We spent one week at the Grand Mayan with my cousin and his wife. The view from our room overlooked the golf course on the east side (opposite side of the beach). We had a grand suite which is a unit with an extra bedroom connected by a common door. We had to call almost every day to have the second bedroom serviced.
The balance of the time spent was good and the food was also good. We have only been to Acapulco one time and maybe all resorts and hotels have the same issue, but while we spent time on the brach we were constantly being approached by the locals who were trying to sell anything from horse back rides, hats and ladies swim suite coverups.
The week was a great time and as always the weather was constantly sunny and 90-96 degrees every day.

We spent only one week at the Grand Mayan, but it was a wonderful trip. Acapulco is a safe and beautiful place and the Grand Mayan provided for an excellent retreat. We were able to enjoy the secluded more quiet part if Acapulco at the Mayan, yet still were able to to the short ride to downtown to experience the hustle and bustle as well
As the history and beauty of Acapulco Bay! Do yourself a favor and contact Benjamin Alarcon for a safe, comfortable and friendly tour service or simply airport pickup/ drop off, or dinner transportation. Benjamin was awesome. We spent a full day on a wonderful tour with Benjamin and an additional day fishing for Doroda and Sail Fish and we caught! Benjamin rocks and in a short time became a dear friend. He loves Acapulco and loves what he does so it really makes the experience well worth the small price. Very reasonable, safe, amd friendly!

We (me, my daughter, and her friend) arrived after midnight on Saturday evening, January 19. After reading other reviews, complaining about check-in and rooms not ready, apparently this is a good time to arrive, lol.. no lines, rooms were ready! Service from the housekeeping staff, to the pool attendants, and all others is wonderful. No complaints on service--5 stars for service. Pool facilities were okay. Compared to the pools at the Grand Mayan Riviera Maya, the Acapulco pools need be improved. No swim-up bars or pool loungers in the water. Basically, just an average resort pool. We did not venture over to the Mayan Palace pools but we heard they were better. I couldn't vouch for that. Restaurants were just okay. Not much choice since one of them seemed to be closed the entire time (Baikul). The breakfast buffet was the best--very good. Rooms were very nice except for an odd musty smell. In fact, when I came home, my clothing still had that musty smell to them. But, you get used to it. We had a 2 bedroom, 2 bath set-up with a small kitchen and nice sized combo dining/living room area. Balcony was huge with a small "splash" pool on the deck. This set-up is perfect if you have 6-8 people since there are 2 sleeper sofas in the living room, one in each of the bedrooms, plus a king-sized bed in each bedroom. Ideal for a family. Now for the "other" things: Temperature was WONDERFUL--upper 80's, low 90's, perfecto! Beach was nice but not as nice as the Caribbean beaches. However, one recommendation. You MUST get a daily massage from the women on the beach. Heavenly! They had massage tables set up under shade, next to the ocean, so you had the wonderful sound of the ocean and cool breezes to be pampered. The massages were an hour of total relaxation. But the best part... they were only $20 US for the entire hour. Of course, we tipped $5 for each of us but where can you get an hour massage (almost as good as you get in any high-priced salon but without all the added "luxuries" that you pay for) for $20? We did the massages each day (after we found out about them) and was almost tempted to come back for a second time each day. Remember also that you can bring your beach towel down to lay on instead of using the ones supplied by the women. Great deal! Now, on to the highly recommended driver that we used for this week. We had heard great reviews for Roberto Alarcon and thought we would arrange for him to be our personal tour guide for this trip. We emailed Roberto (you can contact me for the email address) a couple of months before our trip to make sure that he would be available. His English is superb and his timely emails were a blessing. We gave him our flight number and he was waiting at the airport on arrival to pick us up, even after a delay of more than an hour. It helped so much that he took the pressure off of us in getting cabs, etc. His van was extremely clean and very nice. Typically, he would stop at the Wal-Mart to let you stock up on some food, drinks, etc. but since it was so late, he made arrangements to pick us up the next morning to take us there. This was so helpful! We used Roberto's services for dining reservations (he arranged the reservations himself--we just told him where we wanted to go), touring the city, seeing the cliff divers, doing the lagoon/jungle tour, pretty much anything you wanted to do. And, ALWAYS, with a warm and friendly smile. Very, very gracious host. You cannot go wrong with using Roberto if you are wanting someone you can depend on and is totally trustworthy. We would use him again in a heartbeat if and when we come back to Acapulco. You are the best, Roberto!! We miss you already! He helped us to have a wonderful vacation and create a bunch of great memories. Overall, this was a great trip.

