First, I'd like to say that my guests and I thoroughly enjoyed our time at Torres Mazatlan, and would go there again.

Pros: People, people, people. I can't say enough good things about the staff. Security, Front Desk, Restaurant, and Bell were all so friendly and helpful! I've never been anywhere and experienced such warmth. I agree with the reviews that the location felt safe. It's away from the main area of town, but only a quick pulmonia or taxi ride away. We rented a car, and it was a piece of cake getting anywhere we wanted, but that's another story.

Cons: Internet was expensive ($5/day) and unreliable. I ended up buying a prepaid Telcel (cellular) USB stick, which I used for the remainder of my trip. There are no in-room washer or dryer, and the shared laundry is expensive (25 pesos to wash, 25 pesos to dry, or about $4 USD per load) And since the dryers only worked about half the time, this was doubly frustrating. I mention these two things because many of the nicer timeshare-ish resorts I've stayed at have in-room (free) washer and dryer, and free, fast, reliable Internet.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the recently-renovated rooms. Maybe take a walk and see where the construction noise...

Only a bus ride away from the Golden Zone & old town. Really easy to get around! Staff are helpful friendly and have been there for a long time!
Releasing of the sea turtles at Torres was awesome! Find out from the front desk when this is happening! It's a must!
Internet-It's slow at Torres and is 25 pesos for 1/2 hour. If you want free internet, check out Looney Bean coffee in Cerritos. Great coffee and staff! Great to buy coffee there for the time you are at Torres to use in your coffee maker!
2 Bedroom Family-Nice and newly remodeled in unit B. If you have children, I would recommend a unit on the 1st floor. The deck railings are shorter than US standard and the screens in the window open up to the outside.
Penthouse-Very nice/Hot tub & BBQ on deck. 4,000 square feet! Great kitchen for enertaining!
Bugs-Pack bug spray-They come out at dusk!
VI Update-If you go you'll get free breakfast (Try to go on Sunday-Better food-Good buffet-You'll get discount coupons to use plus discounts on tours and the restaurant at Torres.
Bus-The pesos seem to change on us daily. Be prepared for 6.5-8 pesos for the regular bus They'll give you change. You need to flag them down almost anywhere if you want them to pick you up. The same goes for getting off the bus, you'll need to stand by the driver and let them know you want to get off the bus.
Bank-Had no problem using the ATM at the banks in the Golden Zone. No problem cashing american $ or travelers checks at the hotel front desk-
Grocery Stores-Soriana & Mega were my favorites. Make sure and tip the one that's bagging your groceries. The groceries at Torres are higher than the grocery store in town.
Fish & Shrimp-We found fresh fish & shrimp in the grocery stores. The man that sells right on the beach at Torres wasn't as fresh and was more expensive. Shrimp market is fresh too!

Room Tip: 2 Bedroom Family-Nice and newly remodeled in unit B. If you have children, I would recommend a unit...

the resort is away from the downtown core but a 10 minute bus ride is very easy and safe. The resort is clean, well maintained, and at a beautiful section of beach.

2 bedroom 2 bath with murphy bed in building D room 206:
Beautiful unit with full kitchen, microwave, stove, oven, fridge, dishwasher, dishes, blender, toaster, flatware and plenty of kitchen supplies. No spices, cooking spray or basic ingredients are provided, probably for sanitary reasons. Basics are available for purchase at the convenience store on the property.

The bathrooms are spacious and have plenty of towels, soap, tp, and hair dryer but no shampoo. Bedrooms are very nice, hace plenty of hangars and each room has a large dresser with 6 drawers. The beds are very firm but also comfortable, best for those who sleep on their back. Bedrooms are facing the rear of the building and have no ocean view. All rooms have both AC and ceiling fans.
We did not try the Murphy bed, so I can't say if it was comfortable or not.

Our unit was very quiet and we did not hear another guests from other rooms.

Living room and Kitchen: beautiful view of the pool and ocean.
have AC and ceiling fans. The dining room table seats 4 and breakfast bar has an additional 3 stools. The couch Is very uncomfortable to sit on for long periods of time but look very nIce.

DVDs. There is a tv and DVD player in the living room Bring your own DVDs from home just in case you get a day of bad weather.

Laundry Room: there are 4 coin operated washers and dryers in a central laundry room You can purchase laundry detergent at the convenience store in the resort or at a grocery store nearby.
There is a laundry basket in each room to use for your stay. There is an iron and ironing board in our room. On the patio/balcony there is a clothes drying rack if you prefer to hang dry your clothes.

