“Cabo Del Sol Desert course”

Reviewed April 3, 2014

Played with my son in March 2014. Course was in excellent shape. Great clubhouse and restaurant. Food was excellent. Would recommend this course to others. Clothing for sale in the Pro shop was a little pricey.

great course but treated like the step sibling of the Ocean course. lay out is as good, views almost as good as its higher but more inland. pace of play was slow and there were no marshalls on the back and we saw them on every other hole on the front. The only problem is with the front tees, some holes are really short ... I mean some par 4s are 180 yards or so

The Desert Course at Cabo Del Sol is a Challenging but Fair Golf Course. The fairways are generally wide from the members tees but require accurate shots from the back and next to back tees. At times accuracy is truly demanding and I recommend that you think before you pull out the big stick. Again the greens are fair but could be in better shape. Knowledge of the subtle greens requires that you play this course several times. The back nine has some terrific long par 4's and 5's and you wonder how the pros make it look so easy. Try this golf course you will not be disappointed . I have been to Cabo now for 26 consecutive years and i always enjoy playing this course.

The problem with this course is that a highway runs through it. The course is well maintained and a good layout. The pro-shop, restaurants, range and customer service are all top notch. When I play a golf course, the main deal maker for me is the course. When I travel 1000 miles for a vacation, I do not want to play a course next to a loud highway. I personally felt that the two other courses I played (Cabo Real and Palmilla) more relaxing, scenic and fun

We played the Desert course on Tuesday the 13th and it was in great shape. The front nine appeared to have been sanded recently yet the greens rolled true. This course winds it way back into the desert with Ocean views from most holes. Numerous elevation changes and several shots requiring carry over ravines and canyons make this track quite challeging. That being said most fairways are very wide allowing for errant shots and recovery.
The course offers 5 sets of tee boxes and from the tips the course plays to 7049 yards. Because the course plays above the Playa and into the Desert foothills Ocean breezes will tack on several more yards. Not uncommon to play a club in half up to 2 longer to get to your target.
Several greens are multi tiered and getting to the right level is the difference between a 2 or 3 putt. Yardage on the sprinkler covers are to the center of the green so take a little extra and get the ball at the flag.
The service at Cabo Del Sol it what sets it apart from other tracks. More than enough employees at the range ,the bar, restaurant and even a friendly cartstaff member. Carts filled with cold bottled water, chilled towels and airconditioning (kidding about that one) make this a memorable experience. Do yourself a favor , after your round dine in the clubhouse ,open 5-7 for dinner. The food is AMAZING and resonable compared to all the tourist traps. Cant wait for the Ocean course to open as the maintenance appears to be complete.
Tee times are plentiful, play a twilight round and save big $. You can reserve online and prepay. I would not recommend advance booking as it is prepaid and they have a 72 hour cancellation policy at which point they will charge whether you play or not. If you stay on the property (Hacienda Del mar or Sheraton) there is a 10$ discount and a free shuttle to and from.
