We had a driver, Roberto Alarcon, who was excellent. He was accommodating, gracious, very affordable, and very knowledgeable of restaurants and tours to which to go which were local and not so touristy. Of course, he knew much about the touristy restaurants and areas, too. I would highly recommend him. His e-mail address is: robertoalrey@yahoo.com.mx.

The Grand Mayan was superb. See my ratings below. The service was impeccable; food on site was delicious; atmosphere was very friendly. This is our third time to visit the Grand Mayan and we would highly recommend it.

Our family recently completed our first trip to Acapulco and the Grand Mayan and we were very pleased with the accommodations and thrilled with the weather... 88-90 degrees each day with no rain. My wife and I took our son (16) and daughter (18) and two girlfriends (both 18). There weren't a lot of teenagers at the resort while we were there (March 23-30) but the kids enjoyed the pools, lazy river and beach.

Grand Mayan is right on the beach, while Mayan Palace is on the golf course. Golf-cart shuttles run back and forth and you can use both properties. Our kids liked the pools at Mayan Palace and felt it had a better lazy river.

Miguel Zequeida, known as Miguel #4 is one of the taxi drivers for Grand Mayan. He has a veru nice suburban and is a life-long resident and knows everything about Acapulco. He gave us his cel number and we called him for everything we wanted, including taking us shopping, to dinner, to the grocery, etc... I needed some pain pills for my back and he took me to the pharmacy and even went and got me more when I needed it. He took us for a city tour, which included seeing famous people's houses... Stallone, Swartzenegger and Gates... to the cliff diving and to the market. When the girls wanted a late night out in town, he took them out and waited until they came out and brought them home. If you are headed to Grand Mayan, you can reach him by email at acapulcomikehome@live.com.mx.

The drivers from Grand Mayan are a necessity if you really want to see Acapulco. They can set you up at local restaurants, give you tours, take you shopping, etc... We felt this was also the safest way to go. These guys know the area inside and out, just tell them what you want to see.

Grand Mayan has you go through the standard timeshare sale, but we didn't feel any real pressure to buy. It helped that we already owned a timeshare (Grand Luxxe in Nuevo Vallarta) from the same company.

When we didn't upgrade the timeshare, Joel asked us if we wanted to do a day-long boat trip while we were there. We ended up doing it for $120 per person and it was a lot of fun. The views from the water are amazing and the excursion included sight-seeing, snorkling, swimming, jet skiis and cliff divers...

The cliff divers are a must see... we saw them from above as part of the city tour, then from the water in the boat excursion. They not only dive off from like 150 feet up, they also climb the cliff to get there. They have to wait until the tide comes in to jump as the water is only 10 feet deep before the tide. It cost 60 pesos to watch from a covered area up top and they asked for donations from the people in the boat. The girl who came to our boat happened to be the first girl to dive from the top.

There wasn't a lot of shopping like in other Mexico vacations we have had. There were a few flea markets but the cab driver said less and less people are setting up in Acapulco.

The restaurants at the hotel are good, but we elected to have our driver take us to places with scenic views or local flavor. The view of the bay from Senor Frogs was really special... especially at sunset.

There is a lot of building going on and the resort promises to be much better with the addition of Grand Luxxe buildings in the next couple years. I would definitely recommend the resort and don't forget Miguel... he made the vacation!

We had no expectations going tom Acapulco. My family of four- 13 and 11 year old boys- all needed a rest. We had a few very stressful years. We were told of all the dangers of Acapulco- and found none!! We noticed that no one displayed wealth or labels- probably to avoid trouble. The Grand Mayan exceeded expectations. The room, service, views and facilities were fabulous. The musty smell I read thet others mentioned disappeared as soon as the ac went on. The massages on the beach for $20 by Maria and her daughter exceeded expectations and were better than any massage I ever had in NYC or around the world. The atv's on the beach were loved by my sons but you need to supervise your children well because the vendors don't. BUT the main enhancement of our trip was our guide and driver- ROBERTO ALCARON. I found him by reading reviews on TA and can"t say enough about him. He was professional , likeable, knowledgable and an absolute pleasure to do business with. I am usually a control freak and plan and research all. I left all up to Roberto and he did superbly!!!!!! I will gladly be a reference and would use his services again unquestionably!!
Acacpulco was as beautiful and pleasant as the South of France

This is the first time we have stayed at a Mayan Palace. In the past, we have always stayed at The Grand Mayan. I will admit, I was worried it would not be as nice. I was wrong. Our hotel was beautiful, the pool was great, and the service was excellent. The only negative was that sometimes we could smell garbage on the property. But it was only a few times.

