Excellent trip! We decided to try Huatulco beach resort since it was such a great value and we had never been there. Wehn we arrived we were treated with coffee and snacks. The Hotel is newly remodeld and almost all of staff memebers speak perfect english. We requested a room with 2 queen and ocenview, our needs were meet. In the AM they had a wonderful breafast buffett. Lunch there were serveral Restaurants on the premises. Dinner required restervations or the buffet. Nightly entertainment was great! Pool very nice and free water sports were provided. It was a good trip and we would certainly recommend the Barcelo. Only one draw back , the beach was not what we had anticipated. It has a steep incline that made walking very difficult, and it was not even 1 mile long. We took a cab into town and to other beaches so we could walk.

I was lucky enough to return and stay again at the Barcelo in Huatulco. I stayed there approx 4 years ago and I have always wanted to return. I didn't think my trip could get any better than the first time, but this time was better!! I met some wonderful people ( Tom and Bev from BC...I wish I had been smart enough to get your number and stay in contact ...you are wonderful people)... The staff at the hotel were also wonderful. All the staff in the restaurants, at the front desk, and cleaning were extremelyhelpful and kind. The staff by the pool were exceptional!! Eder was friendly and willing to help with anything. He and a few of the other entertainers were always getting the kids and adults involved in activities, and making sure everyone was having fun!! The entertainment staff from the pool were also at the theatre at night welcoming the guests and preforming with the dancers. They are extremely hard workers and still friendly even they must be exhausted!! The dancers and theatre entertainment was awesome!
The hotel itself may be a little bit older but how much time does one really spend in your room when you are in such a wonderful place? All the amenities are still there and very clean. I have stayed at the Dreams now as well, and can honestly say that I have found the Barcelo far superior... From the pool, to the atmosphere, to the food, to the staff... Barcelo is definitely the place to be!!!!

We stayed at the Barceló Huatuclo for 7 nights from April 21st – 28th. This was our second stay at this resort within a year and it was better than last year – no outdoor construction!! This was our 11th time to a Barceló property in the Caribbean. I will go into some details but if you have any questions please PM me and I can hopefully answer any of your questions you might have!!

Arrival/Front Desk: We booked our trip through Apple Vacations (Frontier Airline staff was fantastic) and it was so nice to get to our resort quickly because out of the entire charter plane we were the only two people going to the Barceló. Everyone else on the plane went to Dreams or Secrets which Apple Vacations owns!! The front desk workers were very friendly and professional when we arrived at 2:30pm on Saturday afternoon. The check-in went smoothly and because of the construction work on our last visit to the resort the general manager of the Barceló promise us a free upgrade to the Premium Club area on our next stay. With that promise we received a fantastic room on the second floor overlooking the oceanfront and pool. In our room we had a welcome letter with a small jug of tequila and a fruit basket (nice touch). I would like to say the front desk stay was so nice and we would like to thank Jorge (general manager) and Laura for making our stay special!!

Room: The location of our room was one of the best. It was on the even side of the hotel (rooms are even on one side and odd on the other side of the horseshoe shape building) and we received room 227 which had a large L-shape balcony with two lounge chairs, table & chairs, two nice sitting chairs with side table and a hammock. Our room included a nice king bed, dresser, small table and chairs, kitchen table with chairs, a small couch, in room safe-key lock, mini refrigerator (beer-Sol bottles, water, soda-coke products, apple juice, chips, peanuts, and wafers), iron, ironing board, TV, alarm clock, great balcony, hanging area, bathrobe and slippers. The bathroom had bath towels, little bottles of conditioner, hair dryer and a shower dispenser with body wash and shampoo. The only problems we had in our room was the door to the hallway was hard to keep lock but after a call to the front desk maintenance came and fixed the jamb plate and everything was perfect after that. The housekeeper and the refrigerator stocker did a great job every day!! One thing that needs to be replaced is the soft goods to the room and the drapes. My one recommendation is to leave your drapes closed during the day because your air conditioning will not keep up cooling your room during the day. One thing I would bring along is a room air freshener because our room was a little musty but we buy the little air fresheners you but for your car’s vents and install one on the air conditioning wall vent in the room and it really does the trick.

Pools/Beach: There are two pools to choose from – family (main) and adult’s only pool. The adult’s only pool has the swim up bar. The main pool is nice but it is for families so if you are a couple the adult’s pool is much better in the long run. The activity staff did play a few games during the day but it felt like they were non existent. The pools did not cool you off in the afternoon because the weather all week long was in the mid - 90’s and the water was luke warm in both pools after 2:00 or so. The beach is not the best we have seen because of the slope from the resort to the water line. As others people has indicated this is not the best beach to walk on. We are beach walkers and we decided to take to the sidewalks outside the front of the resort and walk towards town and around the golf course each morning. Do the walk in the early morning because it was very hot by lunch time…. I do have to say the bay water in Huatulco was much bluer and the sand was lighter than the Ixtapa or Puerto Vallarta beaches we are accustom too on the west coast of Mexico.

