We spent two weeks at Secrets, from October 30 to November 13, 2012. Our first impression of the resort was very good, indeed. Rooms are nice with a breathtaking view on Conejos Bay. Beds are very comfortable. Air condition was adequate, though a bit too noisy, it was not a problem, though, we would turn it off for the night, leaving the balcony door open. The resort is kept very clean, staff is very friendly and accommodating, nothing really to complain about, well except the food at the resort. The food quality was not very good to say the least.
Anything, except spring rolls (which were actually very good) we tried was either bland, off-putting, or just not appealing at all. We had been food-poisoned twice, once at Spice, and at Castaways. The problem might be with staff not washing hands, or the food is not fresh. We have witnessed staff touching food with bare hands at Market Cafe, this is not acceptable. Secrets has to do something to turn around the food department, either the responsible management should be fired, or sent to other 5-star resorts for education. We have been in other resorts and we know, it is possible to make tasty (and safe) food.

Room Tip: All rooms are very nice with an ocean view. There is no garden view in this resort, which is actual...

We spent two weeks in April at this resort. Yes, it took me a long time to write my review but I did take notes at the time. Secrets is a 5 star resort but a lot of little things bugged me. I'll share them now and hope that management pays attention. So here goes, in no particular order:

-umbrellas. There should be some fixed shade giving shelters by the pool. The wind came up many days and forced management to close the umbrellas leaving all but those who had claimed a palapa in direct sunlight

-palapas and swinging beds. I suggest that perhaps there should be a palapa sign up schedule. There were 5 swinging beds. It took until the second week we were there to be able to get one (i had to get a bed before sunrise!).

-bar glasses. We saw that they were only rinsed clean and then used again, ugh. The glasses really looked scummy by the end of the day!

-entertainment. We stayed two weeks, could you not vary the entertainment enough to come up with a two week schedule? You showed some evening movies, is it so hard to come up with two weeks worth of them?

-towels and chairs. We found some of the lounge chairs "reserved" most of the day by people who weren't on them most of the day. You mention in your brochure that one is not allowed to do that, can't you enforce it then?

-Wifi. Reception sucks.

-Website. Lies about Wifi reception.

-"It's a pleasure". All staff were trained to say it. That's nice but the saying is "It's my pleasure".

-Broken glass. Pick it all up please. I found piece after piece in our room over time.

Two weeks was too long at this resort. Not enough going on and they just set themselves up for one week stays.

Room Tip: I wouldn't suggest the balcony jacuzzi. You sit so low you don't see anything and the jacuzz...

My husband and I came here for our honeymoon on 10/27/2012 for a week. This was the best vacation hands down I have ever been on.Our apple representatives were fantastic and Upon arrival we were greated with a cold aloe towel to cool off from the heat and a drink. With daily entertainment from volleyball to shots bingo to snorkeling the entertain staff became like family. Mickey, Karen, Efren, and Victor made our stay so much fun that we plan on coming back every year for our anniversary. There were fantastic shows every night and Mario and Raul also had ah uge part in making us feel at home. We were taken care off if we were on the beach, at a bar, at a restaurant, or in the room we were taken care of. The food at every restaurant was beyond fabulous and our waiter Eden who we had five different nights was better then any waiter I have ever had even back home. Our room was always spotless thanks to claudia and anything we wanted or needed was taken care of. Upon leavin some of our favorite staff members stopped at the lobby just to say goodbye. I felt like i was leaving lifelong friends and family and we cant wait to come back.

Room Tip: choose a room with a jacuzzi or swim out pool, they have a beautiful view from floor 5

My husband and I stayed at Secrets Huatulco for 7 nights in October. We booked the property because of its secluded location and the fact the hotel sits alone in its own cove. We were not disappointed. This hotel is by far the BEST all-inclusive vacation we’ve ever experienced. Over the years we’ve stayed at several all-inclusive resorts including properties in Cancun, Costa Maya, Puerto Vallarta and even Egypt; but again this was the best experience we’ve ever had at an all-inclusive.

Hotel & Room
The property was extremely clean and the service was outstanding. Our room was cleaned promptly each and every day. The in room safe was very secure. The nicest touches included slippers and robes for all guests and chocolates on your pillows at night.

As for the bathroom…it is a VERY open concept. While we thought it was a little ‘odd’ when we first arrived, my husband and I had no problem adjusting to the frosted glass doors, etc…

All rooms have an ocean front view. If you upgrade to a swim out pool or jacuzzi suite your view might not be as ‘grand’ as a basic room. All basic rooms are at the top of the resort with an amazing view. After our experience we’re glad we didn’t upgrade.

Upon arrival at the hotel the front desk had us checked in within five minutes, but then escorted us over to a concierge to give us more details on the hotel. This is the first pitch of their timeshare scheme. We politely listened for five minutes, said we were not interested and then proceeded up to our room. We were never bothered after that initial welcome.

Food
The property had a wide array of restaurants and selections when it came to breakfast, lunch and dinner. We enjoyed breakfast at the Market Café buffet every morning. There were several made to order stations and the number of typical Mexican breakfast items available impressed us. As for lunch, we hopped around all week and tried the pool snack bar, main buffet and the ocean view ala carte option. All were good choices with good food. We just selected the restaurant each day based on what we wanted. As for dinner, all of the ala carte restaurants were fabulous. When I say ‘fabulous’ I mean ‘fabulous’ for an all-inclusive. They are not all 5 star dining experiences, but again…for an all-inclusive resort they are great and we had excellent service. The five unique options include seafood, Mexican, French, Asian and Italian. The French was my favorite, followed by the Italian restaurant. What separated this resort from others was the extensive menus, presentation and when you ordered a beef tenderloin cut of steak an actual thick filet was delivered to your table. This in our opinion separated this resort from the others out there.

