During our 4 week stay in Mazatlan, we visited Stone Island twice and plan a third trip. Everyone and their perro sells the tour (we paid $36 US first time) but the going price should be about $25 US. There are numerous tours and beach side restaurants. We really like Jorge Barrios (Cel 6699296781), he's a great guide and works hard to see his guests are happy. The standard tour includes a boat ride on the ocean, then activities & lunch on the beach. A fabulous time especially for the price! Did I mention, all you can drink bar?

I am so glad we finally took the time to go over to Stone Island! The ferry ride (including the wait time) was perhaps 5 minutes. We disembarked, and just followed all the vendors who had been on the ferry with us! We walked to Lety's, grabbed some lounge chairs and kicked off the flip-flops! Ordered a few cervesas and sat back to people (and vendor) watch! All in all, it was a very peaceful way to spend a Saturday afternoon! When we walked back to the ferry, quite a few of the restaurants were full of folks enjoying their day.

Rather than take a tour or the little ferry, we drove to Isla de Piedras. You can take a short 30 peso ride by ferry from Marine 6 in Playa Sur or a 40 mile drive passing the airport and Estella del Mar with the last 10 miles dirt road through palm plantations. It's a small quiet town with any number of restaurants along a pretty tranquil beach. Pure relaxation or other activities if you prefer. A great day trip.

I thought the boat trip was enjoyable the crew was nice and the scenic islands and caves were cool. Stone Island had amazing beach and I enjoyed the tractor ride through the small town. The bad, we did the snorkling and horse back riding, the snorkling would have been ok for very small kids, they took us to a small beach inside a little cove. the water was very murky the sandy bottom was void of life we lasted about 10 min then asked to go back. The beach was good for small kids to splash around on and there were many doing just that, not a good place for teens snorkling. The horse back ride I found unsettling, the reins had rubbed soars through the horses neck, and they continued to rub in that area, flies and bugs were all over the soars and I am sure it was not feeling to good on the horse. The horses were very thin, hot and tired, I would like to see the horses get some time off to heal and possibly gain a few pounds. The bathrooms were very clean, the staff was very nice and the Beach were awesome.
