I´ve been visiting the barrio antiguo area since I first started going to Monterrey years ago and Its has changed. for the best I think. here there is a wide variety of music and scenes. from spanish pop to reggae. for heavy metal try a bar on morelos named "Ibex" Its all a heavy metal place should be. there was a 10 peso cover last time I went in, and 10 pesos a beer. but it can be higer if theres a well known band inside, and they bring them from as far as sweden. theres a couple reggae bars on Morelos and Mina. One is the "Waye" its a small place where you can have a conversation and relax some times they have a band come and play beer is 15 pesos. across the street is the "Riviera" its also a reggae bar with ska thrown in to the mix they also have live music I heard three bands in one night and theres no cover. the beer and drinks are really cheap at 10 pesos for beer and 35 pesos for mixed drinks and they even sell 32 oz bottles and the rare and elusive Indio and sol brava 40 oz which is nearly impossible to find elsewhwere, believe me I asked and was told theyre available in Mexico city. there is the "Cafe Iguana" and "Antropolis", which are very large and crowded the music was pretty good but they started playing music that caters to soccer hooligans so theres a bit of scuffles. the beer is cheap here at 10 pesos but they dont have mixed drinks. they dont have cover chargeaswell. theres all types of clubs for all tastes so find the one thats right for you. and dont forget on sundays "El Callejon Del Arte" it s the "art alley" theres all types of people selling antiques and hand made objects and art.
