“GOOD FACILITIES BAD SERVICE”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2012

The hotel's facilities including the rooms are very good, but the service everywhere is not good at all.

Tha staff things they are doing you a favor....and we are doing that for you!!!!!! It's a real shame because Mexico is all about good service.

If you don't care a lot about smiles and things like that the hotel is more than fine.

We are on our last day of a memorable 5 night 6 day trip. The hotel is gorgeous and the grounds immaculately manicured. Everything is spotless, and the staff very friendly and helpful. The General Manager, Luis Jiminez, made our stay comfortable and stress free. A first rate resort manager!!!!!

The food in general was very good. There are 3 theme restaurants. The Mexican restaurant has a magnificent view of the bay, the Capri, italian food, and the Kyoto, Japanese and Chinese food. I was not impressed with the Kyoto, having eaten Japanese food on many occasions, however the manager explained that it was more geared to the average local tastes, than to someone who really enjoys traditional Japanese food.
In spite of the main chef not being there for a couple of days, the food was still pretty good in his absence, in most cases.

Excellent value for the price, and definitely the best all inclusive we have experienced in Mexico. Especially the breakfasts, they were outstanding.

This is definitely a Mexican style resort, and while most of the staff speak English, being fluent in Spanish really does help if you have a problem.

We will definitely return, as soon as possible, and recommend this resort to friends and family. It's a short 3 hour drive on excellent roads for us, so an ideal spot for a romantic few days.

The only disappointment was poor internet service, which was not a problem for us, but might be for business travelers. In my opinion this should be a free service, and available in all rooms. Download bandwidth needs to be increased substantially for business travelers.

Most of the coupons ($200 U.S.), were for services such as the spa and beauty salon. We didn't use any of them. Possibly a change in policy would be a good idea. The spa prices were high in comparison with other spas in Mexico.

Room Tip: All Junior suites appear to be much the same from the photographs. Ocean View (premium) is more expe...

Our room was big and clean except that the AC was leaking water. We reported the problem and 3 days later was still leaking and much much worse. Our room had marble floors so it was very dangerous to walk around in the dark with water on the floor.

Also, the manager at AGABE restaurant denied us a table for being 15 minutes late when most of the restaurant was empty. After a few minutes of arguing we got a table. Good food and friendly waiting staff, except for manager. I would still recommend it.

Room Tip: The room we stayed was big and very nice. Shower and big tub, also 2 sinks on opposite sites of the...

From meeting us at airport, to arranging for our return there, Barcelo Karmina was wonderful!!! We have stayed at other all inclusives and thought they were the best, but now have changed our minds. Manzanillo is not known as US tourist destination, so the hotel and the city were not overcrowded with people, which was so much more relaxing for us. My husband found an American from his hometown of San Diego, working at the hotel so we were able to find out lots about the town and neighboring village. Our room was a suite with two tv's, huge king size bed, the bathroom has separate shower and tub, two sinks and is huge!!! We received complimentary gifts nightly from the hotel staff and also enjoyed the pool with huge "adults only" sections. The town of Manzanillo is not a tourist attraction with tons of bars and vendors and we really liked that, we were able to walk around the city without being hounded by vendors selling things.

Here’s the short version: Nice hotel, very helpful & attentive staff (except for those at the front desk!), somewhat disappointing beach.

My wife and I stayed at the Barcelo Karmina Palace Deluxe in Manzanillo, Mexico from September 1-8, 2012. We landed at Manzanillo International and took a taxi to the hotel (370 pesos). The bellhops did not greet us or really take care of our luggage. The people at the reception desk weren’t much friendlier. This is a shame because the bellhops and reception staff are really the face of the hotel and can set the tone for the whole visit. Fortunately, everyone else was great. The staff at the Bugambillias buffet were extremely attentive. Of special note were Vincente and Luisa. The day we arrived a big storm rolled in. We were eating on the covered patio and watched the rain move in across the bay until it started pounding the hotel . My wife and I, being from LA where we don’t get a lot of rain, loved the storm and remained outside on the patio while everyone else sought shelter inside. The canvas patio cover was overwhelmed by the rain and leaked everywhere. Through it all, Luisa stayed on the job and continued to take care of us.

The food quality was good. The buffet always had a station where a chef would prepare something to order – pasta one night, tacos the next, etc.

The hotel has several a la carte restaurants which are open on different nights. Reservations were easy to come by. We ate at “Agave”, a Mexican restaurant, and “Capri”, an Italian restaurant. Agave is in a great location out over the ocean. We had waves crashing on the rocks below us and a view of the sunset over Las Hadas across the bay. The food was good, but the service wasn’t up to par. We sat staring at our dirty plates for over 20 minutes between courses because the waiter/bus boy wouldn’t come clear the table. The second time we ate there was better, but still not the level of service I would expect. The food at Capri was also good. We did not try the Japanese restaurant.

If you are mainly a beer drinker you are probably going to be disappointed. The bars only have Sol and Indio on tap, and you get Tecate and Tecate Lite in the mini-bar in your room. The wines I tried were horrible, but I didn’t get anything off of the “premium” list that was not included with the all inclusive plan. Mixed drinks were pretty good.

Speaking of drinks, Daniel is a great bartender who speaks English.

The beach is “C” shaped (man made) and isn’t good for more than bobbing up and down in the water and relaxing in the sun. It’s a shame that a good portion of the “good” part of the beach is taken up by two boats that are tied up there. By the way, you can find cheaper sportfishing in a better boat by going to Manzanillo harbor and dealing with a captain directly. The beach is right next to the “snack bar” which has burgers, fries, hot dogs, nachos, etc all day long. The bar service at the beach is excellent!

The rooms were very nice just as shown on the website. Our “Garden View” room actually had an ocean view. The air conditioner worked well, the bed was comfortable and the linens of good quality. My only complaint is the TVs – they are old school CRTs, not flat screens. I would expect HD in a place billed as a 5-star hotel.

The hotel has a resident troupe of performers who give a nightly show. We gave it a try and were not at all impressed.

Room Tip: Ask about the upgrade to "Gold wristbands" - gets you an Ocean View room on 6th or 7th flo...

Very late review. We stayed at the Karmina From Dec 20-Dec 27,2011 we absolutely loved this place. The hotel and gorgeous grounds were beautiful, maintained very well. Rooms were huge, clean with massive bathrooms. The beach is small but who cares! the pools were great, cold but it is so hot during the day they were refreshing. The weather was incredible..hot 30 plus and sunny everyday. We stayed in the Mayan during Christmas of 2009 what a difference in the weather. The weather was much cooler on the Caribbean side. This a smaller resort in comparison to the Barcelo in the Mayan, but we loved the fact you could easily get around and always saw familiar faces. We enjoyed getting to know all of our Manitoba friends. The Sask people now how to party too! we enjoyed hanging out with you. The food at the buffet was good, could always find something. The specialty restaurants were very good loved the Japanese and Italian the best. The Christmas Eve dinner was very beautifully done. Drinks at this resort were awesome not watered down! always had great poolside service, We love you Sergio! you made our trip very memorable.Felt very safe in Manzanillo you could go walk into town and never felt uneasy. We are planning another trip at Christmas and would like to try another destination. But seriously, we all want to come back to Manzanillo, we are having a very hard time trying to pick another destination. We will come back here at some point probably sooner rather than later. Keep up the great service and hospitality. Thanks for the great memories.

Room Tip: I would not choose a room facing center of hotel very load disco at night. I would choose the other...
