“Loved the food”
Reviewed April 11, 2014

We stayed at the Castillo last year loved it and went back. We found the food at the hotel and at the beach club to be excellent. We love the waiters and servers at the Castillo. All were so friendly. After staying a week at the Castillo we spent a week at the Dreams. The beer at the Castillo was nice and cold. You were lucky to get a cold beer at the Dreams. The food was good at the Dreams but we actually preferred the food at either the Castillo or the beach club. We had amazing clean rooms at the Castillo and when we got to the Dreams had cock roaches in our room. We will go back to the Castillo. To the Dreams maybe not. Oh and we got good top shelf tequila and vodka with out asking for top shelf at the Castillo. At the dreams they would give you well alcohol if you didn't ask for top shelf.

Room Tip: rooms on the second floor with a terrace were the best for us.

Sorry for late review but had to comment on the service at Castillo beach club. When we stayed there they would bring you a new drink before you were done the first one and this went on all day. This service is second to none we couldnt believe it. Just got back from Dreams Huatulco where we had trouble getting a drink at the beach bar by yourself never mind someone bring you one.
Thanks again Castillo for your smiles and service.

My best friend and I booked a 2-week all inclusive holiday to Huatulco for a bargain price and we were very pleased with the hotel, it was clean and well maintained, and we enjoyed the entertainment, trips and nights out. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful, and there were always fun activities at the hotel and beach club. The food was okay, as we are two girls in our 20s we were more bothered about the all inclusive cocktails to be honest but there was a wide variety available at mealtimes. For the price we were really happy with the hotel and hope we can go back at some point!

We stayed at the Castillo from Mar.4 to 11/14.
We were fortunate and had a second floor room with terrace. Loved it! It was so nice to sit and people-watch, especially during our week, because of the festival for the beginning of Lent. There was so much to see.

The room itself was clean, but had very poor lighting. Our room had no room safe but must have at one time, for the instructions were still hanging in the closet. Water pressure was very good in the shower.

The staff at the Castillo (hotel itself) were awesome, friendly and helpful. Staff at the Beach Club were indifferent.
The location was perfect.
We enjoyed the pool at the hotel very much.
Again, we met some wonderful people.

The food was good, but there was not a huge selection to choose from. Oddly enough at breakfast, there was a toaster but no bread to toast.

The hotel is getting a little tired. Some of the terrace furniture has frayed umbrellas and a few of the tables had big holes in them. There was a router taped to the ceiling in the hall, but internet wasn't available in the rooms.

The beach club was very nice as far as the facilities go. We found it odd that at the restaurant menus weren't offered, they had to be asked for. The staff made us feel uncomfortable asking for menu items, it seemed to be a chore for them.

Would we return? Maybe.

We stayed at the Hotel Castillo Huatulco from Feb 18 - 25, 2014 and here are my comments. The food at the Hotel and Beach Club was NOT GOOD (and I am being nice). We only ate at the hotel/beach club about 4 times in 7 days because it was SO BAD! We are not picky eaters and don't expect much but this was the worst ever in 20+ visits to Mexico. We did have GREAT meals (at LOCAL taco stands) in La Crucecita and the bakery (in the town) was amazing so we got by eating at local places. The hotel itself was great, nice rooms, great staff, great patio facing the street (on the 2nd floor). The beach club was also nice, the beach was BEAUTIFUL always has some shade as it is SO HOT there. Loved the location, loved the hotel/beach club but food was SO BAD - not worth getting the all inclusive better off just getting the hotel room and eating locally which is very reasonable ($20 for dinner including drinks).

Room Tip: Rooms on the 2nd floor with a balcony facing the street are the best!

We spent a week in Huatulco at the Castillo hotel. The staff is friendly, the Mexican food is excellent and the location is great if you want to walk around and explore. The beach club at Chahue Beach is excellent although the ocean can be rough and the water gets deep fast. When we return to Huatulco, we plan to stay here again :)

We just spent a week at this hotel and enjoyed it very much.

Rooms
We started off on the 4th floor overlooking the pool with a king bed and switched to the second floor overlooking the street because I wanted a terrace. My husband was not happy when the cement truck arrived across the street at 6.30 the next morning where the Holiday Inn is being built. So beware nice terrace but you have early morning construction noise. There was plenty of hot water In the shower with good pressure and AC that worked very well. Most nights we turned it off.

Food
The main dining room always had something we could eat. There was quite a bit of local food especially on the weekends so you had to be aventurous. The food was good and hot and that is good from a safety perspective as bacteria and viruses don't multiply if food is kept hot enough.

No Cappuccino in the hotel, but there is a coffee place in the park across the street.

The lunch at the beach club did not have a huge selection, but was mostly good and I enjoyed the fresh salads at both restaurants.

Beach club
It was a 10-15 min walk or a couple of minutes on the shuttle. Always had plenty of chairs either on the beach or around the pool. The beach was rough most of the days we were there and not so good for swimming. I lost balance and was pounded by three big waves that had me limping for several days! At least there is a pool at the beach club as well as the hotel, but I really prefer the ocean. There is a trampoline, play area for kids, a beach volley ball site and an area with hammocks to relax.

There is no real entertainment at the hotel except on Saturday when they had a dance troup perform and the buffet was held in the conference room with the show after. A group played live music in the lobby on Friday night and musicians played at the beach club on Sunday afternoon.

All staff from the security, waiters, and bartenders were great. The service provided by the front desk staff was exceptional.

We got a great last minute deal and would return here providing the price was reasonable.

Room Tip: Second floor even number rooms have large terrace, but noisy with construction across road. All oth...
