“The worst - we were robbed by the staff checking in at the counter.”

DO NOT GO TO SEA GARDEN... DO NOT EVEN GO TO MAZATLAN... DON'T BOTHER. We were robbed at the front lobby desk while checking in. It was a scam by the front desk employees. The employes gather around you to get you checked in and when they lean WAY over to put on your wrist band... your bill fold, which had been placed on the counter magically disappears... and no one has any idea what happened. Oh, and the security camera is not functioning... or takes too long to check. Management really doesn't care although they put on a front that they do. I would only recommend to someone who can only afford the Ymca...

We spent a week at the Mayan Sea Garden Mazatlan. The hotel is tired and could use a bit of updating. The staff at the pool bar and the restaurant were friendly and helpful. Upon arrival we were given some room credits to use towards meals and activities. We used these to enjoy some of the event dinners at the resort. The sales pitch with a "free breakfast" was the usual, we have been there and done that. We did not buy in as we own elsewhere but really did not need to be treated so indifferntly by the 2nd and 3rd layer of sales pitch staff. Our 90 minute pitch took about 2 1/2 hours.
We took the Colonial Tour offered by the hotel and really enjoyed it. The small villages we visted were interesting and gave us another view of Mexico.
On the hotel gounds, the Sun Market has lots to offer in the way of groceries. If you want fresh baking or produce, go early in the day. The store with the Pacifico Can on the roof across the street has cheaper beer and other stuff but no fresh produce. If you plan to cook, take a taxi to the supermarket and get what you need. Better prices and better quality. We walked along the beach to Mr. Lionss Restaruant beside the RIU at the rock as it was recommened by a friend. Good food and nice restaurant if you want a change. It's a bit of a hike, at least 30 - 45 minute walk.
Right at the hotel entrance you can catch the bus to go downtown for 9 pesos one way per person. Nice and handy with lots of stops along the route in various areas including the gold zone, downtown along the beachfront boardwalk and then to the market. We got off at the beach front boardwalk stop as we are not market people.
Our biggest disappointment with the Sea Garden, the extra charges. If you want to use the internet, 21 pesos for 1/2 hour. If you want to use the pool table or ping pong table, 50 pesos for 1 hour to use tired tables with bad lighting. If you want to use the balcony table and chairs overlooking the beach, instead of laying on the beach chairs to watch the waves, you have to wait for the sales pitch staff to be done their day. We won't hurry back.

I travelled with 2 friends to the Grand Mayan (Sea Garden)-Mazatlan. My friend is a timeshare owner who bought in Cabo. We arrived to a room with mold on the furniture, intermittent air conditioning, soggy floors, billing mistakes, and a broken elevator (not very convenient when you are on the 11th floor). The wait staff at the restaurant and pool we lovely, and so were the chambermaids. I was incredibly disapointed with the room, the service desk staff and the pushy sales staff. The numerous sales staff were trying to force my friend to call her husband to upgrade-eventhough he was unavailable. Although I loved the company, sand, pool and ocean...I will never go back to this hotel. It was those who upgraded were treated with respect and care. We were not treated well-I feel from my friend who has spent a great deal of money on a timeshare that would treat their members with such disregard and apathy.

Do not stay at this resort. Do not buy into the Mayan Palace time share unless you are prepared. Do you homework. What they say they are selling isn't what they are selling. They will rip you off, lie, false advertise, and even bully you to get their way. Never have I been treated as disrespectfully as I have here. Maybe becauses I am a woman...but please, the rooms are moldy...the bird poo on the patio will not get washed no matter how many times you ask.
Be Very Careful.

We had a wonderful time here.
The service was very good. The room was a cut above. The pool was great.
The location was a bit far from downtown Mazatlan, but it gave us a real cultural experience to ride the busses. That became a big part of enjoying this trip.
The bus rides were easy, they clearly identify the various bus routes and they were inexpensive.
The staff was very helpful.
At this location the beach was nice, but we really couldn't wade out or swim here. We did see a few people try, but most people just enjoyed the ocean from the beach.

Stayed for two weeks on time share but rooms were the problem. Advised time share there would be 5 adults and they insisted 2 bedrooms would be more than adequate. Front desk advised that this was not the case and for 3rd bedroom. I had to fork over $300.00 upfront. Sounds like time share co. has no idea what the rooms consist of and guess. Bad idea and lousy start. Pictures on brochure definitely not up to date.

After checking in we went to our room. We needed to go the bathroom. When we flushed the toliet black water with bits of something filled the toliet. We flushed the toliet about 12 times and it started to turn dark grey. I went to the kitchen sink and turn on the water and it was a dirty dark grey. I went to the front desk and told them what had happen and they assigned me another room. They didn't seem concerned about it at all. I was very angry about the way the room was and their lack of concern. Later after we got settled in around 7pm we went to the main resturant to have a small snack. A cup of coffee, orange juice and two pieces of cake. Their were only about 15 people their at the time. It took about 10 minutes to get our coffee and juice. After about another 14 minutes ( I timed it) we still did not have the cake so I stopped a waiter and told him that we had been waithing approx 30 minutes for the cake. Another 5 minutes went buy and I finally stood up and very loudly asked for a head waiter. A different man came and asked what was the problem and I explained that the coffee was cold and the ice in the juice was melted and we still haven't seen our cake. About a minute later he brought the cake back with new jucie and coffee. I told him at that time their would be no tips and that I would write up a bad review which he didn't seem to care. We decided to give it one more chance by going to the shrimp buffett dinner a few night later. The only problem is that you only get three shrimp that were frozen not fresh but we did get to eat all the salad and other items. No where was it stated that you would only get three shrimp. Usually when someone says buffett that means all you can ean. Also in Mazatlan its main industry is shrimping you would expect fresh shimp. Also when I made the reservation I could not get the dates I wanted but upon arrival one building was closed which some of the staff said it was because of lack of business and others said it was being upgraded. Talking to the bell boy the had 15 bell boys and now only have 5. Also their were very few people at the resort and I still cant figure why I could get the dates I wanted so as to spend our wedding aniversity there. The hotel is run down and the furniture is susposed to be changed every 5 years but they havent been change. Couches were soiled and where the nail, staples or screws were in the couches and chairs they were all rusted. We also go charged upon checking our for water bottles we didnt use. I thought the house maid had taken them out because we bought 2 gal jugs of was from a store because we were worried about drinking the water. I could go on with another dozen things that made the resort a two star or worst.
