My spouse and I just returned from Dreams (Jan 31-Feb 7) and had a wonderful time!!
I had read a lot of great reviews before going so I had high hopes. This was our first time in Huatulco and we will definitely be back. Stepping off the plane to arrival in our room was the quickest we have experienced thus far....big difference from other areas in Mexico.
This was also the first time that we received the room that we actually requested...(therefore not wasting our limited vacation time on switching rooms lol).
Dreams is a good size...everything is nearby...beach and pool access all easily accessible.
Staff are great!! Every staff that we passed always greeted us and smiled. I agree with another review that I read on how hard the staff work and that they should be treated with respect - not rudely as I witnessed from some guests.
You can get great specialty coffees in Cocoa lounge area.
The food was very good...no complaints...lots to pick from. We only tried 3 of the restaurants as we did other things off the resort. The Mexican, Italian and Seaside Grill...all very good.
My only negative thing about the restaurants would be that they are not all open every night....as we had wanted to try the Seafood one but it wasn't open the night we wanted....next time we will stay 2 weeks :)
We had a romantic dinner one night at the Gazebo looking out to the ocean...it was a very romantic setting.
Our room overlooked the Adult only pool...quite area. Bed was very comfortable. Room was kept clean and our fridge was always stocked with beer/water/pop.
We went into La Crucesita one afternoon...It was a good size...had more restaurants and shops then I was expecting. Love that there are no chain outlets there. Would have liked to go back at night time...next time. Under $5 cab ride there. Felt very safe.
We also went into Santa Cruz for an afternoon...just to hang out on the beach at one of the restaurants.
We went on 2 excursions with Air Transat...the Coffee Plantation one was excellent. We will drink our coffee with a greater appreciation after experiencing this tour. Our tour guide Oscar "The History Man" was terrific...very knowledgeable....we learned a lot. This is a full day...way up in the mountains....so the drive is very curvy...especially the last 20 kms up there....I was grateful that Oscar had some Dramamine for the drive home :) They also stop in a town...where we visited their City Hall, a Church and walked around the market.
2nd excursion we did was the Sunset Cruise...very nice to get out on the water...see a better sunset....which you can't see from the hotel due to their location. We spotted some dolphins and a sea turtle. Luckily Oscar was our tour guide again.
Note: re Air Transat....heads up to check if the plane you will be on has entertainment...ours did not - luckily our travel agent advised us beforehand...or it would have been a very long flight from Victoria. Their recent commercials on TV had mislead some of the people our our trip.
Before our trip we were trying to decide between Dreams and Secrets...so we had the opportunity to visit Secrets to check it out. I was glad we had picked Dreams...but also wouldn't mind checking out Secrets next time. Dreams is more lively...because you have couples and families...and a big wedding destination spot it seemed. Secrets is newer, very quiet at our quick visit there...the spa area has an amazing view due to being higher up.
I did visit the spa in Dreams for a massage and a hydro path session is also included....it was excellent...felt very special.
One last issue that I have but it's more to do with people than the resort. The "chair game"...absolutely brutal that people get up before 6am (probably leave towels out before they go to bed) to reserve spots...and usually the same spots everyday...come on people mix it up! Be more courteous towards others. The resort does have a 30min policy but I think it's hard for them to enforce...so we took matters into our own hands :) You don't reserve one of the best areas in the resort and then go on an excursion...don't care if it went longer then you thought...just plain rude. Anyways the one day when we did want to sit by the pool near the beach all we had to do was ask the staff and they brought us out an umbrella and chairs...so that solved the issue...and luckily we like to do other things during our holidays...so this wasn't an issue for us...because I don't think getting up before 6am on holidays to secure a chair is very relaxing...and the more everyone does it the earlier it will get.
We will definitely return to Huatulco...loved that it is less commercialized and more authentic Mexican. Oh ya...almost forgot the weather is AMAZING...it was perfect everyday....don't believe the weather network...before we had gone it was forecasting rain/cloud for several days...it was sunny everyday!!!

I was a bit disappointed at this place, the service was in general good, but not excellent, the food was average and nothing fancy, the rooms were ok, and Huatulco is very Nice, Entertainment is the issue, they have none… the shows at the theatre were bad and without spirit, entertainment team was amateur and the best was some of the music at the lobby bar, there was a couple of groups an duets doing something close to music, the keyboard duet was fine, but not great, the only surprise was a solo guy with a guitar that played just for one night, he really was the best at this hotel, unfortunately he never got back by the time we stay, the people at front desk told us that he was coming back a few days later but nothing happen. Too bad, because that was the best attraction this place has.

Dreams is a good hotel with a poor vision. It’s a shame.

Thanks. I hope next year the improve some things and if the comments are fine maybe we’ll come back.,

This was our fourth trip to Huatulco and third to Dreams.
Sometimes changes are not always good.

Japanese restaurant:
The Japanese restaurant has totally changed their menu to Thai food.
This was very disappointing as the Japanese food was much better than what they have now.
Steaks: (Seaside grill or anywhere else)
The quality of the steaks has gone way down since we have been coming here.
When Dreams first premiered with their change over from the Gala, everything was top notch.
There was steak selections of ribeye, NY cuts, T-Bones, now they are just thin flank steaks.
For the price you pay at this resort, they really have cheaped out on the beef selection.
Food in general:
In fact the buffets were much better than the al a cartes.
There variety at the world café was changed daily.
Roast Turkey, Shaved pork, chicken fingers, pizza...etc
The breakfast omelets were excellent!

