“Our stay at the Karima Palace”

Wow! What a beautiful place! This was one of the nicest places we have ever stayed in Mexico.
The rooms were excellent and the food was great. Many different pools including a huge Jacuzzi pool and many restaurants to eat. Service was excellent as well.
We would go back here anytime!

Room Tip: Higher floors were nicer to stay in. Ground level floors seemed a little damp.

Our 2 week vacation was really very fantastic. There was 22-24 of us at any given time. All friends old and new. While we did have an issue with booking a la cart dinners. had to book each day in a ridiculus line up for what could equate to hours of wasted holiday time. We were all accommodated for two sit down dinners. Not all at one table but all in one area. And specific to Valentines day too. They tried real hard to accommodate. What we did learn was that if you were touring on a particular day, you were given ability to book an a la cart in advance. Hmmm.
Snorkeling at the resort was really fantastic. The amount of different fish, including a resident sea turtle, in the swimming Bay Area, was amazing and very photogenic. Enjoyed the walk about area of gardens, flowers and iguana's. close to local markets and shopping. Felt very safe, walked all over the place and enjoyed local food and beer. Locals seemed very happy to accommodate our group.

Room Tip: Higher levels gives you a better view. While we enjoy the trees, we were on the fourth floor and th...

This was the first time visiting Manzanillo, and my husband I have stayed at a number of Barcelo hotels in the Caribbean and Mayan the past 10 years. The hotel, the amenities, the staff, the food, the service, the tours, and of course the culture rated as one of our #1 top holidays we have taken.
We landed at the airport and the shuttle took us to the hotel. We were greeted with a welcome drink, the check in was quick, and our luggage made it to our room very quickly. The room was gigantic, and the bathroom with his and her sinks on opposite sides, as well as a central tub was very, very large. We were on the 3rd floor, getting around the complex was very easy, the staff were knowledgeable and polite - i cannot gush enough of how exceptional this property was. The buffet meals and the a la carte restaurants were also very beautiful - and how better could I have spent a holiday with my husband. This is definitely a resort I would visit again!

Room Tip: All the rooms face into the middle of the complex with the pools - we were in the junior suite, and...

A group of just over 20 of us went to this resort for my daughter's wedding. Wow! What a place. I loved the food, the live night shows. I also enjoyed the sea turtle tour. Others went on the zip line and loved it. An awesome resort! I really miss it. I would go back in a second. The only issue I had was their Wifi was not working but I presume they would have it fixed by now. Us Canucks have to have our Wifi. Lol.

We have stayed at the Karmina Palace four times now and each time we are in mexico for the winter always find time to spend a few days there,
The service, accomodations and all the things which make a holiday perfect are there-the
staff very friendly and more than willing to accede to any request the guest may have.
I completely recommend the resort..

Room Tip: Higher rooms have less A/C unit noise

This hotel seems to be a vacation spot for Mexican Nationals. The beach is small and limited. The food is not great and you have to reserve a restaurant the day prior to dining. We had an all inclusive package but felt it was not worth it. I would only recommend this place to people who are from Mexico with families.

The resort tried to RIP US OFF!
The Room: When we checked in they didn’t have a room assigned to us, so they gave us what was available....we ended up with a room that had a beautiful view of the resort and the ocean and was close to everything, BUT it was two double beds and there was an ashtray in the room. We are a married couple and wanted a queen/king bed, plus I prefer non-smoking room. When we went to the desk to see about a different room they want $350.00 extra to give us a room with a king bed and a view of the ocean. We talked to our travel rep and she was able to get us the room for $112.00 extra. I wished we would have looked at the room first before accepting it. The new room was at the back of the resort by the parking lot, far from everywhere and on the same floor as our 1st room, overlooking the golf course and yes, you could see the ocean from this room too. This new room was NOT WORTH the extra money we paid. We actually considered it a DOWN GRAD from the other room. We should have saved our money and just cuddled more. Once I got home I was even more upset about spending the extra money when I was able to find the same rooms on the internet a difference of $50/week.

