Dreams Huatulco is a beautiful place. Lots of different food everyday and they have great celebrations there almost daily. The only downfall is the earthquakes Huatulco experiences. We were in an earthquake there during our stay and the hotel staff is not up to par on what to do when one strikes. A bit more educating on their part would be helpful.
The pools are beautiful, the beach was perfect... snorkling right in front of the hotel was awesome.

I´m gonna start my review telling letting you know i went on a family vacation, 5 adults 1 child 3. We were 22-26 Sept 2010 , this is a low season . Its very important to let you know this resort is under another management totally refurbiished and as i was told by local people of a tour we had its the BEST in the area. We were on a relaxing vacation so we werent expecting nightlife though i must say we did had all the family our nightlife cause at nights there's a show which we attend everynight and altough its not a vegas show you might just enjoy it , listening good music and have your drink, theres also a karaoke night which i enjoyed the most. I have to say that when i read reviews here, the bad ones i got with lots of bad feelings of the resort. but as i entered, i just got the feeling everything would be ok, and it was.
Rooms.
We stayed at a oceanfront room , very clean, totaly refurnsihed , queen bed, great bath, safe, LCD TV and a great oceanview. We were on the 4th floor. So on the rooms i would say it was just great.
Food.
I saw so terrible reviews specially on the food and im a piky person for food, and must say it was awesome, not gourmet plates but just a typical mexican food. If you want to go on vacations to have some gourmet food perhaps its not gonna be the right place to come. I must say i didnt went to all restaurants, just tried the El Patio try the arrachera , was my favorite of all. There is also the italian Portofino which i heard it was good , such as the Himitsu. The world cafe was also very good on a buffet with many typical mexican food.
Spa.
We tried the hidrotherapy and was a great choice , specially for the price we payed $50 for 3. The circuit was nice, starting at the sauna, then the pool massage. you must try it.
Gym.
The gym perfectly conditioned i liked it a lot.
Pools.
We had a blast everyday on the pool next to the bar and oceanside restaurant. We had no problem getting a sitting place everyday , getting there at about 12pm. Theres plenty of pools and sitting places , but remember i was on low season, dont know if on other season pool would be full.
Pool Service
Awesome, wouldnt finish one drink when waiter would come and bring me another, i saw many waiters all over the place, and never had a problem with my drinks, besides , the bar was close to the pool , so if i felt like i would go for one directly.
Beach
Great view , though water was a little rough, close to the beach bar, barracudas, and next to the rock out there you will find lots of fish, so remember to take some bread and feed them, they will get to your feet and swim next to you, was great. I also tried the kayaks, the windsurf, and the jetski. There´s a tomblin in the middle of the resort beach for which you have to swim to get there, once there just relax and enjoy.
Kids
There is a Kids nursing service , which we didnt use, but saw many kids enjoyed a lot with the activities.
Lobby bar
The last night we had a blast on that bar.
Tours
We did the 9 bay tour, it was great, saw turtles , dolphins and many other fish. We went snorkeling on one bay and was amazing. We also ate at a very nice beach typical seafood.

Generally i would definitely reccomend this place and im looking forward to come back again. Specially must say , we received what we payed for. The people that works on the hotel is very nice and really now what service means. My only bad comment would be that door conecting rooms is not the best, because you can hear next room. We didnt had a problem but it there were somehting to dislike this would be.

Just remember you are in mexico and dont expect to eat American food , we never got sick,. also it you are looking for nightlife perhaps cancun would be a better option. The avereage age i saw was between 30-50 yrs. Many children.

One more thing, there is wireless service on the resort but if you want it in your room, you have to pay for it, strange, but it is. I just decided not to pay and forget about emails and stuff, besides, now you have a iphone or BB to get any urgent mail so that was something that didnt bothered me to much.

I hope this review can be helpfull for you , just in case feel free to ask me any question.

Regards,

Gerardo

As part of our honeymoon, my Husband and I decided to have a non legal wedding on the beach. Our coordinator, Gabby Salinas, had everything we wanted, down to the very last detail. She was sweet and efficient, and we just loved her. It was a perfect setting for a wedding, and the pictures will now be treasured. The resort itself is beautiful. There are lots of pools and restaurants, and the setting is more beautiful than any picture can really relay. The staff was adorable, such friendly people. If your ideal vacation is partying all night long, this is not for you. It is not Cancun, and is really a great place if your thing is eco-adventure. We went on several tours, most of them by ourselves, for under 50 USD per person. the guides were ALL knowledgeable, and freindly. We are already planning a trip back for next year!

