There is opera, music and theatre and an interesting local community attending, also many San Diego residents are subscribed to regular programmes. Probably the most active cultural center in Baja California.

Tijuana can be a little intimidating, especially if you haven't been there for awhile. But the area near CECUT is an oasis of calm and beauty. CECUT is a "find." It is a gem - one of the great secrets of this border city. Its architecture can rival any museum in the US. Well worth a visit.

Most people who visit Tijuana never see the attactions of this area. There is a performing arts center that has world class ballet, music, and other shows. The museum has revolving exhibits including recently a macabre display of execution equipment. The art museum is small but definitely worth a visit.

I would include this on you itinerary regardless of how many times you have visited Tijuana.

We drove down from San Diego for a day trip, left the car in the USA and walked over, it was a great day of experience, colour and sunshine... we ate some fantastic food, and had some beers in the sun, enjoyed the markets and outdoor music, did a bit of shopping... It was everything I expected, and having never been to Mexico I was glad that it looked so 'Mexican' even though I appreciate this is just for tourists!
Coming back over the border was another story though... as we approached, we saw a huge, huge queue of thousands of people, just waiting to cross, with estimated waiting times of six hours! We were stupid and hadn't factored this in... so a man with a van came out from the crowd, and said he was a tour guide who would get us over quicker, in his van,... on we hopped with some other tourists, for about 10 dollars each, half thinking we were taking our life in our hands, and half thinking, well, what do we have to lose? So we sat in the traffic for ages, and then he translated he would drive us to the less busy nearby border... at breakneck speeds! Let us off the bus so we queued in the sun for about two hours, eventually got through the border... and there he was, waiting for us, just as he said, to take us to our car!
