“Great Time”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 13, 2010

Just came back from a great week stay at the Grand Mayan resort. The resort is everything that has been said, great rooms, friendly staff, beautiful views. The pool was just alright, the pool at the Mayan Palace was better and can be reached using the free shuttle. A couple of complaints: the beds were extremely hard and uncomfortable, and the kitchen needed more utensils (very small complaints compared to the great things that could be said). The thatch beach huts were nice but get there early because they are popular. Food at the resort was good but the local food was better. I took the advice from other reviews and hired a driver, this decision made the difference between a good trip and a trip to remember. The driver Baldo Gomez M. quickly became our friend. He can be reached (044)-744-160-1604, or baldo-work@hotmail.com. Baldo is the only driver approved to drive on the Grand Mayan site, if you hire someone else you have to meet them at the road. Baldo's pricing was fair and he was very reliable. We spent the first day touring some local areas (not the commercial areas but the local neighborhoods) and eating great food. Our favorite was the Los Flamingo, have Baldo take you there Thursday night for a local speciality, "Pozole", your tummy will thank you. The trip was fantastic and we will return.

Had a very good time at the Grand Mayan and we were treated wonderfully while we were there but when we drove our rental car into the city to shop and go see the cliff divers; that's when the trouble began. We weren't in downtown more than 3 minutes before being pulled over by the police and told we had "disrespected a crosswalk; a very serious offense senor" Of course, he told us we could either go to the police station or settle this right at the car for only 400 dollars! I had read about this disgusting little scam on Trip Advisor so I told my friend who was driving to insist on going to the police station and do not give these thieves any money. After 15 minutes of threats they finally let us go with a "stern warning".
We decided to just park the car and do some shopping instead. While we were away from the car, it was broken into and we were robbed. Where were the police?
Acapulco, you are driving tourism away! Are you really that stupid?

was at the Grand Mayan from 11-20 to 12-4-2010 and had a great time there most of it. Thanks to K de la rosa from the Mayan Corp. she did a great job of helping with a few problems there. the hotel is great and the service was the best in the 6 years we have been going there. the suite has a little pool on the sun deck that you could use if you did not want to use the pool. but the pool was great and the service at the pool was very good if you got the server "smiley" Meggie Martinez she would be there anytime you need anything not like some of the others that were serving as we tried others and had to wait some time for service from them. every year Smilley has be the best of all at pool or on the beach we will miss her . now for a great tour guide that is goverment trained with the papers and insurance to drive people and will show you both if you ask use Roberto Alarcon he know Acapulco and well just about anywhere around, only problem with him is the Mayan will not let him into the Hotel area to pickup you for some reason they say security or some type of bull. they have Union taxi that they want you to use that may or may not have insurance and some of them over charge you also. if you need a great guide use Roberto Alarcon he will pick you up at the airport take you anywhere you want and you can feel safe he treates you like his family. He know Great place to eat just about anything. By the way he can drop you off at the Hotel but Hotel make him stay out of the area and you ahve to walk out to him but it is a very little walk. I think that Mayan is making a mistake not letting him pickup at the hotel as he has everything that you can need for a great stay at the Mayan. The Grand Mayan did let him pick us up inside on are trip back to the airport but from what we were told this was the first time in his 13 years of service that he was allow in. on one of are returns with him we were even told that we could notdive in with him and they even had a guard there with a M-16 to make sure no one did. a little over kill I think. Mexican Goverment said he was good for tourists but Mayan does not i guess.
also if you plan to do your own landary at the Grand there is no one there to help you as they tok the person out and you have to go to the Jade for service. Guess she cost too much to have there ?
I will have to say tho that the mangement of the Grand Mayan was very helpfull for most of the problem most were small but they did just about anything to try to help you. and if you called Mayan Corp. they even tried harder for some reason. thanks Karan.
we did go to the new Manan Palcce and it looks a lot better is is away from the grand and has its own entry, pool, and water park, all new, only problem is that the brezzes that are at the Grand Mayan are not at the Mayan and the ocean is not there or near but they will tram you there if you like to go there.
All and all the Grand Mayan was the best place to stay and out of all the itme we have gone this time was the best. ANd remember to call Roberto Alarcon before you leave he will return you calls and has the best service of all guides and the saftest of them I think.
There is WiFi in rooms but you need to pay $70 MX per hour to use it.

I just returned from a week's stay at Acapulco's Grand Mayan resort. The resort and grounds are absolutely beautiful and well maintained! I was greated by every staff member I passed with a friendly Mexican smile and salutation. A great place to bring a family with small children or one like ours with adult children. If you like to lay by the pool with peace and quiet there were plenty of beach chairs to take advantage of. Otherwise, if the kids pool, slides and lazy river are more your speed there is a place for that as well! The rooms were spacious, comfortable and elegant. The beds were hard, pillows were large and the air conditioning smelled musty, but I didn't travel to Acapulco to sleep and stay in the room, I traveled there to relax in the sun and enjoy the local attractions. 100% accomplished

After reading many fabulous reviews, my mother contacted Roberto Alacon to be our driver to take us to local restaurants, offer us a city tour, and transportion to and from the airport. I can honestly say that our visit to Acapulco would not have been the same without Roberto and his team! They truely made us feel like VIPs everywhere we went, absolutely PERFECTO!

We spent the Thanksgiving holiday at the Grand Mayan, and had a great time. My wife and I traveled with our two boys, 7 and 9. The resort was very clean and the staff was fantastic. Plenty of room at all the pools, it never felt crowded. We spent lots of time on the beach, which is really nice. If your kids like the ocean, and enjoy some good boogie boarding with some excellent surf, then they will love this! The food was ok. We went off sight a couple of nights. Never felt unsafe at the resort or in the city. We did contact Roberto Alarcon (robertoalrey@yahoo.com.mx) before our trip, for our travel and tour needs while in Acapulco, and he was very reliable and just overall a super guy. If you do want to go into the city, I would certainly recommend him, over grabbing a random cab. We will probably come back to Acapulco again soon!!

I had read all the reviews before going to Acapulco and found Baldo Gomez in so many reviews. I emailed Baldo before the trip and arranged for him to be in charge of our transportation. I am so glad that I listened to all the reviews and contacted Baldo! He was wonderful! He knows everyone. We had dinner at several of his recommended restaurants and they were all great. We hired him for a city tour and he got us the best seats for lunch during the cliff diver show. He made sure that every place we went we were taken care of with the best service. We had 7 people in our group which was never a problem. He had a large SUV that fit us all. He gave us so much information and history of Acapulco. He is very knowledgeable. Acapulco is a beautiful city with friendly people. I highly recommend getting in contact with Baldo at baldo-work@hotmail.com if you are headed to Acapulco. It made our trip wonderful and easy. The Grand Mayan was good too! If you are staying at the Grand Mayan be sure and take the shuttle over to the Mayan Palace. All new, and pools never felt crowded. Lazy river is better at the Mayan Palace too.

As always we enjoyed our stay at the Grand Mayan resort. Because the Mayan Palace has been moved off the beach the resort was uncrowded without feeling empty. We are owners and are happy with our ownership as were the others we met at the resort (as opposed to those who blog on certain websites). This is a great location away from the city so no need for excessive security concerns. There was a nice mix of different nationalities with the majority being, Americans, Mexicans and Mexican-Americans. The food at the restaurants was delicious altho at resort prices. Having a kitchen in our unit saved a lot on food bills.