Bars: There are two bars outside by the pool, the pool/swim up bar and the beach bar. This year the beach bar was open so that was nice because you have to go into the outside restaurant to get drinks if the swim up bar if you are not in the water. They do have staff serving drinks by the pool and beach each day and they work very hard. The lobby bar opens at 5:00pm and the disco bar that is air conditioned opens at 9:30pm. The one negative we had was that the pool bar did not open until 11:00am most days. In most AI we have stayed at in the past the pool bar is open by 10:00am but you could get mousses at breakfast. With our Premium Club upgrade we had a room off the lobby that we could get continental breakfast, snacks, international liquor, internet, and a lounge. This area was open from 7:00am to 11:00pm for the Premium Club guests (they did move the area for 3 days into the Mexican restaurant because they painted and clean the Club room but that was no problem). The bartenders were just OK at all bars!! We felt that the national/locals were treated better than the Canadians and Americans. The beer on tap was Sol and/or Melodo Dark and they had a few types of premium liquors for the standard all inclusive guests but with the Premium club waist band you get whatever you want including top shelf liquor. With the temperatures in the 90’s all day they should of open the disco bar earlier because it was warm in the open air lobby bar in early evening. Also with the swim up bar in the adult’s only pool the resort staff has to monitor the small children taking over the bar seats. Bring an insulted mug to use during the day. The plastic cups are only 8-10 ounces.

Restaurants: The food was good for all three meals per day and we liked the ala cartes at night (guys need long pants for all of the ala cartes- the resort really needs to look at this requirement because of the temperature I would think a nice pair of golf shorts for men would be acceptable)….. For breakfast it was typical eggs to order, bacon, sausage, fruit, some main dishes, cereal, pastry’s and yogurt. What was a nice touch you could get a mousses at breakfast and the Mexican coffee was really good. For lunch you had a pick between two restaurants – the outside buffet had grilled burgers, hot dogs, pizza, nachos, a few fish dishes and other hot dishes, salads and desserts… The inside restaurant (no wet swimming suits) had fresh choices of fish, meats and pork to be grilled to your liken twice a week. For dinner they had theme nights in the buffet and you could make reservations at the 3 ala cartes but you need to find out by the front desk to see which one is open each night. Out of the ala cartes we liked the Don Q’s (Spanish) the best, then Seafood (beach restaurant) and lastly the Mexican. They do have a sushi restaurant that reservations are not required.

Things that can be improved: A drink board at the pool bar would be a nice touch; the pool bars to open earlier and maybe close at 7:00pm not 6:00 and lastly theme nights by the pool, beach or even in the theater would be a lot of fun!!! Also at other Barceló’s we have visited in the past they have had small drink menus on the tables in the lobby bar.

Overall: We like this resort but it I really feel that guests should watch out for their kids sitting at the swim up bar (should be adults only) and the lobby bar area! This was our second trip to this resort and we hope to return next year and we are thinking of two weeks in February with a few couples from our hometown. For the Premium Club amenity we thought it was really nice but if we had to pay the additional $175 per person it is debatable if we would purchase the upgrade. The one thing that was nice about the Premium Club was you did get free Wi-Fi in your room; you could make your ala carte dinner reservations anytime you want and you were not limited to have dinner at the ala carte restaurants. I think with the standard 7-night package you receive 3 coupons for ala cartes. We met some great people from Canada, so big hello to all!! Ted&Julie – Wisconsin

My wife and I stayed here from April 17-24. As has been said before, the resort is older and is showing it's age some, but is kept immaculately clean. Our room was very large, and the beds very comfortable. The view out of our balcony were breathtaking in the morning. We were fortunate enough to be there when there were not as many North Americans (not that I have anything against us, I just see us all the time!!) and lots of Mexican families, so we felt like we were actually in Mexico. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The evening we checked in, we noticed we were next to the air conditioner units. We asked to be moved and they moved us without any questions. To an ocean view room, which was sweet.

Beach was great, waves were big. Snorkeling suffered a bit for the size of waves, but apparently we were there in the "rough" season which starts in April. But the fishing was great, so that made up for it!

Food was pretty good. The buffet is actually really good, with the only issue being the food is sometimes not really hot. But that seems to be an issue at any buffet. The quality was fine though!

We loved our time there and plan to go back, bringing our teenagers next time, in December. H

We stayed at the Barcelo for 2 weeks April 13 - 27. This was our fourth time to Huatulco and our second time to the Barcelo. The resort is beautiful, and yes, the rooms could use an upgrade, but we had a awesome king bed and a gorgeous view, so were quite happy. The food was good, but usually rather cold at the Dona Rosa Buffet. We found the lunches at the Tortuga were much better and usually hot. We took a bay trip with Tony Lopez and had a great time. His first mate, Charlie, snokeled with us and found us a sea urchin, a puffer fish and an octopus, amoung other sea life. Saw dolphins and sea turtles and caught a few Bonita's. Can't beat the weather in Huatulco and we will definitely be back.

We stayed at the Barcelo from April 10 to 17, 2012.
This was our first stay in Huatulco having previously stayed in numerous other Mexican and Caribbean all inclusive resorts. What really pleased us was how sincerely friendly all of the resort staff were. My husband even lost his shirt on a beach chair and Victor and Leonel had located it for us the next day in their lost and found. Now that's Service! We felt welcome in this resort that had such a local Mexican atmosphere. Congratulations to Signature Vacations in having a great Rep ( James) available throughout the week to provide information and suggestions. They also had a great farewell evening dinner-reception for the Signature/SungWing guests.
Hotel and grounds were very clean. The food generally was very good particularly for breakfast and lunch. The only negative to the dinner buffet was that the food could have been hotter but the pasta bar food was hot.
Two must sees are the towns of Santa Cruz and La Crucecita. Nice market and shops.
Other travellers spoke highly of the 9 Bay Tours
As expected, the weather was exceptional. The ocean was warm and inviting. We found the pool to warm for us but lots of others seemed to enjoy it. They also enforced no children in the Adult Pool area.
We would certainly go back to the Barcelo !

Room Tip: Higher floor seems to be quieter and have better views
