My wife and I recently completed a two week tour of Southern Baja Sur which included stops in Cabo, Todos Santos, La Paz, and Loreto. During our time in Todos Santos, we booked two nights at the Casablanca - a choice which turned out to be the best decision and best experience of our entire trip. I have traveled extensively in over fifteen countries around the world and I can honestly say of all my stay's at Hotels and B & B's throughout the years, Casablanca rates as one of the best, if not THE best experience i've had.
Getting to the Casablanca requires navigating off the main highway down a few miles of dusty, bumpy roads. When you finally reach the property you will find an modest, unassuming property perched on a cactus strewn hillside with views of the Pacific Ocean located about a mile below. The real treat begins with the warm and friendly welcome you will receive from Inn owners Isabella & Gabrielle who make you feel welcomed and cared for from the very beginning. Accommodations consist of a detached two story building separate from their home which includes an upstairs and downstairs unit. We had the upstairs unit which was super clean, comfortable and nicely appointed with thoughtful touches such as a small library of select books, tourist maps, and information about the area.
During our first evening at the property - Isabella inquired about our preferences for coffee and tea in the morning and what time we preferred to have breakfast. When we awoke the next day, fresh coffee had already quietly been delivered to our doorstep, with a sampling of amazing homemade biscotti and shortbread cookies. When we came downstairs for breakfast, an amazing experience awaited on the outdoor veranda. Homemade granola with fresh homemade yogurt, fresh squeezed tangerine juice, fresh homemade raspberry and marmalade jams with amazing homemade scones, and a massive platter of fresh fruit of Kiwi, Pineapple, Mango, Papaya, Starfruit, fresh picked raspberries and blueberries and on and on. As we sat down, we were served a cooked caramelized banana drizzled in honey served on a banana leaf. As if that were not enough - a homemade crab enchilada with spicy mole sauce and pineapple salsa followed. Quite simply it was a feast for a King and Queen - and this beats any Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton breakfast hands down.
On day two - we took advantage of an evening cooking class offered by Isabella who opened her home to us and made us feel like old friends. I thoroughly enjoyed learning some of the finer points of South American / Mexican cuisine from her - she has clearly mastered the art of cooking. I could go on and on about the cooking and food experience - an amazing dinner and an equally fabulous breakfast the following day, but you get the point.
The combination of warm, friendly hospitality and luxurious meals was truly a highlight of our trip. Thank you Isabella and Gabrielle and we hope to see you again real soon!
