“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

My husband and I spent a week in February at the Villa Blanca. I have nothing but good things to say about this hotel. It is small with a great location. You can walk everywhere and feel very safe doing so. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Please do not go there is you are expecting a 4 or 5 star hotel. The rooms are a bit dated but always clean. We stayed in a ground level room which was wonderful. We were able to have dinner one evening at our table outside our room. We found their food very good and reasonably priced.

Room Tip: I like the ground level rooms. You are able to sit outside your room by the pool and perhaps enjoy a...

We stayed here a few years ago and liked it very much. This time round we paid quite a bit more (it's still Easter holiday time) and the a/c wasn't as efficient as it could have been. But I like the ambiance, and the service is great. We occasionally drive down to Huatulco from Puerto Escondido and stay the night. Villa Blanca and the Misión de los Arcos are our favorites, especially the latter because we can walk easily to everything in La Crucecita.

Room Tip: There are new rooms in the back but we've only stayed in the front, which was fine. The rooms ar...

After spending 2 weeks at the Villa Blanca my husband and I will probably never stay at another all inclusive.
The Villa Blanca is a small charming hotel situated close to everything. You can walk anywhere anytime and feel very safe. You are in walking distance to many places or you can take a cab for $2.50. There is a grocery store called Super Che (just like a walmart) within a 5 min walk from the hotel.
The staff at the hotel are exceptional, they are all very helpful and very caring. Even though the staff speaks little English they go out of their way to try and understand. The manager Hugo is an amazing man, he is more than just a hotel manager. Hugo treats hotel guest better than I have seen in any other hotel. I have seen him be a manager, friend, and doctor to the hotel guests. This man will go out of his way to make you feel very welcome at the Villa Blanca.
The rooms are very comfortable and very clean, the maids do an amazing job. On our last night our maid made us a beautiful heart shaped swan with flowers. It was very thoughtful of her to do and we were very touched. If you stay at the Villa Blanca I would suggest getting a room without an adjoining room as you can here everything in the next room.
They have a very good breakfast buffet in the morning and if you don't see anything you like on it you can order off menu. But the variety was very good every morning so we had no complaints. The morning restaurant staff go out of their way to make sure you have what you need. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner as well and the food is really good and not to expensive.
We met allot of very nice people around the pool who we socialized with our whole time in Huatulco, I don't think we would have got to meet so many nice people at an all inclusive hotel.
We started out with some really helpful Sunwing staff our first week, a big thank you to James and Magdalena for always helping us find what we needed or were looking for. Unfortunately they were replace by 2 others the second week and they weren't as helpful or friendly.
We went to many of the beautiful beaches of Huatulco and they are were equally beautiful. We left with many happy memories from each place we visited.

There are some fabulous local places to eat in La Crucecita. The cost of a meal could run from $5.00 - $20.00. The food was always fresh and delicious, we never had a bad meal.

A big thank you to all the Villa Blanca staff for helping make our vacation wonderful.

We stayed at this hotel for a week. The hotel is very well situated in that it is only a 15 minute safe walk to either Santa Cruz or La Crucecita. It is centrally located for most activities and taxi fares to town were about $2.00. Taxi fares were very reasonable to any location from the hotel. The hotel amenities are basic but satisfactory. We had a second floor room which had two double beds (that are quite firm), a closet to hang up cloths, a bathroom and drawer storage for smaller items. The pool does require some upgrading but everyone still seemed to enjoy it. The only drawback to the room was that the balcony was virtually unusable due to its small size.
There are no cooking facilities in the rooms as the hotel has it's own restaurant with reasonably priced meals. Breakfast was included with our stay and the restaurant serves good food and the service is excellent. It is located on the main road leading to the above locations but we were never bothered by the noise. Our room however was at the back of the hotel and not overlooking the street. There is a Super Che only a few blocks away if one wants of buy some snacks.
During our stay the resort consisted of 2/3 Canadians from both western and eastern Canada and the rest local Mexicans on vacation. It is truly a Mexican experience staying at this hotel. It is hard not to get immersed in the fact that the guests were trying to learn Spanish and the staff wanting to learn English.
We were very please with our stay at this hotel. The staff were very energetic and helpful.

