“Excellent week at Barcelo...we would go back!”
Reviewed April 17, 2013

Our family stayed at the Barcelo Huatulco from Mar. 26th until Apr. 2nd and had a fantastic time. We booked this trip as a last minute get-away as the price was right and the reviews seemed quite good. We knew nothing about Huatulco until a few days before our trip. Let me say we were pleasantly surprised. First off the weather is amazing! Best week of weather we have had while on vacation. 35 deg's everyday and I'm not sure that we saw a cloud the whole week! People in Huatulco are very friendly and the area is very safe and clean. As reported, the rooms are outdated and are in need of upgrades but they they were clean and provided us everything we needed. We had a nice room overlooking the pool and the ocean. Everything from our airport transfer to our check-in went very smooth. There were lots of activities to keep our kids busy as we relaxed in the pool and the ocean. We are not picky eaters and found the food was fine with plenty of variety. We did try all the a la carte restaurants and found the Spanish one to be the best. The shows at night were suprisingly very entertaining. They had an outdoor bbq and show one night and it was great! I can honestly say everyone who works at the resort tries very hard to do the best job that they can. Language is a bit of a barrier but eventually they can figure out what you are asking for.
One thing to be aware of is that there are quite a few locals that use this resort. That did not pose a problem for us as we were just there to relax, but I did notice that the locals would get quicker service at the restaurants and bars which irritated some travellers. We only had poor service the one night in the Mexican restaurant but other than that we didn't wait long the whole week for anything really. Also just remember, that the beach is public and there are MANY vendors. I found if you were polite and just said no, then they left you alone, but if you are sitting near the beach be prepared to be approached. All in all it was exactly what we were looking for..some family time R&R in great weather. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our early morning beach walks with our coffee. We would definately go back to Huatulco!

My husband and I stayed at Barcelo Huatulco March 26- April 9,2013. We had a great time. The resort was wonderful. The weather was hot everyday, the beach just beautiful! The rooms are a bit dated, but very clean! We chose the premium club and got a fantastic room with a wrap around balcony and views of both the ocean and the pool area.We ate in all the Alacartes and liked the Spanish one the best. Fabiola was a gracoius hostess and our waiters were terrific! The premium club room was so great. Jose Vizorietea was lovely. He gave us great service and on my birthday tracked us down at the restaurant to bring me a cake! We enjoyed breakfast and lunch daily in the Tortuga buffet and always had great sevice from our favourite waiter Ricardo Morales and from the hostess Sofia. She always had a big smile and friendly welcome. Octavio was also great in the premium club and also the other waiter Ricardo not sure of his last name. We were always up early with the music of the surf and birds, so didn't have trouble finding lounge chairs. We took a great boat tour of the bays with Tony Lopez. I have really no complaints for the entire vacation and would definitely come back again.

Stayed at the Barcelo last week and had a lovely time. The weather was really hot at 37 degrees which we surprisingly survived! Actually it was easy, Lots of shade and sunscreen. Staff was wonderful, especially Oliver and the gals at kids club. Thank you! Met a wonderful family, the Moore's that we hung out with the whole week. The sea was rough so one had to be careful swimmer but the kids had a blast in the waves. Snorkeling wasn't great at this beach as it was too rough, better at la Entrega. I guess this isn't normally the case though. Liked the size of resort for kids so we gave them a lot more freedom then we usually do (ages 8,12). they found a whole gang of girls to hang out with. Felt extremely safe every moment of the day, even when we ventured into town.Nice quiet area with fewer tourists. Gracias!

This was my first trip to the Barcelo Hualtulco and my wife and i were very impressed. We read all the reviews after are travel agent recommended this place and we were blown away at all the good things that people had to say about this place, they were right, good food, cold drinks, grounds very clean and well kept, rooms were kept clean and linens and towels changed everyday and everything was just a couple of minutes away, the pool ,the beach ,bars even the ATM was just minutes away.
We travelled by Sunwing and allbeit the flight to get there was shaky, they made up with it by throwing a farewell BBQ for all the Sunwing travellers on the last full night, again great food and lots of variety.
Everyone that works there and are very friendly, willing to help were and when they can.Bartenders were willing to make any drink you wanted,at any bar you went too.
We did 3 excursions through Sunwing and all 3 were informative and the scenery was great,we did the ATV excursion and saw the a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean and San Augistine Bay ,We did the Rough Tour and learned about Hualtulco and visited the Mexcal Store, tasted Mexcal and ate grasshoppers there. The 3rd tour we did was the Paradise Found Bay tour ,on this tour we visited 2 of the 9 bays ,snorkelled there also ,collected coral and drank beer on a beach ,can't do that in Canada ,and saw all kinds of fish, turtles and crabs on the beach.
So all i can say about this vacation and the Barcelo was, can i go back tomorrow?
If anyone was thinking about going here ,don't hesitate ,you won't be dissapointed

Room Tip: We had room 161 ,the ocean view was beautiful and a nice quiet location on the property, within walki...

Stayed at the Barceló April 6 through 13, and this hotel really exceeded all our expectations. We had already upgraded to the Premium club when we booked the vacation, which is worth every penny.

