“Great place to relax”
Reviewed December 5, 2011

Our stay at the El Cid Marina was really great. We are specially happy for the service provided to us by their excellent staff. Jorge Sandejas made sure that our stay is memorable and true to his word attended to all our needs. I can't say anything bad about their servers especially to the supervisor of La Marina Restaurant, Francisco beltran and the other Franciso, there's Mario and a lot other servers that are all great very friendly and welcoming. The only hiccup we encountered was at the Spa where the lady receptionist probably did not really understand my request so I have to ask Jorge to take care of it and he did! Really enjoyed our stay there.

We have been going to El Cid Marina for over 10 years and love the location and setting. However, the units are starting to "age gracefully". We wish we had been in a newly remodelled unit and could have given El Cid Marina a better rating, especially as we are owners here. Our unit was 2 bedroom corner unit on top floor of a four storey building with great views up to Playa Bruja, the pool and marina so absolutely no complaints about that. However, considering the competition around, the unit needs fixing FAST. The cushions in the living area were quite nastily stained and the bathrooms were ok but with stained toilet bowls. Also not many places to hang towels or robes.
The kitchen was disappointing with an old rusty 2 burner hot plate, the fridge was small, the door did not close properly and was not level and the freezer compartment did not close properly either so we kept getting a buildup of ice. The utensils are pitiful... I always take my own cooks knife and paring knife now. The kitchen counter was of cracked tiles many had lost their grouting.
But if you can ignore all that... it is a lovely resort, away from the madding crowd, but easy to get to downtown or the golden zone by shuttle or bus. There is always something to watch - the fishing boats coming into the marina with their catch is fun, and while we were there a Dorado Fishing Tournament, and an International Golf Tournament were being hosted by El Cid.
For great coffee - take the shuttle bus to El Moro and go to Rico's!
The staff are wonderful, so many have been around for a long time - Victoria in the restaurant for over 25 years - so warm and friendly. The Iguana pool staff are great too - Rodolfo, Eddy and Fidel.
However they all seem to be looking tired - I think they work very long shifts. A concern was the use of styrofoam cups around the pool - not very ecofriendly. The next resort we stayed at had plastic cups which were a lot nicer to drink out of - especially wine.
El Cid Marina is a favourite spot for weddings - with the beautiful sunsets and settings, and they are lovely to watch - sometimes the music is loud but that is ok - it is fun to sit and listen to it and it is always over by 10.30 p.m.
Don't worry we will be back - especially for the Sunday Champagne brunch.

Room Tip: Ask for a remodelled unit.

We value a lot constructive criticism due to it allows us to measure the level of satisfaction of our guests in regards to our service and product. I take the opportunity to share with you that during this year, we have completely renovated 109 rooms, and we still continue with this renovation process until update all of the rooms, besides those improvements in rooms, I would like to mention as well, improvements that have been done in grounds, for example, restrooms by the Calypso pool and the Beach Club were updated, all this with the only goal of making our guest feel comfortable in our property, we are a company that is aware that the only way to survive in business is improving its product.

I will appreciate if for your next visit you can contact me directly to assign you one of our updated rooms, I would like to know your impression of these changes in rooms, and again thanks for your valuable feedback and loyalty.

Enjoyed 10 wonderful days in Mazatlan, our first time there, El Cid Marina was absolutely fantastic. Have been to many larger resorts in Mexico but the service here was beyond our expectations. Upon arrival we were greeted by Rafael (extremely charming), check-in was a breeze, everything was ready for us. Rafael escorted us to our room and gave us info for our stay. Our room was large and clean with a view of the ocean. Of all our meals I really enjoyed breakfast and lunch the best. Every morning Francisco was very attentive to my coffee needs. We ate all our lunches poolside where all your meals are prepared fresh, and I have to say we have never had such a wonderful group of people attend to our comfort...Raul the bartender is great, even at his bussiest times was always curtious and delivered with a smile. Luis and Angel served our lunches each day and went out of their way to appease our appitite. Finally, our cook Manuel, I don't think we could have gotten fresher, tastier or a nicer presentation of our meals at one of our seven star restaurants at home. We will definately return next year.

This was our 4th trip to Mazatlan, but this was our first visit to this resort. It definitely won’t be our last visit here, the service was exceptional.

Staff/Service: ALL staff made us feel welcome and provided very gracious Mexican hospitality that we so enjoy. We especially liked the main pool where Miguel was our server. He remembered us after our 2nd visit to the pool and was so friendly and accommodating. They provided free transportation from airport, but it is their opportunity to pitch a timeshare presentation. It wasn’t a high pressure push to attend though. They also provide free shuttle service to their sister El Cid resorts in the Golden Zone and shuttles run very frequently.

Resort grounds, pools and amenities: Two pools; one heated and one was not. There is a convenience store onsite with the necessary essentials that we needed. The prices at the convenience store were pretty good too, (especially if you factor in a cab fare to go to a Mega store). There is also a spa, couple restaurants, bar and a couple of boutiques on site. They have a water taxi that takes you to a private beach. There are several planned activities, and you have access to all of the amenities at the sister El Cid resorts.

Units. Before we left for Mazatlan, I emailed the resort with a request for ocean view, and they were very responsive in answering my email and granting the request. We were in Unit 604 which is one of the end buildings overlooking the ocean. The unit was a spacious 1 bdrm/1bath unit with a nice ocean view. The rooms had recently been updated with new furnishings. It was very functional and everything worked well. The unit had two small balconies overlooking the ocean; one off the living room and one off the bedroom. We enjoyed watching the sunset from our balcony a few nights. The sofas were the most comfortable we've sat on in Mexico (and we’ve visited about 20 resorts around Mexico). The bedroom had a comfortable King size bed. There was no dishwasher in the kitchen. The unit had two TV’s, but we only watched the one in the living room. It was a fairly good size flat screen TV with HD and several American channels.

Location. We like the location of Marina El Cid. It is easy access to the more busy Golden Zone or downtown, via bus that stops in front of the resort, but you can get away from this in the evenings for a little more quiet evenings. They also provide a free shuttle that takes you to the other El Cid resorts, which is about a 5 minute ride. It’s a 10-15 minute walk to many restaurants outside the resort, as well as a couple convenience stores. On past trips, we stayed directly in the Golden Zone, and found it pretty noisy, so we prefer Marina El Cid.

We spent our first week at Marina El Cid and 2nd week at Pueblo Bonito Emerald Bay. Although Pueblo Bonito Emerald Bay is more ‘glitsy’, we liked Marina El Cid better for service and location.

The lovely, bubbly, & very efficient Olivia Vasquez; Fidel; Rodolfo; Edy; Armando; Isreal; Freddy...and so many others take such good care of us. We see improvements & upgrades to the rooms & grounds every year. It is always superbly maintained. 11 months & counting until we see you again!

Room Tip: There is not a bad room. It's just a matter of choice.

Beautiful location w/ awesome staff and great amenities. Poker nights, water volleyball, and the unofficial daily iguana feeding all help to make this place a unique place to stay. Just ask for Juli, Maritza, Jonathan, or Miguel when you're at the pool and look for Jaime at the poker table (they'll take good care of you).

Room Tip: Lots of renovations going on, so ask to be located away from it if you plan on partaking in afternoo...
