What a great family trip!! The hotel and amentities were amazing (minus the Burgers, got food posioning). Had the best tour Guide possible. Make sure to hire Roberto Alarcon. He is Acapulco's best!! The guided tour he gave us was outstanding. Was waiting for us with a big smile when we arrived. Also Gerry @ the Activities Hut at the resort treated my son like he was family. What a great place to go for vacation. Vendors on the beach were a little overwhelming at times. (They don't give up easy). Make sure to negotiate

I went to Acapulco with no expectations. The Grand Mayan is a nice resort. Good for people who want to get there and relax. There are not a lot of things to do outside of the resort unless you want to fish, golf, or join the nightlife. What made the trip memorable were the people. The hotel staff were extremely friendly, helpful, and could communicate in English which I appreciated. One of the best things we did was sign up for a city tour. The taxi driver scheduled for our tour, Baldo Gomez, became our personal tour guide for the week. Not only did he takes us to all the highlights but his love of his home town was unmistakable. Ask for him by name. It will be worthwhile.

The hotel is very beautiful and well kept. Rooms are large and there are rooms with kitchenette (taxi ride to Walmart is about 11 dollars round trip where you can get anything you wish for cooking). There are 3 hotel in the complex with shuttle between them. The pool is to die for (I would say it is almost 3/4 of a km long) and there is even a water park. Meals are on the pricy side but great tasting. Hotel provides activities at night such as movies, dj, carnival night, etc. but start late. Staff is friendly and courteuos. The beach is not what I expected, waves are two high and there is a great risk for drowning for non swimmers, good for sun bathing. There is an artificial lake where you can kayak. It is 30 minutes from downtown Acapulco, Expect to pay about 22 dollars for taxi one way. Rooms are serviced twice a day. Breakfast buffet not worth the price.

Room Tip: Choose a room with kitchenette

My boyfriend and I went to Acapulco for an anniversary vacation and stayed at the Grand Mayan 5/18 to 5/25/2013. We were thoroughly impressed from beginning to end and really enjoyed our stay in this gorgeous area of Mexico. It's obvious how beautiful the resort is from the minute you walk in and every staff member is extremely helpful and kind from the get-go. Check in was a breeze, which is good because we had been flying all day and were exhausted. You have to wear a bracelet your entire stay which I guess would be my only big complaint. I understand why they have to do it, but the bracelet had a sharp edge and I ended up accidentally scratching myself on the daily. Also, it didn't make for a pretty tan line. Haha.

We stayed in a studio and it was the perfect size for us. The AC was glorious and I took a hot bath in the jacuzzi tub every day after swimming in the excellent pools and lazy river. The room did smell a little musty at first, but that is understandable with the heat. We only noticed it when we first came in and after that, the wonderful cleaning staff kept the room fresh and clean. Our first full day we ended up going to the time share meeting because the lure of 10% off our entire bill was too enticing to say no to. My boyfriend found it fascinating and was actually a little interested, but we are in our early-mid 20s and just not ready for that kind of financial investment. Maybe someday though and the 10% off was totally worth it. We ended up being under budget at the end of our stay, which was great.

We really wanted this vacation to relax and do some sight-seeing and we were able to do both better than expected. The Grand Mayan staff really takes care of you and makes sure you want for nothing. The poolside service is great, especially at happy hour! Every morning we would wake up and wander down to Cafe Del Lago for the breakfast buffet. They had everything you could want, including an omelette bar with all the fixings and the delicious and mysterious "green juice" or jugo de verde (I want the recipe!). We sat outside on the patio every time and were extremely impressed with the service of the waiters. They were friendly, helped me with my awful Spanish, and delivered great service. They were truly a great group of guys and gals. We definitely recommend the "Gourmet Experience" meal coupons if you will be eating a lot on the resort. It saves you so much money and is really a no brainer. You can use them at any resort-affiliated restaurant (including at the yummy Italian place, Il Forno Di Gio and Mayan Palace's Samba) and it discounts the meals on special theme nights like Lobster Night or Prime Rib Night. It doesn't include room service, but the couple times we used room service the prices were very reasonable, the food delicious, and the service excellent. A super nice guy came in both times and set up the food as if our room was a restaurant. Overall, we really enjoyed the resort food and only ate elsewhere twice. One of those places was 100% Natural across the street from the Grand Mayan entrance. They had free wifi so we went there once to check in with our families as wifi is a little pricey at the resort. It is available though and the Internet Cafe in Mondo has reasonable hourly rates if you want to stay on the resort.

The resort is right on the ocean which is nice, but it is definitely a rough sea. We ended up skipping a swim in it, but enjoyed listening to it/looking at it and sitting in a cabana reading and watching the sun set. If you ever get bored and need a change of scenery, there is a free shuttle service to the Mayan Palace, where you get full access to all of their services, pools, etc. We loved the poolside bar there and had a really great day sipping Coronas, piña coladas, and strawberry daiquiris in the sun and pool.

Acapulco isn't really complete without trustworthy, friendly, and knowledgeable transportation and we found all of these qualities and more in the wonderful tour guide, Sebastian Hernandez. I highly highly highly recommend him to anyone thinking of stepping a toe off of the resort as he made us feel safe, comfortable, and we learned so much about the beautiful Acapulco from him. We did his City Highlights Tour and especially enjoyed the breathtaking views from the lovely Chapel of Peace (Capilla de la Paz) and its bilingual parrot inhabitants (I got a kick out of these beautiful birds) and the proposal story behind Diego Rivera's amazing mosaic wall mural. We loved it so much that we also signed up for the Ecotour with a romantic sunset dinner at Esmirna del Mar, which was also a 10 out of 10! Read my review of Sebastian for more info and contact him directly at acapulcofor_all@yahoo.com.