The room was very clean. The bathrooms are very large, but we always had tiny bugs running around on our sinks. The toilet leaked across the floor every day. We asked for it to be fixed the first day and by the second last day, they finally fixed it. I found this odd, because the resort was always receiving some kind of maintenance.
We were on the 4th floor and we could hear the people above us walk around (every morning at 7:30am), go to the bathroom (at 4am) and they liked to move the furniture around and when she wore heels that was the worst.

We only received a towel animal on our last day. The bar fridge was stocked each day with 4 beer max, water (because you are not to drink the water in the room) 1 bag of chips and 2 small bags of peanuts, plus pop. They have coffee, no tea in the room.

Peso is the currency of choice. Hotel does not offer a good exchange rate. Get your peso before you leave home.
BEWARE of the exchange rate when using your credit card to purchase excursions at the hotel with the Transat Holiday rep. If possible, pay for your excursions with Canadian money, they take it at par, but if you use your credit card they charge you more Canadian money for it. Why, I have no idea. They charged me $12 more because I used my credit card. But yet when I was at Wal-mart getting my alcohol, my credit card was charged LESS than the receipt. Something is wrong with that. I exchanged Canadian and US currency at the same time; I was given more pesos for my Canadian money than my US money.

BRING LOTS OF SUNSCREEN...... It is very expensive at the store in the resort. A coffee mug was $18 and $17.00 for 118 grams of suntan lotion (that was the cheapest one) or $27.00 for a larger size.

There were no vendors on the beach, which was nice. The whole time we were there we were never bothered by a vendor. That is a big positive.
The Resort: Is beautiful and seems to cater to locales over tourists. We kind of felt that tipping was a requirement to receive what we considered to be good service.

The resort could use a coffee/cappuccino bar. We are use to grabbing a coffee and sitting in the wifi area and chatting with our family and friends. The Wifi area was in the lobby/panio bar area. That is where a coffee bar would be nice.

The drinks were great but bring a mug, the washing of the glasses at the bar is lacking. The pools are clean and the beach is nice but small. Bring swimming shoes in case you encounter a sea urchent. Never had a problem finding a beach chair, but you do need to be early for an umbrella.
The buffet was very good. I always found lots to eat and so did my finicky husband. The omelet grill is the best. I don’t remember her name, but WOW was she great. We just got back from another resort and they paled in comparison to the omelet chef at the Barcelo Kamina, she is the BEST ever!!!!!! The dinner chef was excellent too. The meals from the grill were always good. I actually preferred the buffet over the a la cartes. This is the best buffet we have had in all the resorts we have been to.
The A La Carte: You get three if you stay a week. But we only went twice. We found it wasn't worth the hassle of making the reservation. The Italian a la carte had an excellent ambience. Our table was in a very nice spot. The meal was good not great. The service was good. The Mexican one has a beautiful view and that is it. We were not pleased with the service or the choices of entrees. We found it difficult to get a coffee after our dinner at each a la carte. We also found that the reservation system they use to get into the a la carte was more work than the meal/experience was worth. That and if you had an excursion in the morning you were unable to stand in the long lineup for 10am to make your reservation. Therefore we never bothered with the last a la carte, it didn’t seem worth it.
We went Deep Sea fishing. The excursion was offered thru Transat. It was not what I was expecting. I wanted my own fishing rod and chair, but they had put out about 6 lines and when a line caught a fish the first person there got to reel it in. It was still fun until the beer and the ocean collided then I had to lay down....
We also went on an sunset catamaran ride and view whales. That was nice and relaxing, and we did see whales.
We walked to Wal-mart, it took about a half hour. (it is a LONG walk to get off the resort) I felt completely safe until we got in Wal-mart, their greeter is a armed guard with a rifle (welcome to Mexico Wal-mart). We were there to buy alcohol. I found that the Bailey is cheaper on the plane and if you pre-purchase for return flight, you don’t have to pack it in your suit case.
We went to a flea-market the cab ride was $50 peso each way. The flea-market was different from what we are use to. They never hounded us at all. It was nice to just take it all in.

Over all I would go back, now we know what to expect, and watch out for.

Room Tip: Try for the higher floors, we were on the 4th floor and we could hear the people above us walk aroun...
