We had a 20 year time share with El Cid Mazatlan and we had not used it in over 10 years. We arrived and they told us we were five days late and only had two days left, unless we paid $3,000 for and upgrade package, and then they should be able to accomodate us. We decided we would not be strong armed, so they kicked us out. During the two days we had, we went to a Kiosk down the street, went online and found this Pueblo Bonito. Man, did we get lucky. This was one of the best 5 day vacations we ever had. The Jr. Suite was XLNT and the place was so serene and beautiful. They are not close to the main resorts in Maxatlan, but they do have regular complimentary shuttles to their less intimate resort where all the action is. The only issue was two times at the same restaurant, we had some issues and the attitude of the wait staff and management was less than desired. Overall, this really is an awesome place and although it is a family friendly place, the atmosphere is so high end, even the kids act like adults, for the most part. One of the disadvantages of a more remote place is that you can feel like a captive audience and it can be easy to let a minor issue overwhelm overall experience. Nothing is ever perfect, and if you keep this is mind, you will never be disappointed with this place. I long to go back.

Room Tip: The Jr. suites had balconies you could open up to sit out on, where the King Suites did not. They ha...

Visited with my wife and son and loved it so much that we're definitely going back. We stayed in a junior suite on the 4th floor.

We were initially concerned about the fact that the resort is so big, but we ended loving the extra space, it just never felt crowded, yet if you wanted to be around people you could just hang out by one of the pools. We used the free shuttle to the sister resort quite a few times to explore the town and also to go swim in the ocean. In terms of guests it seemed like the Emerald Bay property had lots of families with young kids, while the Mazatlan one seemed to have more teenagers and students.

We did sit through the timeshare presentation, but even here we were pleasantly surprised - we were done in under 2 hours and they didn't bring out 2 or 3 "managers" to try to convince us!

All the staff we encountered were very friendly and eager to help, we met one or 2 people who struggled a bit to speak English, but that was not a big deal to us.

We did not buy the meal plan, in stead we bought groceries at the Mega in town. We had one very nice meal at the Bistro, if we knew how nice it was we would've gone there more often. The Deli seemed to have every thing we needed (if we forgot to get it at the Mega) and they don't mind if you just sit there for a while for the free internet.

Overall we had a great experience and if we weren't so keen to see different parts of the world we probably would've signed up for a timeshare there.

Room Tip: Higher floors have better views.

Arriving at the hotel, we got the room immediately. The room is well-equipped for the needs of the average vacationist, with a small kitchen.
All-round, I would have expected more from a five-star awarded hotel. Much more.

Positive:
-Great service (with a few exceptions) from all the staff
-Great food at the restaurant (Cordeliere)
-Huge pool plus two other, smaller pools
-All rooms with sea view
-Free shuttle bus
-Wonderful sunsets (but that's just Mazatlan ;-)

Negative:
-When we put the chairs on the grass, we were told to move them by a rude staff
-Very expensive food, crappy hamburger (room service)
-Even though the pools are big, the main pool can get a bit crowded.
-Only four small windows per room, bedroom has no window to the sea.
-Several times the shuttle bus was overbooked, so people had to be left for the next bus, one hour later.
-Beach has many rocks, the waves are rough.
-The TV-"box" hadn't been cleaned for weeks, it had a thick layer of dust.
-The shower is built in such a way that is wastes water.
-Internet everywhere - for $12 per day. Free internet was crowded and slow, only in a small area around the deli.

There were probably more positive things, but I remember the negative better.

I must say that my daughter and I loved this resort, however, it did catch my attention that a lemonade ordered by the pool was 50 pesos, while a negra modelo beer was 45 pesos! None of the waiters were able to explain that to me; nor could the people at the front desk. It was even harder for them to explain it when I told them I found out in a menu that lemonades were 20 pesos each! I really think someone should make sure lemonades are sold at a reasonable price.
Other than that, the place is wonderful and I had a great week there.

I loved this beautiful resort. Great beach although we never could swim in the ocean due to warning signs. Awesome eternity pool...staff bent over backwards to be helpful. Room was sufficient...clean, small galley kitchen. Took a catamaran trip out snorkeling & kayaking. Can't recall the name but resort recommended them. It was highlight of the trip. Short shuttle into town but mostly stayed at this beautiful resort.

Room Tip: Not a bad room at this resort...all face the ocean with a small balcony.

We have made this beautiful, gracious place our second home on several occasions and it just gets better and better. If you are fortune enough to stay in a Villa, be sure to find out about the All-Inclusive Option, which was priced at $79 per day for all food and drinks. But beyond the cuisine, there's endless sunshine, gentle breezes and the deep azure of the ocean awaiting you. I especially recommend this resort to those who seldom take vacations but need to finally get away from the hustle and bustle of the states and just relax. If you have children, there are at least two pools they can play in and plenty of activities. If you are a couple, this is one of the most romantic escapes in Mexico. If you are alone, you will find others who want company. Also, do NOT MISS the sunset at the Pueblo Bonito resort downtown, where you can eat the freshest shrimp as you watch the sun fall slowly into the ocean. Perfection!

Room Tip: All of the rooms are wonderful but the corner rooms are best. If you are fussy about noise from the...

My wife and I were fortunate to be able to stay at this wonderful place. The grounds were well maintained beyond perfection, staff made sure you were not without, and a beach to die for. We spent our pre-anniversary in the spa for two. First class spa from the start to finish. This is not a cheap place, but it is well worth it by far. This is the place for lover who want to have the very best, including the pool, and beach. The restaurants for breakfast was a must.

Room Tip: Any room off ground floor