Overall, our vacation was an absolute dream come true and was super fun, romantic, interesting, and exciting. I never wanted to leave, but I will always have the amazing memories thanks to the Grand Mayan Acapulco and Sebastian Hernandez!

Room Tip: The higher the floor, the better. Odd numbers are golf course, even are oceanside. Can't go wron...

after a long flight from england some 26 hours,3 planes, manchester to amasterdam to new mexico to acapulco ,taxi ride only 20 mins away and 23 dollars, checking in at midnight ,took some 45 mins to check in,not impresssed!
the room was lovely plenty of room,we was surprised how quite the place was, breakfast was ok buffet stile, the pools very good, beach nice and clean, but you do get pestered by sellars !
we walked an hour in each direction very safe ,no problems.
the town is a little run down in places, your better off going to la isle shopping centre, nice shops and resturants and bars,go to carlos bar,a lovely meal and twice and cheap as the hotel,
most places in the hotel was shut, the bar near the receiption was shut, the resturant also shut,
only 2 open the whole time we was there,my advise go la isle or the itialian resturant down the road, which is nice, beware of some of taxi s,as they do pesture you, also beware that bottle of water they leave in your room wich will cost you 20 dollars and the coffee they charge you 40 dollars all which you think are compiltmentry until you see the bill.
but all in all a nice quite break.

Room Tip: sea facing ,great view.

My sister, I and one of my daughters went to Alcapulco over Spring break. We had a great time. We arranged to be picked up at the airport by Roberto Alarcon, whom we found through Trip Advisor. He was the BEST! He greeted us with a big smile, was always so cheerful and a pleasure to be with and at the same time, very professional. We actually hired him to be our driver during our stay. He drove us to a Walmart to get a few things before heading to the hotel. He recommended great dinner places and took care of making reservations and getting us there. We went to a pasta restaurant, La Casa de la Pasta, where the pasta is freshly made and so delicious, dinner on the beach where they had the BEST garlic shrimp and lobster (my daughter is not a seafood eater and she loved the shrimp) and 2 restaurants on the hills with a great view of the bay and a BEAUTIFUL sunset. He took us on 2 great tours, including seeing the Archaelological ruins, as well as the city and the cliff diver show. Despite hearing stories about how unsafe Alcapulco is, Roberto made us feel very safe. The weather was beautiful-dry and in the 80's. We stayed at the Grand Mayan; beautiful place, staff was courteous and friendly. However they clean and fix our room late in the afternoon which was an inconvenience because sometimes we come back to our room in the afternoon they're still cleaning. Our room was nice but not in a great location. It was on the 2nd floor with a street view and above the night club which meant we had heard the LOUD music into the late night. The restaurants was ok based on the menu, we tried Cade de Lago which was fine if you didn't want to leave the resort. The hotel had a nice pool, lazy river is really laaazy and was located on the beach which was convenient but public so there were many solicitors but all you had to do is say no, although they keep coming back. You should get out there early to get one of the canopy on the beach to get shade because it gets hot in the afternoon. The water was a bit rough with a strong undercurrent as well as shallow unless you travel very far out. The ATVs on the beach was fun. Try to do it early when there's less people walking around the beach. My daughter and I went on it twice and had a blast. The massages on the beach for $20 was well worth it. I would recommend staying at this resort (but request for a room on the upper room with an ocean or pool view) and hiring ROBERTO ALARCON to be your driver and tour guide!

Room Tip: Get a room with pool /ocean view and upper floors.

We Just visited this resort from 05/03/2013- 05/11/2013. Party of 4 and had such a wonderful trip to Acapulco, (a first for both of us). The grounds of the hotel are nicely maintained and beautifully landscaped. There are lots of nice touches, very clean and well staffed. Everyone on the staff was wonderful and all spoke English and the amenities were overwhelming. The service was professional, warm and welcoming. We were celebrating 3 birthdays on our party and we had a fantastic time for 7 days. We would definitely return!

The weather was great everyday, high 80's the entire week with very little clouds. almost deserted beach, 80+ degree ocean and is a strong undertow at the beaches along this area. This quiet oasis is just what we were looking for. Located on the strip of the best hotels in Acapulco. We spent a lot of time in the pool area being in the water or just laying on the lounge chairs, the pool staff was wonderful, you will not want for anything, great service and people.

We opted for pre-arranging private transportation and got our vacation off to a great start, we booked Sebastian Hernandez online via his website acapulcoforall.com What a tremendous choice! Sebastian was wonderful and a pleasure to be with. He took us on his Acapulco City Highlights, and The Archaeological ruins as well as "Dinner on the Beach". Just fabulous! Ignore your hotel concierge's recommendation for a tour guide, as you can tell from the previous reviews Sebastian Hernandez is great. Our unforgettable day was when Sebastian took us on the Archaeological ruins which is a must.( Read my separate review about deatails of those tours we did and restaurants as well).

We enjoyed the set up for the the beach and pool, easily accessible and again very clean. Just a great place and very Family Friendly. The resort has several restaurants on site. The restaurant Cade de Lago was priced very affordable and the staff there was again just wonderful. We did nor find anything on the resort overpriced, very fair.
Summary: I think, beside the property, the most spectacular thing about this resort is, the employees! They are all top notch and ready to please and make you comfortable!
This was our first visit and we are so glad it won't be our last!

Room Tip: Rooms on the West side view the Ocean, pool and grounds. The East side is a view of the Sister Mayan...
