Owner description: Wooded park on the top of a mountain overlooking the city of Monterrey; a great place to bike, hike and jog.

A beautiful park in the mountains above Monterrey Mexico. Stunning views, beautiful trails (and challenging). The coati, an animal native to this area, is plentiful and friendly. There are cozy (and romantic) cottages in the park, and an excellent restaurant. This park is great for 1 week getaway, or a 1 day excursion. Our party had small children, and everyone had a wonderful time. They also have a long smooth concrete slide that all ages enjoyed.

Being a local I use to go almost every weekend to this park. I love hiking and Chipinque is always a great option to disconnect from the bustle of the city. The best time to go if you rather like a tranquil walk is early morning when most of the people go to make some exercise. They have a free great yoga class sundays 9 AM. During weekends after 10 AM its crowd change and it mix with regulars looking for a place to have a Sunday picnic and entrance and parking start to form lines.

Best of the place if you looking to hike is that you have different grades, from really easy slopes to controlled accents to the peaks of the park (la "M" and "Copete de las Aguilas", that requires a special permit and takes around 6 hrs round walk on grades of about 25%.

If you looking for a sunday with kids they have a really nice place on the top with some big concrete slides, an insectarium, some picinics area with different kid's playgrounds and where they can interact with squirrels and coaties that walk free around the place.

Chipinque had been doing really cool events to educate people about nature and cultural events as well, like jazz nights and movie nights.

A great place to go to when in the city!

This is close to city center. There seems to be only one trail from the bottom half of the park to the top half. I imagine that's why most pay 110 pesos to get to the top half and hike from there. (The hikes at the top are various. We did not dWe paid 60 pesos and took the trail. It was very nice. It'd be important to be in ok shape. You certainly don't have to be in great condition but you are climbing a mountain. The trail was well attended and if you plan to return, the road provides great views but for all the switchbacks it makes a long walk. The fastest way back is the trail. There were nice bathrooms at some of the verandas and water fountains in various areas around the park.

I regret not visiting Chipinque before. Now i come back everytime I am in Monterrey!!
It's a perfect spot to forget about the city, the place is great if you bring your own car and stop in the different views until the top of the hill. Very safe place, lots of families and security; but even with that, its very private and you can easily have a romantic/quiet picnic in one of the amazing benches surrounded by beautiful nature. There are some animals too, i have only seen raccoons.
Don't miss visiting Chipinque ;)

A great place to get a real sense of Monterrey and the amazing mountains around it. We came here on a locals recommendation from Tec de Monterrey to the park was about 25 minutes in a cab. The entrance fee was 20 pesos per person so really nominal and you pay at a gate. You can also into with your car and drive to the top but we elected to walk one in the exercise and the experience.

The hiking path is surprisingly steep it was a warm day but cool in the shade and the bottom section was quite busy with lots of families all the people as well as Fitness Junkies.

Once you never got this though it opens up and there are number of awesome places to take pictures of Monterrey.

A couple of easy tips take some water and snacks but also take a picture of the trail map if your Spanish is poor to help navigate on the way up the hill.

Highly recommend as a short half day trip to get out of the city at a sense of the mountains we left at about 9:30 will be back by 12:30 and really felt like we done something the locals in Monterrey do which was great.