Room Tip: Rooms on upper floors have better views of ocean and pools, although all rooms have good views. Bring a good sleep/sound machine to help block out doors slamming, people talking, etc.

The resort is immaculate. The staff were very attentive to our needs, always answering questions with smiling faces. The housekeeping staff were the BEST at their job compared to any of the other places we've ever stayed throughout Canada, USA & Mexico.
We met some wonderful friends and hosted them for dinner in our room - we did most of our own cooking - the restaurants on site and off site were very good value.
The temp was 88 on avg during the day and the ocean breezes at night were very refreshing to sleep by.
An amazing tour guide (Roberto) took us up to an ancient Mayan site in the mountains which was being restored by the archelogists from the University in Mexico City. Roberto was very friendly, helpful and knowledgable about the Mayan culture and we learned a lot from him during the tour. He also arranged a fresh fish dinner on the beach for us along with 2 new friends we met at the resort. The evening was magical as we watched the sun set over the Pacific and enjoyed the meal, beverages and conversation.
The fitness centre at the Mayan is the best equipped facilty that I've ever worked out in; long walks in the afternoon along the beach; chatting with the fishermen and vendors and swimming in the ocean as well as the pools, and reading the Stieg Larson Trilogy (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and the other 2) rounded out our days of 3 glorious weeks of nothing but sunshine!
We had an ocean view room, on the 8th floor and watched as large container or cruise ships sailed by, or the small shrimp boats going out at night and returning in the early morning hours while we sat and watched the sunrise/sunsets.
In summary: a beautiful resort staffed by beautiful friendly people and amazing weather, good reads, wonderful food, very relaxing, meeting new friends - what more could a person ask for?

Room Tip: We enjoyed the ocean view rooms both times we been to Acapulco Grand Mayan. We very seldom used the A/C as the ocean breezes were very nice.

my family and another one spent 1 week at the resort. Overall, we had a great time. Checking in was not really positive; wegot there at noon, but check in is at 5; when we got a at 5, we were told that our room would not be ready until 7 pm. the attendant that we had spoken before, Cristo< was there, but when he saw that we were frustrated, he left the area.
the room is fantastic, the swimming pool in the balcony is great. the room had a small kitchenette. the stove did not work well, but everything else was good. the major problem with the room was the noise at night; we were three floors above Mondo, the bar-restaurant-club and at night, we could listened to the music.
The food in the hotel was not good. we tried 3 restaurants and we were not really happy with them. the best thing that we had was the breakfast buffett :)
The worst experience was at Mondo when we ordered the hazelnut crepes for dinner. we ordered 3; the three of them had green dots. we thought it was cilantro, the manager stated that it was CILANTRO!!! the manager stated that they make the dough for the crepes in the morning..... why wouldn't they make them fresh at night. At the beginning, they did not want to admit that anything was wrong. at the end, the manager apologized and gave us a free one.
we liked the swimming pool for the kids, but the swimming pool is under construction. so, for adults, we did not have a swimming area per se. The mayan palace had it with a nice pool bar that we used. Before the trip, i contacted Roberto Alocorn, great guy who delivers what promises. if you go to acapulco, contact him. he took us to wlamart, we took a city tour with him and drove us to the restaurants. i am posting 3 other reviews about acapulco. By the way, the best hing about the hotel is that it is right on the beach.