The Entertainment staff; were almost none existent than what they were in previous years.

Getting a poolside spot:
You need to get up before 6 am to save a chair poolside. The towel /chair saving game is going strong here.

Rooms/Staff in general:
The rooms, cleaning staff, restaurant staff and bartenders are all excellent. No complaints there.

Weather:
The weather is what keeps us coming back. Perfect everyday, full sun with daytime highs near 34C and lows of 28C. (Do not go by the weather sites for Huatulco)

We would come back, but may try Secrets next time.
For the price you pay at Dreams, they need to step up the entertainment and some of the Food quality.

Tour tip: Book with "Tiko", we went on a 9 bay cruise, where we also saw Humpbacked whales, dolphins, sea turtles and went to excellent snorkel spots. The clarity of the ocean was excellent! You will NOT be disappointed!

Room Tip: Book room # 2308

Dreams tries hard to please, but it needs to fix some problems.
Pool chairs are scarce and most need fixing or are damaged.

Buffet needs more variety,

Weddings out front of guest rooms are way to loud at night, have the reception party in the night club.

People still brought their kids into the Adult pool area, Solo Adultos only gracias, but overall it is a good resort, friendly. great location and clean. muchas gracias for our cuatro stay at dreams. Zivan and Lazara are great employees to have. hasta pronto

We just got back from a wonderful week at Dreams, Huatulco. This was our 2nd visit to Huatuco, first time stayed at Los Bristas, this time at Dreams, there is no comparison. Our room was a delux tropical view overlooking adult pool and japanese restaurant. A quiet, peaceful location, I loved the jacuzzi on the balcony and used it frequently. We loved our room. In order to get a great spot on the beach that will provide shade when you want it, you have to go down early and put your towel on chairs. My husband went down every morning just before 6am!! The best place to enjoy a wonderful breakfast is at Seaside, it is not crowded, no line ups and right on the ocean. We did not enjoy meals at the World buffet, I felt the food there was bland and not appealing. The A La Carte restaurants were great, our favourite was the Japanese one, we went there twice and the Italian was awesome also.
The beach at Dreams is awesome, the water was great for swimming and there is snorkelling. The staff were courteous and the room service was the best I have every experienced, very speedy.
I found the room cleaning times were different every day, most of the time the cleaning gal was there at end of day when we were returning to our room after a day spent on the beach. I would have preferred the cleaning be done late morning or early afternoon. That would be my only complaint overall for the week.
We spent a couple of hours at the Spa, the massage was "the best" and the way we were treated was like royalty, also, the price was very reasonable.
We will be returning to Dreams Huatulco!!

Room Tip: Building overlooking adult pool and Japanese restaurant very quiet and peaceful.

We went to this resort to attend a wedding, we had a group of 38 people stay at the Dreams. The check in experience was quick and very well organized, and those checking us in were polite and very friendly.

Our room was a bit of a disappointment. It was, however, clean and well kept. The dissapointment was we had booked a room with a king sized bed, and ended up getting a room with two twin beds. I'm married... I like to sleep in the same bed as my husband. We called the front desk right away to request to be moved, and were treated very rudely (more on this later). In addition, our mini-bar had not been stocked. It contained 4 beer, and nothing else. We also called the front desk to have this stocked, and no one came.

Customer service - overall the service at the hotel (restaurants and bars) was great. The staff was very polite and attentive, some bending over backwards to please you. There was one front desk clerk who was extremely rude. Our room didn't have the Dreams binder of hotel amenities, we attempted four times to get this binder from this same clerk.. bottom line - it was OUR fault that the binder wasn't in the room. After talking to a different front desk clerk, we had a binder within 20 minutes. Our mini bar was filled ONCE the entire time we were there. Again, speaking to the same front desk clerk, it was OUR fault that the mini bar didn't get filled because we were never in our room (no one else in the group of 38 had this problem). I wasn't overly impressed with this person, unfortunately I didn't get his name.

Food - The food at the a la carte restaruants that we visitied was fantastic. The Japanese was our favorite! We tried the Italian and the Mexican as well. I wasn't overly impressed with the Mexican restaurant, perhaps just personal preference. If you go to the Italian, definitely get the Tiramisu! The food at the buffets was good.. there isn't a TON of selection compared to, say, your RIU chains of hotels, however you will not go hungry.

Beach & Pools - the beach and pools are very nice.. kept clean and well maintained. There is a school of fish down at the beach near the rocks that you can feed every morning, quite an experience. The service at the beach and pools was fanastic as well. My only complaint would be that there are signs all over the resort saying that you are not allowed to reserve chairs for more than 30 minutes - this is NOT enforced.. and unfortunately, you have to be down at the beach and pool areas really early to reserve your spot if you want a chair.

Other than the one rude front desk clerk and the twin beds issue, this is a very nice resort.

We just got back from a wonderful week at the Dreams Huatulco. Everything was great...the room, the food and the service. Delia in the reception area was so friendly and helpful with telling us about the area. We know her job was to get us to go for the vacation club presentation, she was very understanding when we said no, as were others as they asked as well. Delia continued to greet us each day and treat us as friends. Everyone was great and please people...have a good time but treat these workers with respect...they are NOT your servants. Not only are tips welcomed but please and thank you is deserved too. Shows are ok. They do have professional dancers. Definitely will go back!

Room Tip: We typically try to upgrade to ocean view when we get there but our tropical room was already assign...
