“Gorgeous view of Mazatlan, and a great hike!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 17, 2014

We walked from the Centro area, at our hotel, through the city and to Playa Olas Altas and then followed the Malecon around toward the south of that beach and on around to the next. You will eventually follow the seacliff to the marina area where there are taxis to get to Stone Island. Follow the causeway/road til you get to the sewer treatment plant (sorry, but that's where it is) and just past it turn right into the gate. There is a sign but its tilted and hard to find saying this is the entrance to El Faro. Follow the trail up and over the rough washed out dirt road until you get to the staircase. There are iguanas in the foliage and loads of cactus and plants. The view is incredible, and so worth it. Be sure to take water along, especially on warm days as it is a long hike. The lighthouse keeper sells water but I am not sure of the hours.

“The climb”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 3, 2014

the view is wonderful but it is a serious hike up the hill if not in shape...takes 35 to 40 minutes and take lots of water...no bathroom at the top

“Great view from the Lighthouse onto the city below”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 1, 2014

I found the hike a bit challenging being that I am not used to hiking up steep hills. It is a long way to the top. It is best to make the trip early in the morning to avoid getting over heated and bring water. Although there is water for purchasing at the Lighthouse once you make it up to the top. The climb is not for someone with a heart condition. the view is awesome from the top overlooking the city. Good Luck!

“Bring plenty to drink.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 29, 2013

The trail was not well maintained so bring good shoes. My husband went off the main trail and took a small side trail to reach the top but he ended up quite high and at the edge of the cliff with rocks and ocean way down below. This trail was unmarked with no warning. Good grief! thank god he was not day dreaming. He could have been killed. STAY on the main trail!!! Also, beware of taxy drivers offering you a 20 pesos for straight exchange of a $20 Canadian or American bill. The small snack booth below only takes pesos. As of today it is about 11 pesos per CND and 12 pesos American. A good little hike.
