“eating gone wrong”
Reviewed July 20, 2012

So we went to go eat because somebody recommended it to us and when we arrived we asked to be seated to eat and he said " there's no room for eating drinking only " so what's the point of advertising there popularity when I was turned down with a party of 8 people. When we came all the way from California..I didn't know it was a brewery in that case stick to beer.

“Sótano Suizo is a great place watch sports, have draft beer, and eat 1/2 meter hot dogs”
Reviewed May 30, 2012

Sótano Suizo is a nicer sports bar and restaurant. Catering to what I would describe mostly as Mexican middle class professionals out to have a good time. I have only visited once and the place was packed at 6pm and we were very lucky to get a table. We were there like many other people to see the Tijuana Xolos soccer team play the Pumas to qualify for the finals in the Mexican Primer league. Prior to the game we took advantage the happy hour special on Indio and Pacificifo draft beer buy one pitcher get another free. If I remember correctly we got 2 pitchers of Indio for less than 5 USD total during happy hour.

Due to the game they were serving only a limited special event menu not including fancier dishes and the steaks that I have heard are very good. That was fine since we wanted to share a Mamut Dog which is a ½ meter long spicy sausage, which reminded me of well made Louisiana hotlinks, topped with Swiss cheese, tomato, fried onion strings, sautéed/fried yellow chilies, on a baguette roll. The service was good and competent but rather slow due to the place being filled to capacity and the vast quantities of beer being extracted from kegs. This appears to be one of the more popular places to watch live sports events in TJ. I had a great time the food was good, the beer was cold, bathrooms very clean, and the well dressed Mexican clientele were very friendly. Will this change after 5/28/12 when No Reservations Baja airs and people see this place is featured on their website but not on the show? I doubt it except there will be more tourists who discover the place via the Travel Channel website.

If you visit here a four tips that may be helpful:
1. Notice the sign that say they do not accept credit cards and pay with cash be it pesos or dollars.
2. As of 5/2012 there is a coupon on their website which is linked to their main Tripadvisor review page for 10% off food but not drinks.
3. I think it is just as easy to park in the 24 hour Plaza Rio Shopping Center since their free 2 hour parking can be full. If you park in Plaza Rio park near the round about located towards the travel agency near the Commercial Mexicana Supermercado. 10:00 pm when the parking rates basically double. The walk is say about 100 yard directly across Paseo de Heroes to the shopping center full of clubs on the other side of the street. Upon returning pay the minimal parking (FYI Parking rates basically double after 10 pm) using the automatic ticket validating machines located thorough out the plaza all accept pesos and about half of them accept up to US $5 bills. All will give change for up to $200 Mexican peso bills in pesos like an ATM. See current parking rates at the Plaza Rio site www.plazariotijuana.com.mx/estacionamiento.htm
4. Be nice to the staff and customers so they will welcome tourists since this is as of now a mostly locals place. Remember that waiters and bartenders in Mexico live off their tips so, Do tip your servers.
