The Grand Hotel may look quite stunning from the outside (those twin towers), but the inside isn't that attractive. In fact, it looks quite dark, and the adjacent interior shopping center (under the second tower) looks empty and eerie (as most establishments moved outside the main building).

The slogan that it is a good hotel for big groups is really true, as the convention rooms are pretty big and flexible, even when the attention of the staff isn't the best out there. As well, the restaurants and clubs look kind of empty, but sometimes are filled with locals that enjoy them at night.

We could say that the Grand hotel Tijuana is very good (in context with the so-so hotels of Tijuana), but that it never lived up to its "grand" expectations.

I stayed at the Grand Hotel Tijuana with 5 of my friends and had two rooms. With the AAA discount the rooms were 69$ a night for each. The hotel is a short 5 minute cab ride to the clubs on Revolution Street, and 15 minutes from the border. The rooms were average size and very clean, with the option of two double beds or one King size. The room service was great, good food and quick service. Free secured parking with cameras and guards was a definite bonus. The neighborhood around the hotel is much more upscale then the rest of TJ, there was a Carl's Jr, Papa Johns, and Smart & Final all within two blocks. I felt safe being out at night around the hotel. The hotel staff spoke English well and was very accomadating, helpfull even when a bunch of drunk teenagers (us) lost our room keys. All around this was a great experiance and I will allways stay in the Grand Hotel when I am in TJ from now on.

the good: commercial center in one of the buildings, also a movie teather, pharmacy and other amenities, I had a view of the golf course from my room (liked that); hotel restaurant was very good, specially on "Sunday brunch".
the bad: problems with water flow (poor) in the rooms (bathroom) , mainly in the mornings; the rooms looked too old (look like from the 70's); parking lot, it was not hotel exclusive, you have to make sure you gou to the front desk every day for a ticket stamp so you can prove you are a guest, it was always full due to the many events the hotel hosts.

I didn't expect much from the Grand, given its reviews here. I was pleasantly surprised, then, to find a very nice hotel, in a city not known for very nice hotels. This is the hotel, I'm told for business travelers who want to avoid the crush at the border.

Check-in was fast, efficient, and bilingual. In fact, everyone spoke enough English to help non Spanish speakers. We asked for a non smoking room, and received a spotlessly clean, odor free room, large enough for two adults, and two kids. The room had an easy chair, and a nice sized desk, as well. The bathroom was immaculate.

Bad weather and exhaustion kept us in the hotel for dinner. Service was very friendly. Steak Dinners, including sides and a salad bar, cost US$14 - $18, and were prepared correctly. The breakfast buffet the next morning was great - good service, and everything cooked to order - without the usual lines. The resaurant has two cooks for each specialty - eggs, tortilla based foods, and waffles.

Checkout was painless and fast. The hotel has free shuttle service, on demand, to the airport. I would stay here again without reserve.
