We exchanged a week from our timeshare (Intrawest) for a week here. It is just beautiful! From the moment we walked through the main doors we were in heaven. The grounds and pools are just amazing. The restaurants were very good as was the service throughout the resort. We also went to a dinner show that was a lot of fun. We rented a car and also explored several restaurants in the area and they were all good. We went on a tour to some marsh/river to see birds, etc. which also included lunch at a place on the beach. The beach and pools there were not nearly as nice as the Grand Mayan. So while the drive there and back was really interesting, the rest of the tour was not worth it and we wished we had stayed at our resort. The rooms at the Grand Mayan are beautiful and very spacious. We had a huge suite that was essentially a studio plus a 1-bedroom unit. There were two full bathrooms and a big kitchen in the 1 bedroom and as well a kitchenette in the studio. It was too much space for just 2 people but would be perfect for 2 couples or for a family. There was also a dipping pool on the patio. The beach was great and you can take nice walks all along it. We saw the most beautfiul sunsets ever here. Overall we loved our stay here and would stay here again in a heartbeat. It's luxurious and beautiful and a perfect place to take a break from winter.

Note: I've rated a 5 star for location because I like the fact that it's not in the main part of the city and is a quieter area.

We traveled to Acapulco and stayed at the beautiful Grand Mayan. The best and smartest thing we did was contact Benjamin Alarcon in advance and had him pick us up at the Airport. We decided that prior to arranging any tours with him we would check him out first. Let me tell you, he is a delite, speaks fluent english and made our trip stress free . We would normally rent a car while traveling but were concerned about the reports of driving around in Acapulco, now we know why. The traffic is heavy, the rule of the road not easy to follow. Although it first seemed as though we could have arranged group tours a little cheaper, the personal attention and Benjamin's no rush layed back personality allowed us to spend more time sight seeing and got to see things that were off the beaten path. He was always willing to stop at the grocery store, or to stop at the automated teller machines when we had a need to pick up supplies and/or get cash. We had such a good time going to various venues, he made restaurant reservations for us and made sure we had the best table in the house. He knows everyone, no matter where we went we were connected.

This was my first time at a 5 star hotel and man was it Grand. They treated my 74 year old Mother like a priceless gem. She's small, white haired, big blues eyes and hearings on booth ears. They loved to see her smile and learned quickly what she liked. Her coffee strong and her tea weak. Her back to the wall in the restraunt. Does not do well with directions and needs to be kept in the shade. They were more that respectfull and caring. The amenities were great. Jacuzi on the balcony, clean and safe pools and beach. The wading pool that goes from one big pool to another pool was great for easy on the joints exersize. Lots of shade and birds and iquana on the rocks basking in the sun. Fish in the lake to feed. And then their is the Spa. Oh yeah you have to go to the Spa. Take a taxi and get him to do all your driving. I saw everything Iwanted with all the big crowds. Even stopped in at Walmart. You just have to go.

