Our stay at La Rosa was a dream come true! The property is a lovely little oasis filled with coconut palms, some fruits trees and flowering bougainvilla. Almost everything was handmade ...the casitas, the furniture, mosaic tile art, blankets. We stayed in the Bamboo Casita and absolutely loved everything about it including the waterfall shower and the beautiful hand carved ironwood bed. We even had a basket full of organic fruits thoughtfully provided by Gail, the owner of La Rosa. We had fresh coconut water and meat straight from the trees on the property, fresh squeezed orange juice and simple delicious meals. We watched gorgeous sunsets every evening, went for walks on the beach and played with our 10 month old baby. We loved the sound of the ocean waves at night.
The best thing about La Rosa is Gail. She is such an interesting, inspiring person! We loved listening to her wonderful life stories! She has done so much and lived a life of her own choosing. She's done most of work at La Rosa with her own hands (including much of the stonework, mosaic art, murals). She is making a positive contribution to the fishing village by employing locals, providing resources for the kindergarten and even paying the local baseball team to clean up the baseball field. Since we didn't have a car, Gail even took us to see the petroglyphs one afternoon.. The petroglyphs are amazing! There are so many huge volcanic boulders with distinct engravings of spirals, little men with light rays coming out of their (evolved or enlightened beings) and all kinds of plants, animals and other symbols. Our last day was Christmas eve and we were sent off with a plateful of delicious baked cakes and cookies :) And, Gail had been baking for days - enough to share with the children of the village and friends in Mazatlan!
It was a delightful experience overall and we will definitely go back one day with friends and family :)

Our stay at La Rosa exceeded our expectations by leaps and bounds. Gail and the staff absolutely bent over backward to meet our every wish. Want a massage? It's yours. Pina colada on the beach? Done. Want a lobster dinner waiting for you after you get back from your guided kayak tour of the estuary? No problem.
We can't say enough about our stay. We felt pampered, relaxed, and completely taken care of the entire time.

This place is awesome, you get to stay in an amazing garden paradise on the beach in a tiny Mexican town with very few other tourists. There are stunning beaches, kayaking, mountain bikes, surfing, playing volleyball/baseball/soccer with the locals, or just strolling pleasantly about.

I would highly recommend a visit to La Rosa in Barras de Piaxtla. The facility was comfortable and clean and the service that Gail provided to us was nothing less than 5 star.

Barras de Piaxtla is a quite fishing village north of Mazatlan. I found the people in the community to be very friendly and helpful. One should know at least some Spanish as very few in the community spoke English. The village is very quite and peaceful.

We were able to get what we needed at the tiendas and fresh tortillas that were hot when we purchased them. Fresh lobster is available and we did a bottom fishing trip that provided us with a great meal of fresh snapper.

We hope to return soon.

We have been here twice, and both times Gail the owner, has taken wonderful care of us both times. When we were married she allowed our guests to check out later than usual since she had no reservations for that day and use all the equipment she had.

Gail arranged for her staff, on very short notice, to cook before, for, and clean up after the wedding, for a very reasonable charge.

We will be back, if we come to Mexico next year! Great place !
