“Great Wine Information”
Reviewed February 23, 2012

The proprietor, Mac, really knows his Baja wines. Stop in and get a lesson on what is so great about wines made in Mexico. Prices are reasonable also.

“Try The Wines and Olive Oils of Baja!”
Reviewed November 23, 2011

Todos Santos has a new wine merchant who specializes in the wines of Baja California. If you are not familiar with the wine growing region of Baja, this is a great way to learn more about the area and to taste the best selections from the finest vineyards. Proprietor (Mac) Sutton McCandless grew up near the California wine country and has turned his passion for wine into a business. Even though Mac prefers to represent the smaller vineyards, he makes an exception with Santo Tomas, the oldest and one of the larger wineries, dating back to 1888.
Things seem to be done a bit differently in Baja than in other wine regions. The ever-growing Northern Baja Grape valleys have an authentic “terruño” and are making their mark on the International stage with unique, cool ensembles and blends that are Old World style in their inspiration yet definitively New World style in their bold Mexican roots.
If you happen to be in Todos Santos on a Monday, every Monday night Mac hosts a Flight Night, showcasing three wines for only $140 pesos ($10)...a white, two reds or a rose. Guest restaurants are invited to provide accompanying tapas, all included.
The night I attended, the three wines served in the flight were a Santo Tomas Colombard, (Light, easy, slightly sweet White), Del Viko, (a unique blend of 35% Italian varietal Nebbiolo, 20% Spanish Genache, 20% Tempernillo, and 10% French Merlot) from the family run vineyard Victor Torres Alegre, and Mac debuted for the first time, his very own new house wine, Prologo 2010, a blend of 80% Cabernet and 20% Petit Syrah. It had a peppery spice character, and was my favorite of the three.
Wedesday nights are Big Reds nights. Expect a variety of big, Premium structured, complex reds by the glass, accompanied pairings of perfectly prepared Mexican specialties. Everything is only 12 pesos each!
La Bodega also sells olive oils made by Santo Tomas, each made from one of three different types of olives; Manzanilla, Ascolano, and Sevillano. You can also buy a blend of all three from a local Baja Norte rancher.
Hours: Tuesday-Saturday 12-7pm
Mondays and Wednesdays Tasting Nights: 5-8pm
Music performed both nights, too.