10 floor ocean view, doesn't get better than that. We own at the GM but it was our first time at the GM ACA. Researched the TA site for a taxi/tour guide to hire and picked Sebastian and was very pleased with him. His English is very good and he responded to our initial inquiry with the best prices and Acapulco information. He is a certified tour guide. We arrived Saturday about 2:00 PM and he picked us up at the airport, on time, and promptly delivered us to the GM. We arranged for him to pick us up in a couple of hours to take us out to dinner.
Check in went smooth. We book into a 1 bdrm suite, 850 sq ft of plush accommodations. The GM was not pleased that we turned down the owners breakfast, but a polite "no thank you" and we headed off to our room. All the GM locations have simular room arramgements and we were not sdisapointed with the room, view, cleanlyness, etc.
In short order Sebastian picked us up and took us down the coast South to the Esmirna del Mar restaurant. It is a local establishment that has tables set up under a big palapus. Not much to look at but Sebastain had arrangeed for us to be set up on a private table under a small palapus overlooking the beach, white table cloth, flowers, and later a couple of local minstrals came to sing for us. Wife got the garlic shrimp, really good. I got the grilled smapper. It was huge and the best snapper I have ever had anywhere. We took the leftovers with us and ate snapper tacos for 2 days. On the way back to the GM Sebastian took us by Wal-Mart for some grocery shopping at no extra charge. That's service.
Sunday afternoon Sebastain picked us up for the Aca city tour. First stop was to be at the Peace Chaple, but before we got there we stopped to look at Puerto Marcus, the bay to the South of Aca Bay. He told us the history of the bay area. On to the Peace Chaple where he took pictures of us and shared all the history of not only the chaple but also the family that built it. Then we went to see the Flamingo Hotel, the wall with the ceramic mural, and the cliff divers. At every stop he told us all the historical background about what we were seeing. After the Flamingo Hotel we ate dinner. We insisted that Sebastian join us. What a great decision that was. During dinner he told us about all the discoveries that the scientists have recently made during examinations of Juan Deago's Tilma with the image of "Our Ladu of Guadalupe". Great stuff, he is very knowledgable.
Spent the next couple of days at the resort. Pool and ocean were great. This week was probably the slowest week in the year. Resort almost empty, but that made it easy to enjoy the pools, beach, restaurants, etc. without having to experience the crowds. Staff like all the GMs was great. Rooms were always took care of, cleaned, bed turn down, etc...
Wednesday Sebastian took us to Tasco. They are woorking on the freeway. It will be a great road when completed, but it is currently like all detours. We stopped at a restaurant on the way for breakfast. Great food and reasonable priced. Avbout $8.00 ea for breakfast. When we got to Tasco we toured 3 silver shops, one with a factory tour which was interesting and informative. Beautiful silver jewlery. Wife couldn't resist, but the silver there comes for mines that have been producing silver for 1000 years and used to be the Aztec mines. Next we were off to the cathedral. 12 alters with intricate gold leaf covered carvings, paintings by the "Meachel Angelo of Mexico", paintings of bibical scenes that are the only ones in the world. Great stuff. Finally lunch and them the drive back. It was a 12+ hour day but one we were glad we took.
The rest of our time we spend at the resort. Walks on the beach and in the pools. The pool is very long which makes for great walks. One day while walking we spotted dalphins playing in the surf out in front othe resort. Did the Lazy River Friday morning which was fun. Friday we also ate the breakfast buffet which has a great variety of delicious choices, $199 MX.
Sebastian picked us up Saturday Morming and back to the Airport we went, headed home. It was a great trip and Sebastian made a special contribution to it. Besideshis very good English my wife is fluent in Spanish. He engaged her in conversation and let her get a Spanish language fix.

If you want to have fun along with your family; then this is the place to be! We never thought we would have so much fun during this trip mostly because the weather outlook didn’t look to good. Since they say September is the rainy season and all. The Grand Mayan is the most beautiful Resort we have ever been to. We thought the @@ in Cancun was the best “Not no more”!

The room we stayed at was the Big Grand Master Suite; with an ocean view, just tip the front desk clerk and you get what you want! Our suite had the round patio pool with two connecting rooms. We recommend floor levels 4 and up anything under that you get palm trees for a view. At the Mayan there are so many amenities that you need a full week to do all. Now the city of Acapulco is full of other great things to see and do so a Driver is a must or you will get lost or loose out on so many things. Our Driver, Roberto Alarcon was the most honest and welcoming person down there. With out him we wouldn’t have gotten VIP treatment at many hot spots. We got to see, eat, and do many great things because of him. We have kids or should I say “picky eaters” so he knew just the right places for us Adults and them.

We highly recommend the City Tour. Roberto knows the whole city and has all the information you need about everything you will see. The best part about the tour is the Big Tequila bottle that we kept on drinking that made it the best adventure ever. As they say in the other reviews Roberto is the best and it is true. There are many Drivers to choose from down there but he is Honest and affordable. So thanks to Trip Adviser reviews because he is what they say; The best.