My wife and I landed safely in Huatulco yesterday after a 12 hour trip. (we live 4 hours north of Toronto) The plane ride over central Mexico was spectacular - mountains, plateaus and small towns and cities made the trip during daytime enjoyable and the 5 hour ride go quickly. The bus ride in from the airport was a little annoying - a "tour guide" tried to describe local attributes and sights - but after 12 hours of travel - the blaring rambling was a bit much for our tired brains. Bonus points for trying though. Villa Blanca - we arrived slightly before 4PM and our room wasn't quite ready - so we hung out in the lobby and had a beer and waited for it to get sorted out - heck you're on vacation, not worth getting excited about - after 30 minutes, we were ready to go. A couple of small glitches off the start - but sorted out very quickly without drama. No remote for the air conditioning, no safe key, no fridge (my wife had requested weeks ago by email) but all was sorted out very quickly with a gentleman that unfortunately we didn't catch his name - no name tag. Knowing what to expect prior to arriving to Villa Blanca is mandatory - read everything prior to your trip. We wanted a different kind of vacation from our typical "all inclusive" experiences and Villa Blanca gives us the flexibility to come and go - a little bohemian - which is fine by us. The room is clean - worn, but that's okay. This is a rustic and charming hotel located in a downtown location close to two small towns and shopping near by. We were upgraded into a loft junior suite - that faces the street, so very noisy, - we thought about asking to be moved, but we thought we'd give it a try. The air conditioning works good and it quiet, the bed is a little harder than we're used to, but this is typical throughout resorts and hotels in Mexico. Traffic at night calms down dramatically and being our first night after such a long travel day, we slept soundly. Hot water is luke warm at best - but we expected that having read lots of reviews. The Super Che supermarket (sort of like a costco I suppose) is handy and nearby with a short walk up the street - I love browsing the supermarkets in Mexico. Breakfast was very good - and service is friendly and guests are friendly too. If you're an uptight "tourista" with no sense of adventure and expect "gold star platinum" facilities, fixtures and rooms - don't come here. What you can expect is clean dated rooms, a quaint laid-back hotel with no crowds, no waiting (except for the check in for us), no fuss. Sitting in the dining room last night and this morning - we overheard lots of people who had been here 2, 3, 4 times and keep coming back - that says a lot about Huatulco and the hotel. We look forward to the rest of the week at Villa Blanca.

Just a quick note - all of the reviews below are true - charming place and staff. We had a great time and will be back to Villa Blanca. Hugo and Anne were great and we appreciate the service from everyone there.

Met some travelers that we will be keeping in touch with and will hopefully see again around the pool in Huatulco!

There are many good things about the Villa Blanca, and other reviews cover them quite nicely and accurately. We loved Huatulco and the location of the hotel, and enjoyed visiting various beaches during the day via inexpensive cab rides, then going into La Crucecita each evening for dinner. Many nice restaurants to choose from there (and the restaurant at Villa Blanca is also very good - we had lunch there a couple times). We did have a few negative experiences: as the day we checked in the safe in the room did not work (dead batteries, it turns out) and the room was not very clean, especially the bathroom. The shower curtain was too short and water had run out of the shower and under the bathroom door, and the walls looked quite dirty. Then, as we were hanging our clothes in the closet someone in the next room coughed to clear his throat and I literally jumped, as it sounded like he was standing in the middle of our room! Then he began brushing his teeth and again, it was so loud and clear it sounded like he was in our room!! Turns out this was an adjoining room and there was NO sound barrier between the rooms. We went to the front desk and were (thankfully!) able to change rooms, but if there had been no other room available we would have been very unhappy in this room. I would only want to return if I could be SURE we weren't getting an adjoining room. The next room they gave us was much cleaner, but the safe was sitting on the floor in the closet, not attached to the wall. Not a very secure feeling knowing that someone could just pick up the entire safe and walk out of the room with it! In order to access the safe without getting down on our hands and knees on the floor each time, we picked it up and put it on the only chair in the room. Later in the week we could not get THIS safe open! Took a couple of hours for the only person who could fix it to arrive at work and open it (dead batteries, once again.) Good thing we were not leaving that morning, having to catch a plane with our passports stuck in the safe! They also seemed to have a double-standard regarding personal alcohol consumption around the pool. We saw many people bringing their own cans and bottles of beer and glasses of wine down to the pool area, but one evening when we brought a glass of wine down to sit and play a game of backgammon by the pool before dinner the head waiter came over and reprimanded us and said we were not allowed to have our own alcohol around the pool area. Yet, a group of people a few chairs away had a whole COOLER of their own beers, etc., and the waiters were chatting with them and taking away their empties! We could not understand why we were not allowed and others obviously were... (These folks did not have a bottom room patio, but were at a table by the pool, just as we were.) Unfortunately we had only one chair in our room and the safe was sitting on it, so had nowhere to sit in our room or on the balcony (albeit too small for 2 chairs) to have a glass of wine. In spite of these things, we did have a really nice time overall and the many positives definitely outweighed the negatives. We met many nice folks around the pool, and would consider returning to the Villa Blanca if the price was right (and we could be sure we would not get an adjoining room.) One recommendation would be to bring ear plugs, as on the weekend a lot of families came by bus from Mexico City and they were having fun in the pool in the evening. We like to go bed around 10pm so I was really glad I packed the ear plugs!

Room Tip: If you don't like the first room they give you, ask if anything else is available. You might fi...
