definitely walkable and the restaurants are pretty good. Make sure you get to see the Old Mazatlan square. Just be aware when walking down some of the side streets. They seem questionable but we did not have any problems

Lots to see. A good variety of shops and eateries. Just watch your step as the sidewalks aren't consistent. The artwalk Fridays are the best.

I've been going to Mazatlan since 1981… now, when I go, I almost NEVER enter "the gold Zone"..the tourist area north, which is fine if you want Carlos & Charlie's, Blockbuster, and Burger King. the restaurants and night life in Old Mazatlan are great, the architecture and restaurants are the best. Fine hotels, from $25 to $250. if you need more beach, go to Stone Island (Isla de Piedras), the best beach and best kept secret. Eating right on the Plaza Machado or Olas Altas is great and TERTULLIA bar is the best hang. I now property now in Mazatlan, and go as often as I can. You'll fall in love with Mazatlan.

When you go to Mazatlan, be sure to go down into Old Mazatlan. The Catholic Church is just beautiful to see. They have done a great job in bringing the church back to original. It is a must see... Go to the Central Market and see how the locals shop. Very interesting Stop by the square for good restaurants. Go to the Peralta Theatre. You can't go to Mazatlan unless you go downtown....

We might have enjoyed this more if our kids were older and it was not a scorching hot and humid day in July. The area is nice to walk through and some of the buildings are pretty neat. As another reviewer pointed out there are areas that are better maintained than others and you do need to watch where you are walking. If you are going to shop in the old market you really should have at least a moderate level of Spanish language skill. We have found that the days of great bargain hunting are over and most of the vendors will charge you based on your nationality not on the worth of their goods. I have learned that locals can always get things cheaper, so we found the things that we wanted, took pictures of them and bargained to our best price, but did not buy them. We then had a local that we met at the resort buy them for us a few days later. She got them way cheaper than our best bargain, we got lots of nice gifts, and we saved a lot of money.