The beach is located at The Grand Mayan. This was not a big deal at all. The shuttles runs often and we even walked a couple times. It was great to have the option of the beautiful pools or the beach.

Acapulco was wonderful. Before our trip we looked on trip advisor and read so many reviews about using BALDO GOMEZ for our tour guide. So we contacted him prior to our trip and he was at the airport waiting when we arrived. He made our trip into a vacation we will never forget! Baldo was very professional, accommodating, reliable, and attentive. BUT even better he felt like a friend. He listened to our requests and adjusted his tour to fit our family's interest. 2 of our kids speak spanish and Baldo did a great job in encouraging them to use Spanish. We spent 2 days with Baldo and saw a variety of things. He even surprised us with a stop at a Sea Turtle rescue and we were able to release baby sea turtles. So fun!

I would highly recommend contacting BALDO GOMEZ AT baldo-work@hotmail.com before arriving to Acapulco.

Just came back from a week at the Grand Mayan Acapulco. Restaurants were not plentiful, but Cafe Del Lago had both delicious food and excellent and friendly service. The resort was very quiet after spring break, and the nights are a little too low key. Ocean view was beautiful from the tenth floor, but there is not much to do unless you take side trips. Our suite was spacious and adequately appointed, but the English TV was very sparce. Carlos Alegria, our tour guide/driver was terrific! He showed us around downtown and Old Town Acapulco, Taxco, and made some great restaurant suggestions. He was very knowlegeable, his English was great, and he was a pleasure to be with. He was always with us, he was prompt, and we felt safe with him.

Room Tip: You want ocean view, not construction view. The tenth floor was great!

stunning property with 1st class facilities.we had two 2 bed apartments one with sea view and one of road/golf course,we had to agree to a 90min sales presentation to get the sea view but all 5 of us got a free breakfast and 80 dollar room credit. The apartments are amazing, large bedrooms and bathrooms, the lock off unit has a jacuzzi in the bedroom and the 1 bed unit has a small pool on the balcony.rooms are cleaned every day to a high standard and even a bed turn down service is included.valet parking is available but we just used the secure resort carpark about 200m away.security is excellent and staff are lovely.the entertainments team Angel,Gerry,Salvador,Hermes and Julie were fantastic, organising lots of events for adults and children but didn`t hassle you to take part if you didn`t want to.The whole resort is kept immaculate and well maintained and benefits from a private stretch on the beach with plenty of palapas and sunloungers.the waterpark is really for kids but the lazy river was fun.resort only changes US dollars so we went to Santander just down the road from the main entrance next to mega supermarket and had no problem changing sterling but they do require you take your passport.the girls particuarly enjoyed the pool spin 3 days a week.we didn`t use the gym or spa which although 5 star had 5 star prices.the kitchen is adequate to prepare baisic food and cocktails but having a car we went out every night.we had no problems driving around the city and also drove to taxco which was breathtaking.petrol is cheap compared to the UK.

Great place. Nicely furnished and well appointed rooms. Common areas very nice as well. Can use shuttle to Mayan Palace for pools which are beautiful -- and there is a swim-up bar there.

Staff is exceptional. The waiters were very friendly. On our last day, they shook hands and thanked all of us.

Arranged transportation and tour with Sebastian from Acapulco For All. (www.acacpulcoforall.com) He was prompt and efficient. Totally can show you the ropes and give you the inside information. He also recommended a couple of restaurants and provided transportation. Really takes the hassle and worry out of those things. Did the 1/2 day tour with him. It's great. You hit all the notable city sights (and he knows his way around so can avoid traffic and construction). There are other tour guides as well, but with Sebastian, we always got to each destination first, had premier parking and were in front of everyone else.

There is a lot of bad press about Acapulco and people warned me about going. The Grand Mayan is in the new area called the Diamond coast. It's very nice and safe.
