We loved it so much that this was our second trip to this beautiful piece of paradise. Looking forward to our next visit in 2007

Really nice resort, in the middle of the desert. Very beautiful and well laid out. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, no problems with bugs or plumbing. The beach is right out side and you can listen to the waves all night. Tons of sea shells and you can walk for miles, VERY relaxing. Dining was great, almost right on the beach and the food was good and plentiful, not 4 star quality but for the price it was great. Staff was nice and accomindating except for 1 boat captain. Message is $50 USD/Hour, a little too rich for the area.
Recommendations:
1-On your way in pick up any booze you may want, the prices at the bar are outragious, 1 day we paid $40 USD for a pitcher of margaritas, and that is even expensive for Idaho. You can pick up the mix for about $3 and the booze for about $10 and make your own. Also beers were $2.00 USD, pick up a case for $8.00 and a cheap styrofoam cooler for $2.00 and get the ice from the resort.
2-No hot tub, after a long day of fishing, would of been nice to have a nice soak with a beer.
3-Rent a car, it is $100 USD for the trip there and $100 for the trip back, and then if you decided to go into any of the little town around it is between $50-$200. Cars can be rented for about $50/day with insurance. DO NOT SPEED, the police are just looking for a reason to pull you over and then you need to pay them for the ticket.
4-Fishing sucked, but we were there in what suppose to be the off season, but ask around for the best boat captains, we went with Juan, never said two word to us and really didn't make any efforts. Went out 2nd day with another captain (forgot his name) and was really trying to get us fish, he was a lot more successful than the previous day and more fun to be around.
Overall, GREAT resort for the price, will definately go there again.

Well, what can we say, but thanks, thanks, and more thanks for such a fun stay, again, at the Ranch. It just keeps getting better each time we come. It's now like coming HOME.

Thanks to John, Jennifer, Gary, Janine, Nick, Paco, Francisco, Jorge, Joel, the drivers, the boat boys, the cooks for making the best Mexican Sashimi in the world, the ladies who clean the rooms, SANTOS and absolutely everyone else I can't remember......

While at our stay we won the "Let's Talk Hook Up Fun Tournanment" And needless to say, the fishing was FANTASTIC. We worked hard and found the fish, thanks to our amazing Captain. We caught lots of yellow tail, yellow fin tuna, big pargos, amber jack, rooster and a pompano. Yippee, our freezer is FULL.......

The best part after a great day of fishing is hanging at the bar with our fishing pals, Jim & Judy, Bob & Carole, Mike & Carol, Chris & Kim, Pete & Lolly, Carlos, Drew, Charlie (also known as the Swordfish Cowboy), Ron, Wes, the Fireman and friends, Tom & Kristi, Ted Sr. and Ted Jr., Todd, Ethan, Tracy, Neals and of course, John & Jennifer. You are all the BEST. We can't wait to do it again next year (or sooner if possible).

One special note to the folks who posted bad reviews: if you are unhappy with any little thing, go see John Ireland, he'll take good care of you. And Gary is a NICE GUY!! This is a place for the "simple at heart" and folks who love to fish!

Fishing comes first here at Leonero. Just an incredible place to come. Many species available, and the bite is best during the summer when it is VERY hot. Be prepared.
The hotel is very remote, and those of us that love it like it that way. No TV's, newspapers, etc. If you bring your cell phone and it works, please take your conversations someplace private, the rest of us want to relax.
Huge rooms with thatched roofs, large showers, and nice patios. Rooms show wear, and could use minor repairs, new sheets, etc.
Not to beat the place up, since nearly everyone is a return visitor. An incredible beach, great fishing, sparkling pool. Meals are included and dinner is served outside (weather permitting) on the patio with incredible sunrise, sunset and Sea of Cortez views.
During the winter months, many visitors just come to relax. It's a very economical vacation.

The fishing Rancho Leonero has to offer is outstanding! This should be the only reason you visit this resort. The management staff are very rude and could careless that you are spending your money on them (especialy the South African Manager). The food is fairly good, but it is Mexico so the sanitation is not the best. But most importantly make sure you bring sun screen! This was the hottest place I have ever been in my life!

The fishing was great, but the manager (I think he's a Brit or Australian) is terse and somewhat surly. If you're looking for a friendly place with approachable staff and management, this is not it. I am fluent in Spanish and got along great with Paco and the boat crews. The unhappy fellow who runs the place is to be avoided.

My stay at Rancho Leonaro was just what I was looking for in an off the beaten path type of resort. The staff was friendly and accommodating, the grounds were nicely kept and the rooms were very clean. Some of the things I really enjoyed at this resort included

1) Clean, thatch roof rooms with GREAT showers
2) An inviting pool with poolside umbrellas, hammocks and a small friendly bar for a well done Margarita
3) Beautiful sunrises and sunsets
4) Opportunity to charter boat sport fish for a variety of fish, and for a very reasonable fee (while fishing saw, dolphin, marlin, a huge whale, and a see tortoise sunbathing on top of the water). I had very successful fishing trips as did most guests
5) Beach was great for a stroll, and you could walk long distances as the beaches are public property in Mexico (so I am told)

I am not sure this is a great place to take kids for or an extended stay, outside of fishing, the pool, beachfront snorkeling and kayaking I think most younger kids would be bored. As a single adult I found it a great place to unwind, read a book, get in some fishing, swimming and thoughtless relaxation. I never missed not having a phone or TV in my room.

I gave the resort a 4 stars versus 5 mainly for the food. Because your meals are included you are at the mercy of what is being served with few if any alternatives for lunch and dinner (breakfast was a menu and was very good) While I enjoyed 90% of the meals and received healthy portions, the couple times I did not enjoy the meal left me a bit hungry and disappointed, and the staff was not willing to accommodate any alternative offerings. I think a stop at one of the grocery stores on the way out (resort is one hour from airport) for a few standby snacks would have helped with this problem. I also think the resort would be wise to make available a few simple standbys for when their meal isn't to a guests liking (something as simple as PB&J or grilled cheese sandwich would have worked, and been appreciated)

I have stayed at a number of "off the beaten path" resorts in Mexico and this place has the best charm, friendly atmosphere and staff that I have ever encountered.
