I went here with a group during the day while passing through Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. We were looking for authentic Mexican items to buy for family/friends. The variety is extensive. There are great shops for hats, silver, trinkets, etc. Likewise, there are plenty of shops offering the standard tourist items. I was very pleased with the purchase of some silver jewelry and a few other items (hat and wallet). I can say there is a lot of room for bargaining with the shop owner. Don't be afraid to walk away and come back later. This can garner some real deals -- prices seem to drop if you start walking toward the door. But don't give into the pressure. And trust your "gut feeling" about walking into the various shops. If the shop is clean, well-lit, people milling around, go in. If it is dirty, in the shadows with no one around -- I wouldn't enter the place. This is a very large complex of street shops -- two stories in many places. Be careful in that you can certainly get into some areas or shops that seem a bit seedy, off the beaten path. Remember, you're in Mexico and try to stay primarily with the crowds to be safe.