Drinks
Great service with several great bar options. Our mini fridge in the room was stocked each an every day with Coronas, waters and sodas. Another small touch that helped make this resort phenomenal was the fact that the pool area drinks were served in large tropical (plastic) glasses and beers came in large (plastic) beer flutes. Also, all top shelf liquors were available. Ask for a specific liquor and you shall receive!

Beach and Ocean
The private cove was amazing. It had great rocky cliffs surrounded by lush green mountains. The landscape was very comparable to when we visited portions of the Big Island in Hawaii. While the sand was extremely hot to the touch in the afternoons, the resort had plenty of beach chairs and hanging beds with shade. The waves in some areas were pretty strong, while in others not so much. The hotel always had someone at the beach watching out for swimmer safety.

Overall
Huatulco is by far the cleanest city in Mexico I’ve ever visited and Secrets was the best resort I’ve ever had the pleasure of staying. Of course the property had a few, minor things that I didn’t necessarily like, BUT I know that the perfect resort just doesn’t exist and I refuse to mention any of these petty things on Trip Advisor.

After returning home my husband and I both agreed that this is the first all-inclusive resort we’d ever think about returning to again.

Room Tip: Ask for the third floor of building one. It's got the best, unobstructed view of the entire cov...

YES! .... to all the new & grand. YES! .... to all the fabulous staff. Yes! .... to the paradise location in a safe and clean zone.
Yes, agreed with all the other rave reviews, but there is even more in the fine details.
Every accommodation has decoration, SECRETS HAS ART!
All food has spices, SECRETS discerns HERBS! (LOTS for health-oriented vegetarians too!)
Every hotel has sanitation, SECRETS has Jacuzzi tub AND hand-held wash AND RainShower!
Many beaches, but how many with ZERO LITTER & CIGARETTE BUTTS? VIVA SECRETS!
Most pool Water is tragic. SECRETS has superior design main-drains, aeration, mood lighting, and quality attention to comfortable chemical balances. (no kids certainly helps!)
Everyplace has some sort of style. SECRETS has actual ARCHITECTURE!
Top-shelf liquor, REAL fruit juices, fresh flowers, internet that WORKS, minimal insecticide,
well-rinsed/unscented linen, no creepy/dark carpet "that doesn't show the dirt", security & lifeguard that's AWAKE!, air-conditioning that doesn't grind. EVERYTHING I want, and nothing I don't want. (except stinky smokers IN pools & eating areas. YUCK!)
A MARLIN cerveche' that has got to be the most delicious concoction I have ever tasted!
I could run this off the page and still not begin to convey the excellence. It's THAT good.

Room Tip: All rooms are nearly identical as far as views and access. Take the elevator up, or take it down. Re...

We were just at Secrets Huatulco for a week. It is a beautiful resort in a beautiful location. The resort has a modern design and is kept very clean. It was low season so it varied from two to four restaurants open a night. There was plenty of opportunity to try them all and the food was very good, especially in Bordeaux. The service was great in all of them except CinCin the Italian restaurant. The bars were well stocked. All of the employees were very friendly and would go out of their way to get what you wanted. Housekeeping did a very good job. There is a nice sized beach with plenty of palapas. We did not use the pools, they looked very clean but did not have many umbrellas for shade. The spa was wonderful, it has a large pool with a hydrotherapy circuit, the massages were great, and the view from there is fantastic. We really enjoyed the week, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice relaxing vacation. We wouldn't hesitate to go back. I highly recommend the Couples Moon and Stars package at the spa.

Just got home from a 7 night stay at this beautiful resort. The Resort is only a year old built from the ground up and it is truly beautiful. The 3 pools are huge and beautiful and sit on different levels all overloopking the bay. One of the pools has a swim-up bar and pool activities. The other pools have bar service with waiters. At night the 3 pools light up with little twinkling lights making them just shimmer. The resort has little intimate spots all through the resort where couple can sit and relax on wicker funiture or on big pillowed beds and spend time together under the stars. The decor was beautiful. Because it was low season resort was only 15% full which made it a perfect opportunity to get to know the staff. Everyone was very helpful and were always asking if there was anything we needed or wanted. We couldn't want for anything. The Entertainment team (Karen, Micky, Efrin and Juan) kept us busy all day with games and lots of laugh. The were a great group of people who were wonderful and made our stay extra special. They went above and beyond to make sure we were having fun. Raul was another employee who always stopped by numerous times a day to make sure we didn't need anything and just to stay hello. You can definately tell these employee loved their jobs. The food at the resort was wonderful and the staff at the restaurants made sure that we were happy with everything they served. The rooms were beautifully decorated and very big. The views from the room of the bay and pools were beautiful. We definately will be going back next year and hopefully we will get to spend more time with our new friends Karen, Micky Efrin, Juan and Raul. Thanks to all of you for make Eddie and my vacation so much fun. Debbie and Eddie Kopeshke