Two adults and two kids (5 and 7); traveled during "rainy season" in early August 2010. It was raining when we landed at the airport, and then we never saw another drop during our 6-day visit. It was clearly raining elsewhere, but not on us. The property is well-managed and clean. Food was average to above-average. Nothing really excellent, but nothing bad either. As for those who write about getting sick, I really think they must have contracted something on their flight. We ate everything, and none of us got ill. In fact, the hotel seems to go to grath lengths to ensure sanitary conditions and that food is prepared with purified water. It's true, you don't want to brush your teeth with tap water, but we were impressed by the professionalism and standards in food prep and presentation.

We opted for a "preferred" room with an ocean view. Booked online and got what was purported to be a 50% discount. At check in we asked whether there were any better available rates, and after a few minutes, the concierge attending to us told us that there was a better rate that brought the price down another 25%! Lesson: it pays to ask!

Preferred room had a lovely ocean view, nice bathroom amenities, and a stocked minibar that was regularly replenished. We are not big drinkers or partiers, but appreciated the attentiveness.

This is a low-key, high-end resort. Many families, and a few couples (it was Mexican summer vacation time, so about 80% of the guests were from Mexico, which we loved). I'm not sure I'd call it romantic. There are other hotels where the focus is more on ambience and romance. The focus here was on maintaining a welcoming and extremely comfortable property, good facilities (6 pools; one adult only), dining options with good food, and attentive service. Dreams succeeded in all of these. WE did not go to the vening entertainment. Our kids did not participate in the organized kid-oriented activities, though apparently many others did.

The spa was OK. Water treatments (included) were a nice touch. Facilities were pleasant, but in all I think a buit pricy for the experience.

Front desk staff was lovely and very helpful. Alicia was a big help, and she put us in contact with Filiberto who took us for a bay tour in his boat. He also does fishing trips. I'd recommend him.

The setting is beautiful. The ocean in front is good for strong swimmers, but not good for snorkeling. As with many Huatulco beaches, the steep incline creates a strong undertow at the shore, and the beach drops off fairly close to shore. Once past the breakers, however, swimming is delightful. Beach walking is a buit challenging given the slope. Take a boat to Playa La Entrega or Playa El Maguey for a more Mexico-oriented and pond-like experience (palapa restaurants on the beach with equipment rental for everything).

Pools: three are inifinity pools facing the ocean (4.4" deep). One is adult only. The largest is for everyone. The third has music playing. Three others, closer to the hotel and set-back from the beach, have kid zones where the water is shallower.

Beach activities include kayaks and catamarans. We rented a jet ski for $40/30 min. that was fun.

Staff is uniformly friendly. Pool-side wait staff works especially hard. Poolside snacks are limited to potato chips and vegetable platter (keeps bugs, etc. away). A bar is never more than a 2 minute walk.

Dining: buffet had great variety, but nothing spectactular. The Mexican-themed restaurant had good traditional fare. The asian-themed restaurant had good food too.

Menu all-around is heavy on beef and pork, though there are also poultry and seafood options.

Room: Nicely appointed, but not luxurious. We had room for two roll-away twin beds. It was crowded, but functional. A/C worked nicely. Bathrooms nicely equipped. Good water pressure.

Make sure to get out on the water at least once, either to go fishing or to take a bay tour. The views toward shore from the water are spectacular, and the other beaches are definitely worth seeing. We saw sea turtles swimming just a 1/2 mile off shore.

We went to Huatulco for 6 nights before traveling to Oaxaca for 6 more nights. My thought was that with two kids, at least we'd be ensured a successful beach experience even if they didn't love the city experience. Well, Dreams - Huatulco was a major success. The adults AND the kids loved it. We'd certainly stay here again on a return trip to Oaxaca or Southern Mexico. BTW, the kids loved Oaxaca city too. If you're in this part of the world, make the time for the trip (AeroTucan; daily flights).

My husband and I just returned from a wonderful relaxing week long vacation at Dreams Huatulco Resort & Spa. The weather was hot, but not any more so than home 90s – 100s. Generally there was a breeze, but if not we would nap in our wonderfully air conditioned room and enjoy one of the many cable channels available in English. There were tons of activities for children from archery to ceramics. The seven pools made it easy to always get a pool side seat any time of the day, the pools were well maintained and very clean, and there were fresh towels readily availble at the pool side all day long. There was one pool just for adults, if you wanted to get away from all the children. The restaurants were all outstanding and the food was very Mexican unlike other areas of Mexico that serve more American foods. Roberto was one of the managers, and he was an absolute delight. He always checked in on us, and by the time we left he knew my husband by name. They had a steak grill every day at one of the restaurants; my husband ate five in one afternoon; I watched one lady walk off with a platter full; you could cut them with a fork they were so tender. The tourist attractions are centered around nature; it’s a very beautiful area with a lot of flowers and fauna. This was our fifth trip to Mexico, our first to Huatulco, and our first to a Dreams Resort. We love Mexico, Huatulco is a great place to visit, and we’ll definitely return to another Dreams Resort.