We were checked into the hotel and although our room was not quite ready we were handed some cool cocktails and shown to the premium room, which was air conditioned. Here we were able to book for the al la carte restaurants, for the next few days. Once we had done this the we were informed our room was ready, and off we went, to find our room. When we opened the door we were confronted by a large, light and bright room, with a king sized bed and a balcony that wrapped around 2 sides of the room, then there was the view, through one window the pool area and through the other was a panoramic view of Tangolunda bay, literally a few feet from our room was the Pacific ocean. (We were in room 348)

While the hotel is a little old, it is clean and tidy and the staff are very friendly always with a smile and nothing was too much trouble. The smaller size of the resort is a bonus.

We recommend taking a trip into town by cab, its 38 Pesos and we always felt very safe while we were off the resort. I would recommend doing the 7 bay jet ski tour, its hard work but fun, look up Huatulco Watersports online.

The food was standard all inclusive fare but was always plentiful and of good quality. Both my wife and had a massage in the spa which was great.

Would we go back again .... YES! this place was our fantastic, I would recommend it to anyone who is looking to visit Mexico in an unspoiled area, with a great location and views.

Room Tip: Ask for room 348, its a premium room but worth every penny

Stayed at the Barcelo April 2 - 9 stay was exactly as expected. This trip we were looking for value and hot and this resort offered both. Check in was fast and easy - saying this we were in the front of the pack - people in the back may not have thought so. Room was simple - clean and comfortable (room 248) which had a very private balcony and was very quiet - there were other rooms which I would not have been happy with ground floor overlooking the main area (not very private) - had enough towels and face cloths although not consistent some days we received more towels then others but always enough - food was ok (I am not a buffet person, but again knew what I was getting into when booked so can hardly complain about that) pasta / egg / crepe stations offered some hot made to order not as buffet ish foods that were good . A la carte - steak and seafood - had a very good meal (my husband had to send his steak back to be cooked Medium is pretty rare but well done suited him fine and was more on the medium side if you want a well done steak I would suggest asking for it charred) Spanish - was excellent best meal we had - Mexican - wasn't my favorite (even over buffet) but my husband loved his meal - Didn't try the Sushi - all in all food is a subjective subject depending on what you are use to - what you order that night - and generally what you are expecting - was it fine dining at its best NO but it was comparable to a good sit down chain restaurant at home. Had no problem finding a chair on the beach might not have been prime location depending on when we were looking but again a chair is a chair and 10 extra steps to the bar didn't kill us. Drinks - if you are big into name brands then upgrading may be for you - we are not big drinkers so the regular drinks were fine - do love my wine and the house wine is not going to become my favorite anytime soon - but a glass or two with dinner seemed to go down and moved on to cosmopolitans in the evening which were very good. Shows - I've seen better (much better) but again this is a 4 star family resort so shows are centered around the family and children so this shouldn't be a big surprise.
Huatulco itself is beautiful - pristine secluded beaches (none of the seaweed and such like on the Mayan side) - We took a cab ride to town safe - friendly - small town wondered about bought a few things without the intense sales pitches you get in some places - had ice cream made in front of us to order at a shop across from the main square (very good) Huatulco caters to Canadians and most if not all tourists there were Canadian - most people speak English very well and tend to be a little more laid back (as opposed to the high pressure you find in some areas) - All in all a good vacation and exactly as we expected - we were looking for a reasonably priced value for money trip and this is what we got - it is not high end and if that is what you are looking for and perfection is what you need then you are going to be dissatisfied - but if that is what you are looking for you should not be looking at a 4 star family resort you should be adding a few more thousand to your vacation budget to get the super luxury of the star resort. We paid just under $1000.00 per person taxes in (if the flight alone was $600.00 return including taxes (and most flights to Mexico including taxes are more than that) that means 7 days of hotel / food / drinks / entertainment / and maid service cost $400.00 or $57.00 per day per person - for $57.00 per day you are not going to get uber luxury - but you can get a great week away in a great beach location so long as you can live without perfection

We arrived at the hotel after a 16 hour delay with Sunwing. We are in the process of writing a letter to Sunwing about our trip. We arrived at the hotel very early in the morning after a sleepless night on the plane. Our room was ready and the check in went smoothly. Our bags were loaded onto a cart and we head to the elevator. We are a family of four, two adults and two teenagers. Our bellhop asks which room we are located in. We reply and he proceeds to tell us we cant be staying in that room it only has one bed. We then head back down to the front desk, stand in line again and they assure us the bellhop is wrong, the room has two double beds. Guess what, the bellhop was right. This is now our third time standing in line waiting our turn to speak with the front desk employee. We are then advised the hotel is booked up and we now have to wait until 1 pm to move into another room. I ask to see which room they have scheduled for us to move into. We go and check out the exterior of the room and the view. We have pre paid for the premier experience. After much discussion they finally found us a room which is oceanfront but it still will not be ready until 1pm. To say the least our first couple of days were very stressful. The hotel itself is older but very clean. Our room was on the second floor directly on the beach. Our maid was cheerful, cleaned our room in the morning and came back in the evening to see if we needed more towels. We had towel art each morning on our bed and she did a wonderful job of straightning up our room. We walked on the beach, went for a sail on the hobbie cat boats, sat around the pool and enjoyed the remainder of our vacation stress free. Our biggest decision in the day was where we wanted to eat for supper. We headed into town numerous times ($4) cab ride, shopped across the street in the market and really enjoyed the people who live in huatulco. The chairs around the pool and beach were not an issue for us we seemed to find a spot every day. If you are looking for a hot vacation spot Huatulco is the place.

Room Tip: When the front desk tells you a certain room is unavailable you should ask them to check their files...
