab cakes for appetizers. Both were large and delectable! One got the Beef Tenderloin with gorgonzola sauce and one got the mixed combo of shrimp, fish filet and small chicken breast all in a smoked chipotle sauce. Again both very nice size portions, properly seasoned on all and delicious!
We both got dessert (included) one got the Bananas, pecan and vanilla ice cream and one had the Chocolate pot de crème.
Cannot recommend dinner here enough. We were not rushed, service was impeccable, food outstanding and for the value can't be beat!

For the 5th year in a row, we celebrated my wife's birthday with a visit to Kaiser Maximilian. As before, the food, service and ambiance were excellent. I had the leg of veal and my wife had the scallops...exquisite tastes & preparation! Escargot to begin, caesar salad and then our main courses accompanied by a lovely Chilean pinot gris. We ended the evening with cafe mexicano/cafe español. No hurry, no rush...the way food should be enjoyed.

We dined here last night and were treated wonderfully. Jesus is an absolutely excellent server. He remembered my wife from previous luncheons as well as her eating disorder. He and the chef understand celiac disease precisely and they are very attentive to the gluten issues. Meal was special as always. An absolute must for PV visitors.

Kaiser Maximilian is consistently very good each time I go. Always make it a point to dine there once during a visit to PV.

My husband and I frequent Maximilian's quite often. In fact, the bartender normally has our drinks to our table before we even sit down. Last night we shared the scallop and shrimp appetizer, which was cooked in a red lobster cream sauce and each served with a puff pastry. We then shared a Caesar salad. They have these encredible croutons. They are similiar to a scalloped potato, cut into a crouton, then breaded and fried. We then shared the fish of the day. It was baked in a creamy white sauce served with a fresh vegetable dish and topped with a baked whipped potato on top. If you are a couple that enjoys dining in the finer places, and has an appetite for creative dishes, this is the place for you. The crew doesn't mind splitting dishes and it is a wonderful way to try more of the dishes. I highly recommend this place. Tell the taxi, Maximilians in Old Town Central. If you drive, there is a cheap parking lot just north a couple of blocks. Great People watching! Great Place!!!!