La Palapa, resort restaurant: great service, ask for ishmael and Paco, they are friendly servers. Great menu selection, prepared nicely and safe ( no food poisoning).
You can purchase fresh caught fish from the fisherman on the beach and the restaurant la palapa will prepare and cook the fish for you at a very reasonable price. Happy Hour drinks are a must.

Pool and jacuzzi: the pool is a warm temperature but still refreshing. There is a small kiddy pool for the little ones. The jacuzzi is very nice.

Beach in front of the hotel. If you want your pool chair brought onto the beach there are several staff member that will help you carry the chair and get set up on the sand.

There are many fun outside excursions which can be set up through the hotel. I recommend the city tour, 2.5 hour ATV tour and possibly the country tour (but have not been there yet). The Stone island tour was terrible and we got food poisoning from the lunch that was included on the tour. Stone Island was dirty, lots of flies and Mosquitos, the activities were not fun and there were a lot of vendors hastling you to buy junk from them. Stay away from stone island.

Restaurants. Casa Loma is a fancy restaurant that has amazing food and is not too expensive. It is easiest to take a taxi there from the resort. Have the front desk arrange your reservations for casa Loma. My favorite entree is the almond crusted fish or seafood enchilada.

There are amazing restaurants in the plaza in old town. Can't remember the names.

Joes oyster bar is the party spot for young people but it also seems a but wild with the drugs and alcohol.

I understand there is a Costco and several grocery stores in the area. Walmart is a bad idea. No selection and very small.

Have a great trip And leave your tips as well so that when we return next year we know good places to go.

This was our second visit to this great resort. We are VI owners, but used a Groupon for this trip. The Groupon deal was for 10 days in a one bedroom for $600 (which included a $50 restaurant credit, a bottle of wine and two movie rentals). We arrived on a Sunday and were assigned a room on the 1st floor of Tower C. The bedroom was near the elevator and we were awakened twice that night around 2:30 am & 3:00 am by loud/rude guests. We requested a move the next morning, but they could not accommodate it until Tuesday (but they did waive the $100 cleaning fee). We moved to the 4th floor, which was a big improvement. Pros: The weather was FANTASTIC, with highs in the mid 80s with not too much humidity. We recognized several staff from our previous visit (Rudolfo, Paco, Ismael, Mario). The customer service was EXCELLENT, especially in the on site restaurant. The grounds were immaculate, and the pool was spotless. We saw dolphins on a couple of days, and on one day they were no more than 50 yards from the beach. The surf seemed less rough than the previous year and the tide had receded a bit, which allowed a little more beach area. The on site gym is adequate. Cons: Beds are uncomfortable. This is the slow season so there is quite a bit of maintenance going on, including the renovations to Tower B. There was one night when someone was working with a sledgehammer on a walkway near the restaurant at 11 pm (!) at night. Wifi was difficult to connect to, and when you could connect the download speeds are slow. Half of the jets in the hot tub were not working.

We can't wait to return next year!

This gem is just North of the new marina (Cerritos). Large grounds, big pool (clean too), excellent bar and restaurant and (of course) awe inspiring hospitality by staff.

Staff run activities for kids & grown ups alike throughout the day. All units are condos with kitchens but with the bar and restaurant prices are so reasonable, who needs to cook. Market (with good prices) is on-site and for guests only.

Go, enjoy, take the kids and relax!

The 2 bedroom family size oceanfront units in building A are spacious and have the master bedroom facing the ocean. Building C and D have been renovated, they face the pool with some view of the ocean. Building B is under renovation but there is no noise. The beach is nice to take walks. I did not dare to swim as the waves are big and there can be undercurrent. At this time of the year it is possible to see turtles come out of the water to deposit their eggs or to experience the release of 500 little turtles transported from the nearby aquarium and help them along their way to the water right from that beach. The resort staff is very nice and friendly. Security is great. Food is great. Free wifi connection is mainly at the courtyard by the reception. Linen and towels are changed once a week. You need to have your own shampoo and conditioner. Complimentary purified water is at the pool. To go to town you can either take local buses or a white "pulmonia" which look like golf carts that can charge 70-100 pesos.

Room Tip: If you do not mind the sound of the waves, get an oceanfront room in building A.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Torres Mazatlan. The resort was great - spacious room, good size kitchen and bath, good food in the restaurant, great family activities, nice pool and pool area, great beach, and wonderful staff. The staff were very helpful with tours, calling for taxis, and all questions that we had. The location of the resort was in a safe area of Mazatlan. We would definitely staff at the Torres again.
